Abstract

A lightweight, inexpensive folding chair (10) may have a seat (18) with an interference fit support bracket (74,76).
The seat may have a seat member (72) constructed of a lightweight material, such as a blow-molded plastic, that is generally supported by two such support brackets (74,76). The support brackets (74,76) may be affixed to the seat member (72) by sliding the seat member into interference engagement with the support brackets (74,76). The seat member is supported against bending in use to inhibit deformation and failure. The support brackets may have an enclosing shape so that the seat member is unable to move laterally or transversely out of engagement with the support brackets. The support brackets may have lips extending into the seat member to provide the enclosing shape. The support brackets may also have an arcuate shape to strengthen the support brackets against bending.
