Abstract
A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals comprising: accepting an input clock (510) at a frequency that corresponds to the desire output frequency; independently amplifying (562) baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency;
independently amplifying (564) baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency; summing (572) the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired waveform on the desired frequency.

Claims (24)
1. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) independently amplifying baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency;
3) independently amplifying baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency; and
4) summing the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired waveform on the desired output frequency.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein step 4) is achieved by direct coupling of the output stages.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
4. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) independently non-linearly amplifying baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency;
3) independently non-linearly amplifying baseband quadrature envelop and phase (Q vector) information at the desired output frequency; and 4) summing the non-linearly amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein step 4) is achieved by direct coupling of the output stages.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
4. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) independently non-linearly amplifying baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope and phase information at the desired output frequency;
3) independently non-linearly amplifying baseband quadrature envelop and phase (Q vector) information at the desired output frequency; and 4) summing the non-linearly amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
5. The method of claim 4, wherein step 4) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
6. The method of claim 4, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
7. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) controlling the phase relationship between two or more non-linear signals to amplify the baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information;
3) controlling the phase relationship between two or more non-linear signals to amplify the baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information; and 4) summing the non-linear amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) controlling the phase relationship between two or more non-linear signals to amplify the baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information;
3) controlling the phase relationship between two or more non-linear signals to amplify the baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information; and 4) summing the non-linear amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
8. The method of claim 7, wherein step 4) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
9. The method of claim 7, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
10. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) controlling the phase relationship between two or more signals to amplify the baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information;
3) controlling the phase relationship between two or more signals to amplify the baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information; and 4) summing the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) controlling the phase relationship between two or more signals to amplify the baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information;
3) controlling the phase relationship between two or more signals to amplify the baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information; and 4) summing the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information to produce the desired linear waveform on the desired output frequency.
11. The method of claim 10, wherein step 4) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
12. The method of claim 10, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
13. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) independently amplifying baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information at the desired output frequency;
3) independently amplifying baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information at the desired output frequency; and 4) summing the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information orthogonally to produce the desired waveform on the desired frequency.
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) independently amplifying baseband in-phase (I vector) envelope information at the desired output frequency;
3) independently amplifying baseband quadrature (Q vector) envelope information at the desired output frequency; and 4) summing the amplified baseband in-phase and quadrature information orthogonally to produce the desired waveform on the desired frequency.
14. The method of claim 13, wherein step 4) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
15. The method of claim 13, wherein steps 2)-4) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
16. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) normalizing in-phase and quadrature baseband signals to determine a relative phase angle;
3) determining the magnitude of in-phase and quadrature baseband signals;
4) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
5) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
and 6) processing the relative phase angle of step 2) and magnitude information of step 3) by summing the amplified two or more substantially constant envelope signals to generate the desired waveform.
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) normalizing in-phase and quadrature baseband signals to determine a relative phase angle;
3) determining the magnitude of in-phase and quadrature baseband signals;
4) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
5) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
and 6) processing the relative phase angle of step 2) and magnitude information of step 3) by summing the amplified two or more substantially constant envelope signals to generate the desired waveform.
17. The method of claim 16, wherein step 6) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
18. The method of claim 16, wherein steps 5) and 6) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
19. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
2) accepting in-phase and quadrature baseband information;
3) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals derived from the information in step 2);
4) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
and 5) summing the amplified two or more substantially constant envelope signals to generate the desired waveform.

3) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals derived from the information in step 2);
4) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;

20. The method of claim 19, wherein step 5) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
21. The method of claim 19, wherein steps 4) and 5) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
22. A method of amplifying and frequency up-converting baseband signals, comprising:
1) receiving a radio frequency carrier signal;
2) demodulating the radio frequency carrier signal to produce in-phase and quadrature baseband information;
3) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
4) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals derived from the information in step 2);
5) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
and 6) summing the amplified two or more substantially constant envelope signals to generate the desired waveform.
1) receiving a radio frequency carrier signal;
2) demodulating the radio frequency carrier signal to produce in-phase and quadrature baseband information;
3) accepting an input clock at a frequency that corresponds to the desired output frequency;
4) generating two or more substantially constant envelope signals derived from the information in step 2);
5) amplifying the two or more substantially constant envelope signals;
and 6) summing the amplified two or more substantially constant envelope signals to generate the desired waveform.
23. The method of claim 22, wherein step 6) is achieved via direct coupling of the output stages.
24. The method of claim 22, wherein steps 5) and 6) are achieved using a multiple input single output amplifier.
