Abstract

An oblong acetabular cup (40) which includes a cavity (13) for receiving a bearing element (44) is provided. The plane (56) of the opening into the cavity (13) is skewed relative to the prosthesis' longitudinal plane (54) so as to achieve adduction correction, anteversion correction, or both adduction and anteversion correction. In certain preferred embodiments, the prosthesis (40) is constructed from two components (62, 64 or 102, 104) which can be oriented with respect to one another to achieve different directions and amounts of anteversion correction. In some embodiments, the two components (62, 64) form a cusp (70) in the outside surface of the prosthesis (40). Surgical instruments (94) and surgical methods for implanting the prostheses (40) are disclosed.
