What ethical concerns are there in doing this? Will those who are religious claim that such cultured human brain tissue has a soul? What will animal rights people say about this particular experiment? Is this cruelty to rats? There's no theoretical reason why they couldn't provide this brain tissue with a primitive sight system, as they are already implanting computer chips to replace the retina and provide sight in some humans.
