Abstract

A transparent cleansing bar composition comprising from about 10 to 45 weight % of a synthetic detergent with a major portion of the detergent being a sulfated ethoxylated long chain alkyl alcohol of the formula R-(OCH2CH2)n-O-SO3X wherein R is an alkyl group having from 12-16 carbon atoms, N is 2 or 3, and X is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal; and from about 10 to 30 weight % of a polyhydric alcohol of the formula H(OCH2CH2)n OH wherein n has an average value of 6 to 16; from about 15 to about 30 weight % of a water soluble soap, and wherein the ratio of the soap to the synthetic detergent ranges from about 1:1 to about 1:2; from about 5 to about 20 weight % of a fatty acid alkanolamide; from 0 to about 15 weight % of an alkyl sarcosinic acid of formula (I), where R is alkyl having to 16 carbon atoms; and from 0 to about 10 weight % of a nonionic alkyl polyglycoside of formula (II), X is greater than 1 and less than 2 with the composition having a pH of not less than about 7.5.
