Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
Side portions of a fixed support armature for the seat support first pins on which are articulated levers fixed on second pins rigid with a cushion-support armature having third pins cooperating with connecting rods articulated on fourth pins mounted in bearings rigid with the armature of the sitting portion of the seat. Hooks cooperate via fifth pins with levers and an abutment of one of these hooks causes a rotation about a vertical axis of a S-shaped lever which displaces a fork having a recessed central portion latching an assembly made by the levers, connecting rods and hooks. A
transverse pin is mounted on arms rigid with the fourth pins to release the hooks and one of these fourth pins is extended by a control handle.

Description

~ 0 7 Q 9 ~ 5 ~,. . .-FIELD OF THE INVENTION ;
The invention relates to a raislng device for the cushion of a vehicle seat.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The rear seats or full-length backseats of a vehicle are already known to be provided with sitting -~
elements each comprising two cushions J i.e. a front cushion which is mobile in height and a rear cushion which ls fixed and bears against the lower portlon of~ ~
the seat back. .

.:. . -: "., ;;
this seat or this portion of a backseat.
Such seats with two cuehions, one being fixed and the other mobile, are adapted for transportation of a ~-child aged between 3 and 10 years without having to fix, on the seat or full-length backseat, a speclal, heavy, bulky and costly seat shell.
These vertlcally moblle sltting elements, which are conventionally known, have the disadvantage that the use and lowering mechanism requlres difficult manipulations and the use of two latching members whose operation is carried out separately. hence an important 2 0 7 ~ ~ 4 5 ¦ work which does not ensure a perfect safety and whlch i5 also costly. .
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
~ An ob~ect of the present invention ls to remedy ¦ 5 these disadvantages by providlng a raising device for - ~.
¦ the mobile cushion of an auto~oblle seat whose latchlng ~-~ mechanism is operated automatically without particular ¦ manipulations, since it suffices to lift the front ~ cushion from the sitting element until this cushion will ¦ 10 come into abutment via its rear portion against the ~;
median zone of the seat back.
The return of the front cushion to its normal positlon is made by operating a handle enabling an instantaneous unlatching of the mechanism, and provides therefore, under action of resilient elements, a return to the normal position of the mobile front cuehion, reconstituting also the sltting portlon of the seat in conslderation.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordlng to the invention, small bars are provided on side portions of a fixed support armature for the seat, these small bars having a front portion for supporting fixst pins on which are articulated levers fi~ed at a front portion thereof on second pins rigid with a cushion-support armature, this cushlon-support armature having a rear portion with , , ' "' :'' ."`:,' '' ' ~''` - ~ ~' 2 0 7 ~ 9 ~

third pins cooperating with connecting rods artlculated .
on fourth pins mounted in bearings rigid with the armature of the sitting portion of the seat, then hooks . ~
having a rear portion provided with cut-outs cooperate ~ ~, s via fifth plns with levers, whereby, when these hooks , .
are pulled rearwardly towards seat lback, the cushion-support armature and the front cushiDn which is rigid therewith are brought to a ralsed position until these cut-outs of the hooks are engaged on the fourth pins, which movement causes, via an abutment of one of `
these hooks, a rotation of a S-shaped lever about a vertical axis, a rear end of the S-Qhaped lever .
displacing a fork having a recessed central portion which becomes locked by penetrating underneath a stud, and latches an assembIy made by said levers, connecting rods and hooks, these hook3 being released by a lifting operation by ~eans of a transverse pin mounted on arms .. ``-rigid with the~e fourth plns, one of theee fourth pins being extended by a control handle. ~ -Various other features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed descriptlon.
BRIEF DE~SCRIPTIOIl OF THE: DRAWINGS

Fig. 2 is a side elevation view of the seat front cushion raising device with it~ latching system ;
Fig. 3 is a plan view corresponding to Flg. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring now to the drawings, Figs 1 and 2 show an under-structure 1 of the seat into consideration, which seat can be one half of the backseat of a vehlcle. ;
The under-structure 1 comprises, on its two sldes, flanges 2 and 2a extended vertlcally and fixed to an armature 17 of the sitting element of the seat, enabllng the positioning of pivot plns 8 and 13 for connecting rods 7 and 22. ~ ;
A metal sheet 70, provided for protectlng the legs of the child when in the high positlon and for maintalning laterally the connecting rods 7, i~ made rlgid via lugs 50a, 50b, 50c, and by a known means, with the connecting rods 7.
Moreover, the front cushion 4, sbown ' schematically in phantom Iines, bears at its lower portion on a cushion-support armature 5.
The cushion-support armature 5 maintains, at its front lower portion, two p1ns 6 used as articulation .. -;
points for levers 7 articulated at their rear portion on pins 8 rigid with the flanges 2. .' The levers 7 are each connected by pins 9 provided between the pins 6 and 7 onto hooks 10 the rear ends lOa of which are wider and each formed with a cut-out 11 adapted for belng engaged on pins 13 rigid with a bearing member 14 supported by the vertlcally extendlng rear portion 2a of the armature 17 of the sitting element of the seat. ;~
The pins 13 are rigid with arms 18 carrying a transverse pln 20. One of the pins 13 extends in 13a into a control handle the purpose of which will be :
explained hereafter. ~ ~:
~inally, the cushion carrying armature 5 has a :~
rear portion 5a provided with pins 21 maintaining the front end of connecting rods 22 articulated on the pins 13.
It should al60 be noted that the hooks 10 are j .
normally maintained in their lower position by springs 23 rigidly connected, on the one hand, to the flanges 2 vla fasteners 24, and, on the other hand, to hooks 10 via fasteners 25.
The armature 17 of the sitting element of the seat is provided with a substantially S-shaped ~ ;
horizontal lever 28, the front portlon 29 of which is extending vertically.

.. :~ .: : .

- ,, ., -2 ~ 7 ~

This lever 28 is articulated on a pin 30 rigid ;~
with the armature 17 of the sitting element of the seat ~ `.i.
and has its rear end 28a provlded w:ith a wlndow 31 adapted for cooperating with a pin 32 rigid with a fork 33, the central recessed portion 33a of which cooperates with a stud 35 rigid with the under-structure 1 of the vehicle.
Actually (see Fig. 2), when the front cushion 4 is in the high position (shown in phantom lines in ~.
Fig. 2), the levers 7 are substantially vertical as well as the connecting rods 22 since the hooks 10 are in . .
engagement vla thelr cuts-outs 11 on the pins 13.
The rearward movement of the hooks lO haR caused `~
the pivotment of the lever 28 in the clockwise dlrectlon ~ .
about the pin 30 against the return action of the spring 30a. In fact, one of the hooks 10 comes in abutment, when being moved rearwardly, on a front portion 29 of the lever 28. 1.~
Thls movement has caused the fork 33 to move ;:
frontwardly, and the recessed central portion 33a is .
then locked underneath the stud 35. It should be noted `;~
that guides 60 whlch sllde on the connecting rods 22 ., ~
facilltate a guiding of the hooks 10 with which they are rigidly connected.

V'~
`: :
~ .
~ .

2 0 7 ~

Therefore, the front portion 4 of the cushion is -~
perfectly latched in the ralsed positlon and a child can thus slt on this portion of the seat, as shown in ~ ~ ~
Fig. 1, while being maintalned on the cushlon h when the ~ -vehicle is running, by havlng hls back bearing on the `~
seat back 50, his head bearing on the head-rest 51. ~¦
A safety belt 52, which normally equips the ~eat, is used without special ad~ustment. ~-When the chlld has been taken out from the vehlcle and when lt is desired to put the front cushion 4 back ln position, it suffices to operate the control handle 13a so as to dlsengage the cut-outs 11 of the hooks 10 which then move away from the plns 13.
The springs 23 return all the members 7, 10, 22 lnto their position of origln. The cushion h will therefore resume lts position, and the lever 28, under -~
the actlon of the epring 30a which returns to its first position ~see Fig. 3), will disengage the fork 33 from the stud 35.
.
~hus, a slngle operation enables, at the ;~
beginning, to latch perfectly the front cushion 4 in the raised position and a single operation of the control - -handle 13a enables to bring the front cusbion 4 back to -~ -its normal positlon ~ ~-~, }~
