技术领域
本发明涉及光纤光缆网络。更具体地,本发明涉及光纤光缆的终端。
背景技术
无源光网络正在逐渐广为使用的部分原因在于服务提供商希望向消费者提供高带宽的通信容量。由于无源光网络在中心局和用户终端之间不使用例如放大器和中继器的有源电子器件,它们是用于传送高速通信数据的理想选择。没有有源电子器件可降低网络的复杂度和成本,而且可增加网络可靠性。
无源光网络可使用分光器从单根输入光纤中提取信号,并使得多个输出光纤能够获得该信号。例如,配线光缆可包括24根光纤并且可从中心局铺设到分配位置,例如设备外壳。在设备外壳处,配线光缆中的每根光纤可被分束到多个输出光纤中,这些输出光纤可供多个用户使用。例如,无源光网络使用1∶2、1∶4、1∶8、1∶16和1∶32的分束比来使得光学数据可被多个用户位置都可用。源自设备外壳,即在分光器的输出处的多根输出光纤需要连接到用户位置。由于输出光纤可被置于光缆中以便进行保护,一个光纤子集需要被相同数目的用户接入和可使用。
现有技术使用接续来将光纤子集从配线光缆中分出。这些接续通常在该配线光缆安装好后由训练有素的人员现场执行。这种接续的形式被称为人工接续,或者现场接续。由于人员必须是经过专门训练的而且执行接续操作可能是时间非常紧张的,因此人工接续是耗时的而且在劳动力方面是很昂贵的。另外,需要在宽的变量范围内保证接头外壳的环境安全,由此与接续光缆相关的材料成本比较昂贵。人工接续还需要专门工具。
无源光网络可以经由沿配线光缆设置的连接器而扩展,从而创建各个分支的光学路径。例如,由于在配线光缆初次安装好时没有用户位于配线光缆附近,在配线光缆安装好后,分支光缆可连接到这些连接器。将分支光缆从连接器位置安装到用户位置的技术人员或其他人员通常测试在中心局和连接器之间的链路,以确保在分支光缆安装时光是连续的。测试通常涉及在中心局位置和连接器位置之间移动,以在一个位置注入信号而在第二个位置检测该信号。中心局和连接器位置之间的距离是相当长的,而且需要技术人员耗时的移动。
发明内容
根据本公开,公开了环回连接器和用于测试光纤光网络中线路的方法。该环回连接器具有箍圈(ferrule),并能够包括用于连接多光纤光光缆中的光纤的环回路径。该箍圈具有适于与多光纤光学连接器对准的接口侧。箍圈中的环回路径光学地连接到多光纤光学连接器中的两根光纤。在某些实施例中,环回塞可包括平面光波电路。

图6示出图5E中示例性工厂集成终端500,其被配置为包括符合本发明原理的射频识别(RFID)标签600。工厂集成终端的实施可以配备有RFID标签,以便在接续位置中包括机器可读信息。RFID标签是能够存储信息和使用射频波发送信息的设备。RFID标签可以是不包括电源的无源设备,或者它们也可以是有源的。无源RFID标签需要使用来自收发器的射频信号进行查询。当无源RFID标签被射频能量照射到时,会变成低能量的发射器。查询收发器可读出来自RFID标签的传输。
相反,有源RFID标签可以包括如电池的电源。有源RFID标签可执行更加复杂的操作,并且与无源RFID标签相比较可以发送到更远的距离。有源RFID标签可以一直处于休眠模式,直到被收发器查询到。当被查询到时,有源RFID标签可以打开发射器并向收发器发射信息。
RFID标签可以经由射频接收要存储的信息,或者当利用本领域公知的技术进行制造时,它们是可编程的。当查询时,RFID标签可向查询设备发送所存储的信息。例如,利用关于接续地理位置的信息以及利用关于与连接到分出口或接口的光纤相连接的用户的信息,能对RFID标签600进行编码。当查询时,RFID标签600可以使得查询设备能获得该编码信息。
图7示出可以用于实施符合本发明原理的有源RFID标签的示例性设备结构。在不脱离本发明的思想的情况下,结构700也可在计算机、查询设备、RFID编程设备,以及用于测试工厂集成终端组件的设备中实施。结合图7所示的实施是示例性的,可选地,可使用其它配置。
结构700可包括处理器720、总线722、存储器730、只读存储器(ROM)740、存储设备750、输入设备760、输出设备770,以及通信接口780。总线722使得结构700中的各个元件之间能够通信,并且可包括能够传送数据和指令的光或电的导体。
处理器720可包括任何类型的传统处理器、微处理器或可解释和执行指令的处理逻辑中的任意类型,而且处理器720能够以单独配置方式实施,或者以例如并行处理器配置的分布式配置方式实施。存储器730可包括随机读取存储器(RAM)或者其它类型的用于存储由处理器720执行的信息和指令的动态存储设备。存储器730还可以用于在处理器720执行指令期间存储临时变量或者其它中间信息。
ROM 740可以包括传统的ROM设备和/或其它用于存储处理器720的静态信息和指令的静态存储设备。存储设备750可包括磁盘或光盘以及相应的驱动和/或一些其它类型的用于存储信息和指令的磁性的或光学的记录介质及其相应的驱动。
输入设备760可包括一个或多个传统接口、元件和/或使得操作者向结构700输入信息的机制,例如键盘、鼠标、笔、语音识别和/或生物计量机制等。输出设备770可包括一个或多个传统的用于向操作者输出信息的机制,并且可包括显示器、打印机、一个或多个扬声器等。通信接口780可包括任何能够使得结构700与其它设备和/或系统进行通信的类似收发器的机制。例如,通信接口780可以包括无线收发器,该无线收发器用于将RFID标签与例如手持收发器以可通信方式耦合在一起。
结构700可响应于执行包含在存储器730中的指令序列的处理器720执行处理。这种指令可从另一个计算机可读介质750中读入存储器730,或者经由通信接口780从单独的设备读入。应该理解的是计算机可读介质可包括一个或多个存储器设备、载波或数据结构。执行包含在存储器730中的指令序列可使得处理器720执行此后结合方法流程图和信号流程图描述的某些动作。在可选实施例中,硬件连线电路被用于替换软件指令或与软件指令一起来实施结构700所执行的功能。这样,符合本发明的实施并不限于硬件电路和软件的任何具体结合。
图8A和8B示出使用符合本发明原理的耐用的MT连接器的工厂集成终端800的示例性实施。工厂集成终端800的实施可包括系链(tether)802,该系链802用连接器终结。例如,MT母连接器804可安装在与已经从配线光缆102中抽出或分出的光纤带相关联的一个或多个光纤的远端上。转让给Corning Cable Systems LLC的美国专利6648520号和6579014号进一步描述了适合在抽出的光纤带的远端上使用的连接器和/或插座的例子。
例如图8A所示的实施可包括具有四根光纤的光纤带系链804,这些光纤以单个的SC/APC连接器终结。利用连接器终结的实施可利用相配合的插头和/或插座来塞住,直到一个或多个用户连接到系链(tether)802。相配合的插头和/或插座用作假塞子,以保护连接器中的光纤免受污物和潮气的影响。使用连接器化的系链802使得与诸如光纤下路终端的分配设备有关的基本建设费用得以延迟到用户真正连接到配线光缆102的时候支付。
图9A和9B示出在测试符合本发明的原理的工厂集成终端中使用的示例性环回连接器900。利用连接器902终结的实施可以用能够用于使系链测试方便的环回连接器900塞住。环回塞或连接器可以被配置成将系链904中的第一光纤耦合到系链904中的第二光纤。在中心局,测试信号可在第一光纤上注入并在中心局处的第二光纤上检测到。环回连接器900的使用可以消除执行测试时在系链904和中心局之间往返穿梭。在测试所利用的配线光缆102时,消除穿梭能够产生显著时间和成本的节约。转让给Fiber Optic Network Solutions Corp的美国专利申请11/198848号和11/198153号示出了使用环回连接器从单个位置测试光纤下路终端的方法,这些专利的公开在这里以引用方式并入此处。
图9C示出图9A和9B中环回连接器900的示意性视图以及符合本发明原理的四个带状光纤的示意性表示。
本公开的另一方面涉及减小环回测试设备的尺寸和使制造环回测试设备容易的配置。在一个实施例中,平面光波电路PLC被并入环回设备中,以提供环回功能。例如,平面光波电路可并入多光纤连接器(MFC)组件中,以便将从MFC的一根光纤发射出的光信号引导回同一MFC的另一光纤中。在这种方式中,PLC用于在MFC的光纤之间环回信号。通过提供这种环回功能,测试信号可从同一位置(例如,中心局)产生并测试。
平面光波电路在本领域是公知的。例如,美国专利6961503号、6937797号、6304706号、6787867号、以及6507680号中公开了平面光波电路和制造平面光波电路的方法,这些专利申请的公开的全部以引用方式并入此处。
PLC技术具有无数优势。例如,由于PLC的生产与半导体晶元加工相似,制造成本相对较低。此外,PLC技术能够具有较低的插入损耗并且在每个波导路径之间具有一致的插入损耗值。为了使得PLC环回芯片与标准的MFC能够相互配合,PLC波导的大小能够按照MFC相互配合性规范(例如,MPO连接器的TIA/EIA-604)进行设计。另外,可在在PLC芯片内制造对准特征。在某些实施例中,预定的插入损耗可设计到用于测量识别目的的具有波长灵敏性的波导设计中。
图9D示出包括通用的矩形衬底952及多个波导/光导954的示意性PLC芯片950。如图9D所示,示出了六个波导954。每个波导954具有一个环路配置,该环路配置在衬底952的接口侧958处带有终结端部956。当PLC芯片950被集成到环回连接器的箍圈中时,端部956被露出且适于与将要被光学耦合到环回连接器的多终端(MT)连接器的相应光纤对准。PLC芯片950可包括对准结构(例如,v型槽、针型插座、插针以及其他结构),以便确保波导954的端部956与光学耦合到PLC芯片950的MT连接器的相应光纤对准。
PLC芯片950可通过大量不同技术进行制造。在一个实施例中,通过初始提供包含具有第一折射率的玻璃的底层衬底来制造PLC芯片。然后在底层上沉积玻璃中间层。优选地,中间层具有适于波导的第二折射率。第一和第二折射率彼此不同。然后,刻蚀掉中间层以便限定波导954。此后,在中间层上施加具有与底层相当的折射率的玻璃顶层。
底层和顶层的厚度能够不同。例如,顶层可以比底层更薄。
为了改善性能,可对PLC芯片950的接口侧958进行抛光。此外,接口侧958可以是成角度的,以便与MT连接器的对应角度相匹配,其中PLC芯片950需要光学耦合到该MT连接器。在一个实施例中,接口侧958可被打磨成约80度的角度。
参考图9E和9F,PLC芯片950被示出为集成到多终端环回连接器962的箍圈结构960中。例如,PLC芯片950被示出为安装在插座964中,而插座型连接器964限定在连接器962的箍圈结构960中。盖子966或其他保持结构可用于将PLC芯片950保持在插座964中。PLC芯片950能够是自由的以便在插座964中略微浮动。在某些实施例中,可以利用弹簧向上偏压PLC芯片950。
当安装在箍圈结构960中时,抛光的PLC芯片950的接口侧958被暴露出来。PLC芯片950被示出为包括对准开口970,该对准开口970用于将波导954的端部956与MT连接器974的相应光纤972对准,其中该MT连接器974需要与多终端环回连接器962耦合。当多终端连接器974连接到多终端环回连接器962时(如图9G所示),多终端连接器974的插针976滑入PLC芯片950的开口970中,以确保波导954的端部956和光纤972的端部之间对准。在某些实施例中,箍圈结构960可并入具有如图9A所示类型的销锁设置的环回连接器中。
在其他实施例中,能够使用其他类型的对准结构。例如,能够在PLC芯片处配备公对准结构(例如,接线柱),以便将环回连接器与相应的母MT连接器连接在一起。在另一实施例中,PLC芯片能够在芯片端部处配备有V型槽,以便容纳设置在连接器524上的插针。
图10A和10B示出了在符合本发明的原理的系链上使用耐用连接器的工厂集成终端1000的示例性实施。图10A和10B中示出的实施可以在第一端部1004上具有MT连接器1002,且在第二端部1008上具有一个或多个单端口连接器1006。第一端部1004可插入一个与工厂集成终端相关联的配合连接器。第二端部1008可以包括用于与连接到与一个或多个用户相关联的光纤光缆的连接器相配合。图10A和10B中的实施可包括分出口1010,该分出口1010用作从单光缆到与第二端部上的多个连接器相关联的多光缆的转换。
图11A-11F示出采用符合本发明原理的光纤下路终端1100的工厂集成终端的示例性实施。转让给Fiber Optic Network Solutions Corp.的美国专利申请11/198848号和11/198153号中进一步描述了下路终端1100,这些专利申请的公开内容已在前面以引用方式并入此处。光纤下路终端1100用于为与用户相关联的光纤光缆提供连接点。光纤下路终端1100可附接到如电线杆、建筑、设备机箱等的结构上。
符合本发明的系统和方法使得能够制造、安装和测试无源光网络的配线光缆。例如,使用工厂集成终端组件可对配线光缆进行接续,以提供紧凑的且环境无害的分出口,以便用户可以方便地连接到通信网络。

Claims (17)

1.一种环回连接器,包括:
(a)箍圈结构,具有构造成光学地连接到多光纤光学连接器的接口侧;
(b)第一光环回路径,具有位于所述接口侧的第一和第二终端端部,所述第一终端端部适合与所述多光纤光学连接器的第一光纤对准,且所述第二终端端部适合与所述多光纤光学连接器的第二光纤对准;以及
(c)第二光环回路径,具有位于所述接口侧的第一和第二终端端部,所述第一终端端部配置成与所述多光纤光学连接器中的第三光纤耦合,且所述第二终端端部配置成与所述多光纤光学连接器中的第四光纤耦合。
2.如权利要求1所述的环回连接器,其中所述第一和第二光环回路径形成在平面光波电路中。
3.如权利要求2所述的环回连接器,其中所述平面光波电路并入所述箍圈结构中。
4.如权利要求3所述的环回连接器,其中所述平面光波电路在所述箍圈结构的插座中浮动。
5.如权利要求4所述的环回连接器,其中所述平面光波电路包括玻璃衬底,该玻璃衬底被刻蚀以形成与所述第一和第二光环回路径相对应的第一和第二波导。
6.如权利要求1所述的环回连接器,其中在所述第一和第二光环回路径中的至少之一中构成预定插入损耗。
7.如权利要求6所述的环回连接器,其中所述预定插入损耗是对波长敏感的。
8.如权利要求6所述的环回连接器,其中所述第一和第二光环回路径具有一致的插入损耗。
9.如权利要求4所述的环回连接器,还包括保持结构,该保持结构被构造成将所述平面光波电路保持在所述箍圈结构的所述插座中。
10.如权利要求1所述的环回连接器,还包括构造成与所述连接器的对准特征互补的对准特征。
11.一种测试光纤光网络中的线路的方法,所述方法包括:
在第一位置处在第一光学路径上注入信号;
通过使用平面光波电路的环回路径在第二位置处环回所述信号以将所述信号从所述第一光学路径环回到第二光学路径;
在所述第一位置处在所述第二光学路径上接收所述信号。
12.如权利要求11所述的方法,还包括测试在所述第一位置处接收到的信号的信号衰减。
13.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中在安装所述第一和第二光学路径时,将所述平面光波电路连接到所述光纤光网络。
14.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中所述第一位置为中心局。
15.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中所述第二端部是工厂集成终端位置。
16.一种测试光纤光网络中的线路的方法,所述方法包括:
在第一位置处在第一光学路径上注入信号;
通过环回连接器在第二位置处环回所述信号;
所述环回连接器包括:
(a)箍圈,具有构造成光学连接到具有多个光学路径的多光纤光缆的接口侧,其中所述多个光学路径包括所述第一光学路径和所述第二光学路径;
(b)第一光环回路径,具有位于所述接口侧的第一和第二终端端部,所述第一终端端部适合与第一光学路径对准,且所述第二终端端部适合与所述第二光学路径对准;
(c)第二光环回路径,具有位于所述接口侧的第一和第二终端端部,所述第一终端端部配置成与所述第三光学路径耦合,且所述第二终端端部配置成与所述第四光学路径耦合;
在所述第一位置处在第二光学路径上接收所述信号。
17.如权利要求16所述的方法,其中所述环回连接器连接到位于配线光缆的出口位置处的多光纤连接器。
