Weasel words Words used to evade or retreat from a direct or forthright statement or position.
Something is claimed in such a way as to lead the information consumer to place more reliance upon it than is really warranted, for example:
“Our product x will last up to twice as long as other leading brands!” (see also: qualifying expressions, Framing, critical thinking)
