Abstract

A drill bit (10) has a chuck engaging shank portion having a geometric cross-sectional shape with a plurality of projections (14) formed on at least a part of at least one of surfaces (12). The projections (14) vary in height across the surface (12) and engage an inner surface of a chuck to prevent slippage of the bit (10) in the chuck.
