Abstract
一种含有经铝或铝-铈的氧化物的涂层和水解的硅烷偶联剂处理的表面的薄层状颜料,可以用作粉末涂料组合物的颜料。通过使颜料与粉末状的成膜聚合物相结合,可以生产应用于静电涂装的成膜组合物。
Description
发明背景
为在各种底材上施加彩色涂层的静电涂装方法是众所周知的。在该方法中使用的组合物是成膜聚合物和具有所需颜色的一种或多种颜料的可带电的粉末混合物。遗憾地是,在过去,为用于粉末喷涂器的这类粉末涂料组合物的制备存在着与片状颜料有关的问题。
为了使外观效果达到最好,金属性材料的片状颜料依赖于它们的薄层状结构。这种片包括例如金属薄片如铝、青铜和不锈钢片以及天然或合成的珠光颜料,可以例举,如天然珍珠粉或涂布有金属氧化物的底材如涂布有二氧化钛的云母、涂布有氧化铁的云母、涂布有二氧化钛的玻璃、涂布有氧化铁的玻璃和涂布有铁的铝薄片。在制造粉末涂料组合物时所采用的挤压或研磨过程会破坏这种金属的或珠光般的颜料的薄层状结构,结果制得的涂层外观显示减低的光泽效果。
工业上已经试图通过干混合颜料和聚合物粉末,即聚合物载体与颜料机械混合来避免上述问题。遗憾地是,颜料和粉末微粒通常产生不同的电荷负载量,结果是当粉末涂料组合物静电喷涂在底材上时发生颜色变换。除此之外,在那些不附着在底材上、并且然后被回收的喷涂组合物中,颜料趋于从粉末中分离出来,这使得回收材料难于再利用。
为了克服由于干混合过程导致的问题,人们开发了一种掺混工艺,其中将粉末基材和颜料混合,然后将其加热到足够高的温度以软化粉末微粒的表面,以使颜料能结合在这些微粒的表面上,如在美国专利5,187,220中所述的。尽管该方法适用于电晕静电法,并且减轻了再利用过度喷涂粉末的问题,但是在最终混合物中也遗留了两个显然不同的表面。而且,该工序对于摩擦静电法也不适用。
在美国专利No.5,824,144中,记载了在本技术领域方面的重要改进,其公开的内容全部引入本发明并作为参考。如其所述,使含金属的薄片状颜料具有聚合物或其它粘性液体材料的粘性表面。当该已处理的颜料与粉末涂料组合物混合时,粉末附着在颜料表面,进而使色分离达到最小。颜料也被粉末包胶进而得到单层表面。那些不附着在粉末材料上的颜料微粒的较理想的负载也得以实现。
在粉末涂料组合物中使用含金属的薄片状颜料的重要问题是能够加入的颜料浓度的局限性。尽管在单一应用环境或实验室中颜料量最高可达到约10%或更高,但是当在较大规模操作时,如商业规模,浓度只能限于约3%。当浓度超过约3%时,会出现许多问题。这些问题包括喷枪堵塞、斑污的板外观和色分离。
现已发现,一种以前研制出来的用于使室外用的珠光颜料具有改进的耐湿性和全面耐候性、并且用在液体涂料体系例如含溶剂的或含水的汽车油漆体系(例如着色底色漆和透明面漆)的处理方法在粉末涂料方面可提供优良性能。当加入到粉末涂料中时,室外颜料的处理可以意想不到地改进颜料的施用性能。这种改进包括,在静电枪的尖端处较少发生颜料的淤塞,进料管线的传输上的改善,改进的颜料传输效率和更加均匀的涂层外观。
发明概述
本发明涉及一种改进的珠光颜料粉末涂料组合物以及粉末涂装方法。
更具体地说,本发明涉及
1.一种粉末涂料组合物,其含有微粒树脂载体和微粒颜料的混合物,其中颜料是薄片状含金属颜料,其具有水合的氧化铝或水合的氧化铈和氧化铝的第一涂层,以及在第一层上面或与其相互混合的水解硅烷偶联剂的涂层(使用这种粉末涂料组合物可以提供改进的粉末涂料施工方法);
2.根据以上发明内容1的粉末涂料组合物,其中硅烷偶联剂包括非氨基硅烷偶联剂;
3.根据以上发明内容2的粉末涂料组合物,其中非氨基硅烷偶联剂含有烷氧基残基;

发明详述
本发明的粉末涂料组合物是常规用于静电应用的、经干混的粉末涂料组合物,其中的颜料已按如下所述方式处理。所以迄今为止使用的任何已知微粒树脂载体都可以用在本发明的组合物和方法中。由于在本发明中使用改进的颜料,典型的颜料浓度最高可以达到整个粉末的约8%。典型地,依据所需效果,颜料将构成组合物的约1-8%。
本发明的颜料是薄层状的,即是一种类似薄片状物的颜料。薄片状物可以由诸如铝、青铜或不锈钢的薄片状反射金属制得,或者也可以是任意天然或合成的珠光颜料。天然珠光颜料包括天然珍珠粉,合成颜料包括涂布有金属氧化物的云母颜料、涂布有金属氧化物的玻璃薄片、涂布有铁的铝薄片和涂布有还原钛的云母。基于商业考虑,最经常使用二氧化钛和氧化铁。然而,依据本发明,任何薄层状颜料都可以进行处理。
用水合氧化铝涂布涂有金属氧化物的云母颜料的方法本身是已知的。该方法例如记载于美国专利No.5,091,011中。该文件的全部引入本发明并作为参考。简要地讲,通过搅拌使颜料分散在水中,然后将铝化合物例如氯化铝、硫酸铝或硫酸铝钾与中和试剂例如氢氧化钠、氢氧化钾、氨或尿素同时作为水溶液加入。最终的水解使得水合氧化物沉积在底材上。按该文记载,铝化合物必须足够慢地添加以在薄片状物上形成光滑、连续的层,速率范围为每分钟每克颜料约0.03-0.1毫克Al,优选每分钟每克颜料0.005-0.07毫克Al。使用一定量铝化合物溶液以制备基于颜料整体重量的,含有约0.05-1.2%铝,优选约0.1-0.8%的铝的水合氧化铝涂层。铝浓度为约1.2%的颜料在稳定性方面不如含有较低浓度铝的颜料有效。在沉积涂层之后,可以过滤、用水洗涤和在任意适宜的温度下干燥产品。应当避免使用足以煅烧水合氧化铝的温度。
基本上由水合的氧化铈和氧化铝结合构成涂层的颜料的涂装本身也是已知的。该内容例如记载于美国专利No.5,423,912中。该文件全部引入本发明并作为参考。简要地讲,颜料分散在液体里,从该液体中铈和铝可以容易地沉淀在颜料的表面。这种液体宜是,且优选是水分散体。在分散体中,固体颜料通常约占5-30%,优选约10-20%,铈和铝各自以可溶解于液体介质中的盐形式加入到分散体中。尽管可以使用其它盐,优选硝酸盐。基于颜料的重量,以铈的重量百分比计,宜沉积约0.1-1.5%,更优选0.2-0.6%的氢氧化铈,和以铝的重量百分比计,沉积约0.1-1%,更优选0.2-0.6%的氢氧化铝。盐可以以任意顺序单独添加到淤浆中并沉积或优选同时添加并沉积。通过提高PH值达到大于约5来控制沉淀,优选值为约5.5-7.5。沉积步骤完成之后,被处理的产品通过任意适宜地方法例如过滤、离心作用或沉降从分散体中分离出来,然后洗涤和干燥。
本发明的用铝或铝-铈处理的颜料还用水解硅烷偶联剂或这些试剂的混合物额外处理。已知,这些是可以作为有机材料和无机材料之间的界面以增强两者之间亲合力的化合物。所以,硅烷偶联剂通常具有有机官能团和与硅直接或间接键合的硅官能基团。硅官能基团通常是烷氧基,优选C1-4的烷氧基。
可以应用于本发明的硅烷偶联剂的实例有:γ-(2-氨乙基)氨丙基三甲氧基硅烷、氨丙基三甲氧基硅烷、γ-氨丙基三乙氧基硅烷、γ-(2-氨乙基)氨丙基甲基二甲氧基硅烷、γ-甲基丙烯酰氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷、γ-环氧丙氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷、γ-巯醇基丙基三甲氧基硅烷、乙烯基三乙酰氧基硅烷、γ-氯丙基三甲氧基硅烷、乙烯基三甲氧基硅烷、三甲基氯硅烷、γ-异氰酸根合丙基三乙氧基硅烷等。
应当选择硅烷偶联剂,以适用于与所用的颜料相结合的任何有机材料。
通过干或湿混合用硅氧烷偶联剂处理颜料。例如,于水中或水和有机溶剂的混合物中的试剂的水溶液可以添加到颜料的含水淤浆中。优选硅烷是预先水解的,例如在适当的一段时间内搅拌水中的偶联剂。也可以在混合的时候实现水解。通常,基于100重量份的所处理颜料使用约0.1-10重量%,优选约0.25-5重量%的硅烷偶联剂。偶联剂与颜料结合一段时间以使反应进行,这需要进行几分钟到几小时或更长的时间,优选约3-24小时。然后,可按常规方式例如过滤、离心等回收已处理的颜料,并干燥。如果需要,偶联剂的处理和铝/铈的处理也可以结合进行。
为更能进一步说明本发明,下面列举各种非限定性的实施例。在这些实施例中,以及贯穿整个说明书和权利要求书中的所有的份数和百分比都以重量计算,所有的温度都是℃,除非另有说明。
实施例1
采用一种反射蓝色的涂布有TiO2的云母颜料,含53%的TiO2和1%的SnO2,且长度基本上为5-50μm长度的薄片状物作为底材。颜料的等分试样(250克)分散在3升的蒸馏水中,并在60℃下伴随搅拌加热。用盐酸调整PH达到5.5,然后在57分钟内,以4毫升/分钟的速度添加2.91%AlCl3·6H2O(3.3毫克Al/毫升)。同时,添加3.5%苛性碱溶液以保持PH为5.5。搅拌15分钟之后,过滤并用蒸馏水清洗产品,并在110℃下干燥。水合氧化铝含有基于被处理颜料整体重量0.3%的铝。
将400克被铝表面处理的涂布有二氧化钛的云母进料放置在装备有增强棒的V形漏斗混合器中。通过搅拌10克γ-环氧丙氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷和22克去离子水1小时来制备水解的硅烷偶联剂。2.44克水解的硅烷随着在混合器中翻转雾化在颜料上,并且剧烈混合约20分钟以使硅烷均匀分布在颜料上。然后,静置该混合物2小时以使偶联剂和颜料充分反应。
实施例2
按照实施例1的步骤进行,采用的颜料是反射红色的涂布有氧化铁的云母(40%Fe2O3),所含薄片状物主要为5-40μm的长度。在114分钟内,添加氯化铝溶液。过滤、清洗和干燥之后,产品所含的水合氧化物中含有0.6%的铝。
实施例3
将用乙酸调整pH达到4的(3-环氧丙氧基丙基)三甲氧基硅烷的2%水溶液搅拌60分钟。将足量被铝处理的实施例1的涂布有二氧化钛的云母添加到溶液中以得到20%的淤浆浓度,并始终搅拌淤浆。约2.5小时之后,通过过滤从含水淤浆中回收颜料,然后在80℃下干燥16小时。
实施例4
重复实施例3的步骤,但使用的硅烷是β-(3,4-环氧环己基)乙基三甲氧基硅烷。
实施例5
重复实施例3的步骤,但使用的硅烷是γ-甲基丙烯酰氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷。
实施例6
重复实施例3的步骤,但使用的硅烷是γ-环氧丙氧基丙基三甲氧基硅烷和辛基三乙氧基硅烷的混合物。
实施例7
将按照实施例1的步骤用氢氧化铈和硅烷处理过的并具有珍珠外观的八份涂布有二氧化钛的云母珠光颜料与100份黑聚酯粉末干燥混合(RAL9005购自H.B.Fuller商业代码为P3M5855)。将聚酯粉末和颜料混合并摇动5分钟,首先通过30目的筛子,然后通过60目的筛子筛分,收集的材料再另外摇动5分钟。然后使用电晕喷枪将混合物静电施加在铝板上,在电炉中固化该板10分钟。最终的板呈现光滑、均匀的外观并且在喷枪的喷嘴尖端未出现明显的淤塞。
为作对照,重复上述步骤,但所用颜料是商业上可以购得的珠光铬处理的室外等级的珠光颜料。在该实施例中,有相当多的颜料淤积在喷枪尖端,且得到的涂层外观相对不均匀,颜色暗,表明有较少百分率的颜料存在于板上。
实施例8
在另外的用于测定转移效率的试验中,重复实施例7的处理过程。在被涂布的板烘烤之前,从板上刮下涂料粉末并分析以测定转移效率和喷涂之前和之后的平均直径。样品中颜料的量通过灰化样品和对灰分定量称重来确定。如果所有的颜料都转移到板上,灰分中颜料的量将与干燥涂料混合物中的量相同。
结果列于下面的表中,其中“基材”指不含颜料的RAL9005,“Ce/Si”指使用本发明颜料的干混粉末,“Cr干混”指使用对照的铬处理颜料的干混粉末,而“Cr键合”指在上述美国专利No.5,187,220中所述应用于被铬处理的颜料的产品,其中粉末基材和颜料混合、加热到软化点导致颜料与粉末表面的结合。

实施例9
重复实施例7的步骤,所不同的是混合粉末和颜料,然后在喷涂之前仅摇动5分钟。使用本发明珠光颜料可以赋予成品粉末流动性,这有助于在涂装设备的漏斗和传输管中的流体化作用。可以观察到粉末自由流动,在传输管中没有留下聚集的残留材料。在喷涂中,颜料不与粉末分离,在折流板上没有残留珠光着色剂。使用未按本发明处理的其它珠光着色剂,发现聚集在折流板上的珠光着色剂不断结块,或者转移到涂布的板上,产生斑点和缺陷。
实施例10
重复实施例7的步骤,但使用了涂布有氧化铁的云母颜料。发现在光滑性方面有改进。
在本发明的方法和产品方面,可以进行不偏离其宗旨和范围的各种改变和调整。在本文中记载的各种具体实施方案只是为解释说明而不限制本发明。
Claims (19)
1.一种粉末涂料组合物,含有微粒树脂载体和微粒颜料的混合物,其中颜料是薄层状含金属颜料,其上有水合氧化铝或者水合氧化铈和水合氧化铝之组合的第一涂层,以及在第一涂层上面或与其相互混合的水解硅烷偶联剂涂层。
2.根据权利要求1的粉末涂料组合物,其中硅烷偶联剂包括非氨基硅烷偶联剂。
3.根据权利要求2的粉末涂料组合物,其中非氨基硅烷偶联剂含有烷氧基残基。
4.根据权利要求3的粉末涂料组合物,其中颜料是涂布有二氧化钛的云母或涂布有氧化铁的云母。
5.根据权利要求1的粉末涂料组合物,其中硅烷偶联剂是三甲氧基硅烷偶联剂。
