Abstract

The present invention provides a barbecue grill assembly 10 with a cooking chamber 12 having a cover 16 and a firebox 18 with a burner element 111. The firebox 18 is supported by a frame assembly 14 including a first frame member 60 and a second frame member 62. At least one shelf member 22 is secured to the frame assembly 14 along a hinge line 26. The shelf member 22 is rotatable about the hinge line 26 between a first position 22a, wherein the shelf member is positioned outside the cooking chamber 12 and a second position 22b, wherein at least a portion of the shelf member 22 is positioned within the cooking chamber 12. The first and second frame members 60, 62 being connected by the combination of at least one cross member 70 secured between upper portions of the frame members 60, 62 and securement of the firebox 18 to the first and second frame members 60, 62 below the upper portions, without the need for additional cross members 70.

Claims (10)

1. A barbecue grill assembly, comprising:

a cooking chamber having a firebox with a burner element;

a frame assembly having a first frame member and a second frame member cooperating to provide support for the firebox, wherein each said first and second frame member has an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the firebox is secured to said first and second frame members below said upper portions, and wherein the lower portion of each said frame assembly has a leg region; and at least one cross member being secured to the upper portion of each said frame member to connect the first and second frame members in a spaced relationship, whereby said frame members are secured in the spaced relationship by combination of said cross member connection and by securement of the firebox to the first and second frame members, without the need for cross members between the first and second frame members at the leg region.
2. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 1, further comprising at least two cross members secured to the upper portion of the frame members positioned at opposed sides of the firebox.
3. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 1, wherein said at least one cross member provides a handle of the grill assembly.
4. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 1, wherein each said first and second frame member has a generally X-shaped configuration, wherein the upper portion of the frame members extending toward an upper edge of the firebox, the lower portion of the frame members extending downward from the firebox and having a lower leg region, and said upper portion and lower portion of the frame members being separated by a central body region positioned adjacent a lower region of the firebox.
5. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 4, wherein said first and second frame members are secured to the firebox at said central body region by attachment of the frame members to the firebox with through at least one mounting member.
6. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 5, wherein the mounting member is a metal bracket that depends from a lower region of the firebox.
7. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 1, further comprising a shelf member being attached along a hinge line between the first and second frame members, the shelf member rotatable between a first position outside the cooking chamber to a second position within the cooking chamber.
8. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 7, wherein said shelf member has at least one engagement surface that contacts a portion of the firebox when the shelf member is in said second position.
9. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 7, wherein said shelf member being cooperatively dimensioned with the frame structure to provide a void region, said void region being positioned between the shelf member and the firebox when said shelf member is in the first position, said void region exposing a handle of the grill when the shelf member is in the second position.
10. The barbecue grill assembly of claim 9, wherein a lower surface of the shelf member engages an upper surface of the handle when said shelf member is in the first position.
