Abstract
A test strip for measuring a signal of interest in a biological fluid when the test strip is mated to an appropriate test meter, wherein the test strip and the test meter include structures to verify the integrity of the test strip traces, to measure the parasitic resistance of the test strip traces, and to provide compensation in the voltage applied to the test strip to account for parasitic resistive losses in the test strip traces. In addition, conductive traces are positioned to ensure structural interrogation of all electrodes and traces present upon the test strip.
Claims (10)
1. An electrochemical test strip powered by a power source comprising:
a first measurement electrode (814a), and a first conductive trace (826) operatively coupled to the first measurement electrode, wherein the distance between at least one point on the first conductive trace and a contact zone (22) for contacting the power source is greater than or equal to the distance between any point on said first measurement electrode and the contact zone (22) for contacting the power source.

2. The test strip of claim 1, further comprising:
a second measurement electrode (216a), and a second conductive trace (224) operatively coupled to the second measurement electrode; wherein the distance between at least one point on the second conductive trace and the contact zone (22) for contacting the power source is greater than or equal to the distance between any point on said second measurement electrode and the contact zone (22) for contacting the power source.

3. The test strip of claim 1 wherein said first measurement electrode comprises a plurality of first fingers.
4. The test strip of claim 2 wherein said second measurement electrode comprises a plurality of second fingers.
5. The test strip of claim 2, further comprising a reagent disposed on said first fingers and operative to create an electrical potential in a fluid sample that is indicative of a desired fluid quality to be measured by the test strip.
6. The test strip of claim 3, further comprising a reagent disposed on said second fingers and operative to create an electrical potential in a fluid sample that is indicative of a desired fluid quality to be measured by the test strip.
7. The test strip of claim 1, wherein the at least one point on the first conductive trace is a point (1206) where the first conductive trace intersects the first measurement electrode.
8. The test strip of claim 2, wherein the at least one point on the second conductive trace is a point (1208) where the second conductive trace intersects the second measurement electrode.
9. An electrochemical test strip powered by a power source comprising a working electrode (814a); and a working sense line (826) operatively coupled to the working electrode, said working sense line intersects the working electrode in a point (1206), wherein the distance between said point (1206) and a contact zone (22) for contacting the power source on the test strip is greater than or equal to the distance between any point on the portion of the working electrode and the contact zone (22).
10. The test strip of claim 8, further comprising:
a counter electrode (216a); and a counter sense line (224) operatively coupled to the counter electrode;
Said counter sense line intersects the counter electrode in a point (1208), wherein the distance between said point (1208) and a contact zone(22) on the test strip is greater than or equal to the distance between any point on the portion of the counter electrode and the contact zone.
