Abstract

A product display system includes a support (12), at least one illumination source (14) positioned substantially above the support and operable to illuminate the support, and a plurality of product packages (18) positioned on the support. The packages may have at least one tab (20) extending generally downwardly from the front wall (18a) or opposite side walls (18c). The tab angles or tilts the package relative to the support such that the package is tilted toward the illumination source. The packages are tilted such that the front walls of the tilted packages face at least partially toward the illumination source to provide enhanced illumination of the front walls of the tilted packages. The plurality of packages may be arranged in rows on a shelf, with the rows of packages being nested together.

Claims (40)

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A product display system for displaying product packages, said product display system comprising:
at least one generally horizontal support;
at least one illumination source positioned substantially above said generally horizontal support and operable to illuminate said support; and a plurality of tilted product packages positioned on said support, said tilted packages being tilted such that a front face of at least some of said tilted packages faces at least partially toward said illumination source to provide enhanced illumination of said front face of said at least some of said tilted packages.
2. The display system of claim 1, wherein said tilted packages comprise tilted boxes having said front face, a rear wall opposite said front face, opposite side walls, an openable top and a bottom opposite said top.
3. The display system of claim 2, wherein said tilted boxes include at least one tab extending generally downwardly from one of said front face and said opposite side walls, said at least one tab raising said front face of said tilted box upward above the support such that said tilted box is tilted.
4. The display system of claim 3, wherein said plurality of tilted boxes are arranged in rows on said support, with the rows of said tilted boxes being nested together with said front faces of a rearward row of said tilted boxes being generally adjacent to said rear walls of a forward row of said tilted boxes.
5. The display system of claim 3, wherein at least one upper tilted box is stacked on top of at least one lower tilted box, said at least one tab of said upper tilted box extending downward over said front face of said lower tilted box to limit rearward movement of said upper tilted box relative to said lower tilted box.
6. The display system of claim 1, wherein said tilted packages include at least one tab extending generally downwardly from a forward portion of said package, said at least one tab raising said front face of said tilted package upward above the support such that said tilted package is tilted.
7. The display system of claim 6, wherein said at least one tab includes at least one slot or perforated segment extending laterally along a portion of said tab, said slot or perforated segment defining a tab extension, said tab extension being selectively foldable relative to the rest of said tab to provide additional raising of said front face.
The display system of claim 6, wherein said at least one tab is removably attached to said tilted package.
9. The display system of claim 1 including at least one elevated support positioned above said at least one generally horizontal support, said at least one elevated support supporting a plurality of downwardly tilted product packages, said downwardly tilted product packages on said at least one elevated support being tilted such that a front face of at least some of said downwardly tilted product packages face outwardly from said elevated support and at least partially downward toward a person viewing said product packages.
10. The display system of claim 1, wherein each of said tilted packages includes a rear tab extending and rearwardly from a lower end of a rear wall of said tilted package.
11. The display system of claim 10, wherein said rear tab includes an alignment tab extending generally upward therefrom and said tilted package includes an alignment notch for receiving said alignment tab when said tilted packages are nested together on said support.
12. The display system of claim 1, wherein said tilted packages receive sealed containers therein, said sealed containers containing the product.
13. The display system of claim 12, wherein said sealed containers contain one of toothpaste, cookies, crackers, cereal and cooking mixes.
14. The display system of claim 1, wherein said front face has a picture thereon and text indicative of the product contained therein, said tilted package providing enhanced visibility of said picture and said text when said tilted package is tilted at least partially toward said illumination source.
15. The display system of claim 1, wherein said generally horizontal support comprises a support shelf.
16. The display system of claim 15 including an angled package support positioned on said support shelf, said angled package support having at least one angled support surface that is angled relative to said support shelf, said at least one angled support surface supporting at least one package in a tilted orientation.
17. The display system of claim 16, wherein said angled package support includes an angled stop surface extending generally normal to said angled support surface to limit downward movement of said at least one package along said angled support surface.
18. The display system of claim 1, wherein said generally horizontal support comprises a support arm that is received through an aperture in said tilted package, said tilted package including a tab that biases said tilted package toward a tilted orientation when said aperture receives said support arm.
19. A method of displaying product packages at a store, said method comprising:
providing at least one generally horizontal support;
providing at least one illumination source substantially above said generally horizontal support and operable to illuminate said support;
positioning a plurality of tilted product packages on said support; and arranging said plurality of tilted packages on said support such that said tilted packages are tilted, said tilted packages being tilted such that a front face of at least some of said tilted packages faces at least partially toward said illumination source to provide enhanced illumination of said front face.
20. The method of claim 19, wherein said tilted packages comprise tilted boxes having said front face, a rear wall opposite said front wall, opposite side walls, an openable top and a bottom opposite said top.
21. The method of claim 20, wherein each of said tilted boxes includes at least one tab extending generally downwardly from one of said front face and said opposite side walls, said at least one tab raising said front face of said tilted box upward above the shelf.
22. The method of claim 21, wherein arranging said plurality of tilted packages comprises arranging said plurality of tilted boxes in rows on said support surface, with the rows of packages being nested together with said front faces of a rearward row of tilted boxes being generally adjacent to said rear walls of a forward row of tilted boxes.
23. The method of claim 19, wherein each of said tilted packages includes at least one tab extending generally downwardly therefrom, said at least one tab raising said front face of said tilted package upward above the shelf.
24. The method of claim 23, wherein said at least one tab is initially folded along said bottom of said tilted package, said method including unfolding said at least one tab so that said at least one tab extends generally downwardly from said tilted package.
25. The method of claim 23, wherein said at least one tab is removably attached to said tilted package, said method including removing said at least one tab.
26. The method of claim 23, wherein arranging said plurality of tilted packages includes stacking at least one upper package on top of at least one lower package, said at least one tab of said upper package engaging said front face of said lower package to limit rearward movement of said upper package relative to said lower package when stacked thereon.
27. The method of claim 19, wherein each of said tilted packages includes at least one rear tab extending generally horizontally and rearwardly from a lower end of a rear wall of said tilted package.
28. The method of claim 27, wherein said rear tabs of said tilted packages include alignment tabs extending generally upward therefrom and said tilted packages include alignment notches for receiving said alignment tabs when said tilted packages are nested together on said support.
29. The method of claim 19, wherein said tilted packages receive sealed pouches therein, said sealed pouches containing the product.
30. The method of claim 29, wherein said sealed pouches contain one of toothpaste, cookies, crackers, cereal, and cooking mixes.
31. The method of claim 19, wherein said front face has a picture thereon and text indicative of the product contained therein, said tilted package providing enhanced visibility of said picture and said text when said tilted package is tilted at least partially toward said illumination source.
32. The method of claim 19 including providing an angled package support on said support, said angled package support having at least one angled support surface that is angled relative to said support, wherein positioning a plurality of tilted product packages comprises positioning a plurality of tilted product packages at said at least one angled support surface.
33. The method of claim 19, wherein positioning a plurality of tilted product packages on said support comprises inserting a support arm through an aperture in each of said tilted packages.
34. The method of claim 33, wherein said tilted packages include a biasing element at said aperture, said biasing element engaging said support arm to cause said tilted package to tilt relative to said support arm when said support arm is inserted through said aperture.
35. A product package for containing a product, said package being positioned on a support in a store, said product package comprising:
a front wall, a rear wall and opposite side walls, said package having an openable top and a bottom opposite said top;
a tab extending generally downwardly from said front wall, said tab raising said front wall of said package upward above the support such that said package is tilted, said tab defining an alignment notch; and a rearward support extending generally horizontally and rearwardly from a lower end of said rear wall, said rearward support including an alignment tab extending generally upward therefrom, said alignment notch being configured to receive said alignment tab when two of said packages are nested together on the support.
36. The product package of claim 35, wherein multiple packages are arranged on the shelf and generally nested together, such that two or more packages are arranged with said front wall of a rear one of said packages being adjacent to and generally abutting said rear wall of a front one of said packages, said alignment tab of said front package being received in said alignment notch of said rear package.
37. The product package of claim 35, wherein said package is positioned generally beneath an overhead illumination source, said front wall providing enhanced reflection of light off of said front wall when said package is tilted on the support.
38. The product package of claim 35, wherein said package is reversible such that said rear wall faces outwardly and is tilted downwardly via the tilting of said package.
39. The product package of claim 35, wherein said tab includes at least one slot or perforated segment extending laterally along a portion of said tab, said at least one slot or perforated segment defining a tab extension, said tab extension being selectively foldable relative to the rest of said tab to provide additional raising of said front wall.
40. The product package of claim 35, wherein said tab is removably attached to said front wall.
