Abstract

An automatic mirror rotation assembly for a vehicle (20) including a tractor (24) and semi-detached trailer (22) is provided. An elongated arm (50) supporting a rotatable wheel (58) attaches to a support (40) mounted at a selected position on the tractor (24) chassis.
The arm (50) is pivoted upward until the wheel (58) contacts the underside of the trailer (22), and is kept engaged with substantially constant pressure. As the vehicle turns, the rotation of the trailer (22) with respect to the tractor (24) is measured by counting rotations or partial rotations of the wheel (58) against the underside surface of the trailer (22). A corresponding degree of passenger-side rear view minor is calculated, and a motor automatically rotates the mirror. A feedback device (200) measures the actual rotation of the mirror and feeds that information back to the assembly.
