Position

The place occupied by a thing, or in which it is put – a situation, site, or station; also, a particular set of circumstances;

and transferred in meaning to the situation one occupies metaphorically in relation to others, to facts, or to circumstances: a situation as it relates to surrounding circumstances – and by extension: one’s view, policy, opinion, or attitude on a certain question or issue, particularly contentious or controversial issues; the way in which a topic or situation is regarded; also, an official posture towards some matter.
