Abstract
The needles (1) of a knitting machine are continuously monitored, during operation of the machine, by an optical head (6) comprising a light source (23) and an electro-optical receiver which receives the light beam after that the latter has crossed the area (24) of passage of the needles (1). The output signals from the receiver are sent to an electronic control unit (27).
