Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A world timepiece which gives information about time or date of areas in different time zones comprises input means for inputting the area code information corresponding to the area the time or date of which is required, a code memory for storing the inputted area code information, means for counting and storing the time and date of the areas in different time zones, detection means for detecting the operation of a mode selection key, and announcing means responsive to the detection means for telling the time, the date and the area code in turn of the area corresponding to said area code information of said code memory.

Description

13~

The present invention relates to a timepiece, and more particularly, to a world timepiece which gives sequentially the time, the date, and the area code corresponding to an area code information which was inputted 5 in advance.
Conventionally, the operability of a conventional world timepiece has been difficult to master and its whole operation is rather troublesome to an operator who is not intimately familiar with its operation. Also, information 10 about time and date in a particular area can not be obtained easily nor quickly.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved world timepiece the operation of which is simple and the required information is obtained 15 easily and quickly.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a world timepiece for providing time and date information in each of a plurality of world time zones, comprising: input means for inputting an area code information corresponding to a selected 20 world time zone; code memory means for storing said input area code information; means for maintaining a current time and date for continuously sequentially counting the time and date information for each of said plurality of world time zones;
means for temporarily storing a current time and date 25 information corresponding to said area code information;
display means, for successively displaying said current time, said current date, and said area code; and means for accessing said means for temporarily storing and said code memory, arranged on said input means, wherein a first actuation of 30 said means for accessing displays said cuxrent time information, a second actuation of said means for accessing displays said current date information, and a third actuation of said means for accessing within a predetermined time period displays the input area codes so long as said means for 35 accessing remains actuated, said current time information ~;' ~3~ i4 being again displayed upon release of said means for accessing.
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given hereinbelow and 5 the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention and wherein:
FIG. 1 illustrates a block diagram of a world timepiece of an embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 illustrates a flow chart of the operation of world timepiece of the embodiment of the present invention;
and FIG. 3 shows an example of the operation and display capabilities of the world timepiece of the present invention.
FIG. 1 shows block diagram of a world timepiece as a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
A clock generator 1 supplies base clock pulses. A
counter circuit 2 comprise hour/minute counters (A) and date counters (B). Each of these counters corresponds to a time 20 zone of the world.
A central processing unit 3 (CPU) receives the information typed on a keyboard 5. A liquid crystal display 4 displays information such as time, date and an area code.
Keyboard 5 has a plurality of keys including digit-keys (0 -25 9) and a WORLD key. A timer circuit 6 counts a predeterminedperiod (in the present embodiment, preferably 7 minutes) starting whenever the WORLD key is operated. Timer circuit 6 counts based on the clock pulses generated by the clock generator 1. Flip-flop circuits 7 count and store a number 30 showing how many times the WORLD key has been actuated. A
code memory a stores the area code which is inputted. The world key operates as a mode selection key in conjunction with the operation of the area code key.
The whole operation is explained hereinafter 35 according to FIG. 2 and FIG. 3.

.~:

~?5~36~

First, an area code representing the area of interest, for example, '17' which represents New York, is inputted through digit-keys of the keyboard 5 (Sl). The area code information is stored at the code memory a, and is 5 displayed on display 4 (shown at (I) in FIG. 3). At the same time, a counter of the counter circuit 2 (the 17th counter in the example of FIG. 3) is designated and it contains the time and the date of the area corresponding to the above area code information (New York).
Then, after the WORLD key is actuated (the first operation), the key actuation is detected (S2), and timer circuit 6 starts counting. Further, flip-flop circuits 7 count "1" and this number, showing that WORLD key has been actuated once is stored therein. At the same time, the 15 content of the time counter ~ of the 17th time/date counter A,B (New York), chosen according to the area code (17) of the code memory 3 , is displayed on display 4. Thus, the time at New York is displayed as shown at (II) in FIG. 3.
Then, at step S4, it is determined whether 7 minutes 20 have passed since the la.st actuation of the WORLD key. If not, at the next step 5, the actuation of the WORLD key is confirmed. If the second actuation of the WORLD key is confirmed (S5), timer circuit 6 is reset and it starts counting again. Flip-flop circuits 7 count "2'l and this 25 number, showinc~ that WORL~ key has been actuated twice is stored therein. Now, the date counter B which contains the date in New York is chosen according to the area code (17) of the code memory 3, and the date information is displayed on display 4 as is shown in (III) in FIG. 3 (S6).
After the date information of New York is displayed, if the WORLD key (S7 and S8) is actuated again, the area code of the code memory 3 (of New York) is displayed as is shown in (IV) in FIG. 3 (S9 and S10) only while WORLD key is being pressed. When the WORLD key is released, flip-flop circuits 35 7 are reset and the time of New York is again displayed as is shown in (V) of FIG. 3.

~3~5~364 Thus, after the area code is inputted, only repeated actuation of the WORLD key is necessary to display in turn the time, the date, and the area code of the area corresponding to the inputted code.
It is an advantage of the present invention that after the area code is inputted, only repeated actuation of the WORLD key is necessary to have the time, the date, and the area code of the selected area rapidly and without mistake.
While only certain embodiments of the present 10 invention have been described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as claimed.
