Abstract
An AV Clip generated by multiplexing video and graphics streams is recorded on a BD-ROM. The graphics stream is a sequence of PES packets. The PES packets include ODSs (Object Definition Segments) carrying graphics data and PCSs (Presentation Control Segments) carrying control information. A PCS indicates that graphics data in a preceding ODS in the arrangement is to be displayed at a predetermined time in a state of being overlaid on the video stream. The PCS and the preceding ODS belong to different DSs, and the graphics data in the preceding ODS may be non-referenced graphics data that is not referenced by a PCS which belongs to the same DS as the preceding ODS.
Claims (9)
1. A recording medium used for storing data, comprising:
a digital stream generated by multiplexing a video stream and a graphics stream, wherein:
the graphics stream is a sequence of a plurality of packets which include a packet containing graphics data, a packet containing palette data, and a packet containing control data;
the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value; and the control data is information indicating that a display color of the graphics data contained in a preceding packet in the sequence is to be color-converted at a predetermined time, and includes a reference value showing the palette data to be used for the color conversion.

each of the plurality of packets belongs to any of a plurality of display sets which are each used for producing a graphics display; and the graphics data and the palette data belong to a display set different from the control data.

3. The recording medium of claim 2, wherein:
the plurality of display sets include an Epoch Start display set that includes the graphics data, the palette data, and window definition data for defining an area in which the graphics data is to be rendered;
the window definition data specifies a position, a height, and a width of a window in a plane memory for overlaying with a moving picture; and the control data indicates that the graphics data is to be positioned within the window.

4. A reproduction apparatus for reproducing a digital stream generated by multiplexing a video stream and a graphics stream, comprising:
a video decoder operable to decode the video stream to generate a moving picture;
a graphics decoder operable to decode the graphics stream to generate graphics; and a lookup table unit, wherein:
the graphics stream is a sequence of a plurality of packets which include a packet containing graphics data, a packet containing palette data, and a packet containing control data;
the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value;
the control data includes a reference value showing the palette data;
upon reading control data in the graphics stream, the reproduction apparatus displays graphics which has been generated by decoding graphics data that precedes the control data in the graphics stream, based on the control data; and the reproduction apparatus displays the graphics by setting the palette data in the lookup table unit and instructing the lookup table unit to perform color conversion based on the reference value in the control data.

5. The reproduction apparatus of claim 4, wherein:
the graphics stream includes a plurality of display sets each of which is used for producing a graphics display; and upon reading a display set to which the graphics data belongs, the graphics decoder decodes the graphics data to generate the graphics and stores the generated graphics to an object buffer.

generating application data; and recording the application data to the recording medium, wherein:
the application data includes a digital stream generated by multiplexing a video stream and a graphics stream;
the graphics stream is a sequence of a plurality of packets which include a packet containing graphics data, a packet containing palette data, and a packet containing control data;
the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value; and the control data is information indicating that a display color of the graphics data contained in a preceding packet in the sequence is to be color-converted at a predetermined time, and includes a reference value showing the palette data to be used for the color conversion.

program code operable to cause the computer to decode the video stream to generate a moving picture; and program code operable to cause the computer to decode the graphics stream to generate graphics, wherein:
the graphics stream is a sequence of a plurality of packets which include a packet containing graphics data, a packet containing palette data and a packet containing control data;
the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value;
the control data includes a reference value showing the palette data;
upon reading control data in the graphics stream, the program code causes the computer to decode the graphics stream and the reproduction method displays graphics which has been generated by decoding graphics data that precedes the control data in the graphics stream, based on the control data; and the display is performed by executing color conversion using the palette data corresponding to the reference value in the control data.

the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value;
the control data includes a reference value showing the palette data;
upon reading control data in the graphics stream, the reproduction method displays graphics which has been generated by decoding graphics data that precedes the control data in the graphics stream, based on the control data; and the display is performed by executing color conversion using the palette data corresponding to the reference value in the control data.
decoding the video stream to generate a moving picture; and decoding the graphics stream to generate graphics, wherein;
the graphics stream is a sequence of a plurality of packets which include a packet containing graphics data, a packet containing palette data, and a packet containing control data;
the graphics data is data expressing display contents using a plurality of code values;
the palette data shows a correspondence between each code value and a pixel value;
the control data includes a reference value showing the palette data;
upon reading control data in the graphics stream, the reproduction method displays graphics which has been generated by decoding graphics data that precedes the control data in the graphics stream, based on the control data; and the display is performed by executing color conversion using the palette data corresponding to the reference value in the control data.
