Abstract

The present invention relates to certain weight adjustment members that can be used in connection with iron-type golf clubs. The weight adjustment members of the present invention comprise a relatively uniform and/or symmetrically configured width.
In addition, the members comprise a substantially linear back-side. The weight adjustment members of the present invention, therefore, provide a consistent level of performance across the members and, moreover, can be mass produced using more simplified molds when compared to other members known in the art. Still further, the present invention provides iron-type golf heads and golf clubs that comprise the weight adjustment members of the present invention.

Claims (13)

1. A weight adjustment member adapted for an iron-type golf club head, wherein said weight adjustment member comprises (i) a substantially linear back-side and (ii) a relatively uniform thickness, and wherein said weight adjustment member is capable of being disposed within a cavity in a back-side of said golf club head.
2. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said cavity has a primary longitudinal axis which is angled upward from a sole axis of said golf club head, and wherein an exterior surface of said weight adjustment member is approximately adjacent to the back-side of said golf club head when said weight adjustment member is disposed within said cavity.
3. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said cavity has a primary longitudinal axis which is angled upward from a sole axis of said golf club head, and wherein an exterior surface of said weight adjustment member is approximately an equal distance from the back-side of said golf club head across the entire weight adjustment member when said weight adjustment member is disposed within said cavity.
4. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein said cavity is a secondary cavity located within a primary cavity.
5. The weight adjustment member of claim 4, wherein said primary cavity is defined by a perimeter weighting element.
6. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, wherein an exterior surface of said weight adjustment member is sloped from its top portion to its bottom portion.
7. The weight adjustment member of claim 1, further comprising at least one groove, and wherein said groove is capable of collecting excess adhesive when said weight adjustment member is secured within said cavity.
8. A weight adjustment member adapted for an iron-type golf club head, wherein said weight adjustment member comprises (i) a substantially linear back-side and (ii) a symmetrically configured variable thickness in relation to the center of said weight adjustment member, and wherein said weight adjustment member is capable of being disposed within a cavity in the back-side of said golf club head.
9. The weight adjustment member of claim 8, wherein said cavity has a primary longitudinal axis which is angled upward from a sole axis of said golf club head, wherein an exterior surface of said weight adjustment member is approximately symmetrically aligned with the back-side of said golf club head when said weight adjustment member is disposed within said cavity.
10. An iron-type golf club head, which comprises at least one cavity positioned an approximately equal distance from a front side of said club head along a primary longitudinal axis of said cavity, and wherein said cavity is adapted to receive a weight adjustment member.
11. An iron-type golf club head comprising:
a front-side arranged for impact with a golf ball;
a back-side with a cavity formed therein, said cavity having a primary longitudinal axis which is angled upward from a sole axis of said golf club head; and a weight adjustment member disposed in said cavity, said weight adjustment having a substantially linear back side.
12. The iron-type golf club head of claim 11, wherein an exterior surface of said weight adjustment member is sloped from its top portion to its bottom portion.
13. The iron-type golf club head of claim 11, further comprising at least one groove, and wherein said groove is capable of collecting excess adhesive when said weight adjustment member is secured within said cavity.
