Abstract

A tank cap, comprising a cap body (20) fitted to a filler tube, a cap shell (22) connected to the upper part of the cap body, and a packing (23) installed on the cap body (20) and fitted to the filler tube. (I) In on type of the tank cap, a fuel tank, the cap shell, and the packing (23) are formed conductive, and an elastic contact piece (38) in slidable contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cap shell (22) is projectedly installed on the packing (23). (II) In the other type of the tank cap, a ratchet mechanism (35) is interposed between the cap shell (22) and the cap body (20) to connect them to each other and so that a cap knob (19) can be axially moved relative to the cap body (20) between a pressing releasing position and a pressing position, and an engagement means (40, 41) is installed to directly couple the cap knob (19) to the cap body (20) in the rotating direction when the cap knob (19) is moved to the pressing position. Thus, static electricity charged on a worker can be released to the fuel tank by a simple structure.

Claims (9)

  1. [1] A tank cap comprising: a synthetic-resin cap body (20) mounted on a fuel supply port cylinder (18) of a conductive fuel tank (T) ;
    a conductive cap shell (22) coupled to an upper part of the cap body (20) and grabbed by an operator; and a gasket (23) provided in the cap body (20) and in close contact with a sealing surface (18a) formed at an upper end of the fuel supply port cylinder (18), characterized in that the gasket (23) is conductive and in elastic contact with the cap shell (22).
  2. [2] The tank cap according to claim 1, wherein a threaded portion (24) threadably fitted into the fuel supply port cylinder (18) is formed on the cap body (20), and the cap body (20) and the cap shell (22) are linked to be mutually rotatable; a ratchet mechanism (35) is mounted between the cap shell(22) and the cap body (20), the mechanism idling when a rotation torque in a direction (A) to tighten the cap shell (22) with respect to the threaded portion (24) exceeds a predetermined value; and an elastic contact piece (38) elastically slidably contacting an inner peripheral surface of a cylindrical peripheral wall (22a) of the cap shell (22) is integrally projectingly provided on an outer periphery of the gasket (23).
  3. [3] The tank cap according to claim 2, wherein a plurality of slip-preventing bulging portions (30) bulging outward and arranged with equal pitches are formed on the cylindrical peripheral wall (22a) of the cap shell (22); and the elastic contact piece (38) of the gasket (23) is arranged in a plural number with pitches different from the pitches of the bulging portions (30) so that at least one of the elastic contact pieces (38) is constantly in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical peripheral wall (22a) of the cap shell (22) except portions corresponding to the bulging portions (30).
  4. [4] The tank cap according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the gasket (23) comprises an annular lower lip (23a) in close contact with the sealing surface (18a), an annular upper lip (23b) arranged above the lower lip (23a), and a connection (23c) which integrally connects inner peripheral end portions of the two lips (23a, 23b) and which is attached to an annular mounting groove (25) formed on an outer peripheral surface of the cap body (20); and the elastic contact pieces (38) project from a periphery of one of the lips (23a, 23b).
  5. [5] The tank cap according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the cap shell (22) is made of metal.
  6. [6] A tank cap comprising: a cap body (20) including a threaded portion (24) threadably fitted into a fuel supply port cylinder (18) of a fuel tank (T); a cap knob (19) rotatably linked to the cap body (20) and grabbed by an operator; a ratchet mechanism (35) arranged to provide linkage between the cap knob (19) and the cap body (20) in a rotational direction, and idling the cap knob (19) when a rotation torque in a direction (A) to tighten the cap knob (19) with respect to the cap body (20) exceeds a predetermined value; and a gasket (23) provided in the cap body (20) and in close contact with a sealing surface (18a) formed at an upper end of the fuel supply port cylinder (18), characterized in that the cap knob (19) is linked to the cap body (20) so that the cap knob (19) can move in an axial direction between a pressurizing position (P) and a pressurizing release position (N) with respect to the cap body (20); and urging means (20c) and engaging means (40, 41) are provided between the cap knob (19) and the cap body (20), the urging means (20c) urging the cap knob (19) in a direction of the pressurizing release position (N), and the engaging means (40, 41) being engaged to directly link together the cap knob (19) and the cap body (20) in the rotational direction when the cap knob (19) is moved to the pressurizing position (P) against an urging force of the urging means (20c).
  7. [7] The tank cap according to claim 6, wherein the cap body (20) and the cap knob (19) are respectively provided with a base portion (20b) including an annular connecting groove (27) on its peripheral surface and a connecting claw (28) rotatably and axially movably engaged with the connecting groove (27), in order to provide connection between the cap body (20) and the cap knob (19) so that they can be rotated relative to each other and the cap knob (19) can move between the pressurizing position (P) and the pressurizing release position (N) with respect the cap body (20); and a flange (20c) opposed to an axial end surface of the connecting claw (28) is formed on the cap body (20), and a concavity (41) and a projection (40) are formed on opposed surfaces of the connecting claw (28) and the flange (20c), the concavity (41) and the projection (40) constituting the engaging means while engaging with and disengaging from each other according to movement of the cap knob (19) between the pressurizing position (P) and the pressurizing release position (N).
  8. [8] The tank cap according to claim 7, wherein each of the concavity (41) and the projections (40) is provided in a plural number; the concavities (41) and the projection (40) are arranged to face each other so that some of them are constantly engageable while others are non-engageable;

    and the urging means is established by giving the flange (20c) an elasticity for urging the cap knob (19) toward the pressurizing release position (N) via the projections (40) which are not engaged with the concavities (41).
  9. [9] The tank cap according to claim 7 or 8, wherein a top surface of an annular gasket mounting groove (25) formed in the cap body (20) so as to mount therein the gasket (23) comprises a lower surface of the flange (20c).
