Abstract

本发明涉及传送视频影片的服务和视频服务器。
视频服务器是一种在存储器中存有一些影片的服务器,并可将选中的视频影片传送到点播它们的用户。
一种传送视频影片的可能性由美国专利5,410,343提出。用户通过数字电话网从视频服务器上查询当前能获得的视频影片,并从中选择。选中的影片通过数字电话网的宽带辅助通道从视频服务器传送,并在电视机上显示给用户。为了提供宽带辅助通道,需要几个数字交叉连接系统。由于宽带辅助通道应用的不一致性,数字电话网的传送能力没有很好地利用。而且视频影片的选择包含大量的技术难度,因为它需要符合协议的设备、通常所说的视频网关和网络管理系统。
因此本发明的一个目的是用较低的技术难度来传输视频影片。
一种用于传送视频信号的视频服务器(VOD),包括一个发送单元(SEN)、一个接收单元(EMP)、一个控制单元(CTRL)和一个存储器(MEMO),其中存储器(MEMO)可以存储一些视频信号,通过控制单元(CTRL)存储在存储器(MEMO)中的每一视频信号都可以被选择并送入发送单元(SEN),发送单元(SEN)和接收单元(EMP)都能连到综合业务数字网(ISDN)上,视频服务器(VOD)可以通过接收单元(EMP)被拨号访问以建立来自综合业务数字网(ISDN)的交换连接,且视频服务器(VOD)是通过拨叫由服务号码与辅助号码组成的一个号码被访问的,该辅助号码是由视频服务器名的缩写(ARD)而定,并且通过应答接收单元(EMP)接收的信号,存储的视频信号可以被选择并通过交换连接传送到综合业务数字网(ISDN)上。

图1说明了根据本发明的系统的第1实施例。用于传送视频影片的系统SYS包括视频服务器VOD、综合业务数字网ISDN、基于客户的设备END和发送电视信号的发送器TV。
综合业务数字网ISDN就是通常所说的ISDN,其中信息在窄带传输通道和信令通道中传送。例如,在一个ISDN基本连接中,为基于用户的设备分配两个64kbps的传输通道和一个16kbps的信令通道。
例如,用于发送电视信号的发送器TV是SuddeutscherRundfunk(south German Broadcasting Service南德国广播系统)SDR的发送器,它将电视节目送入宽带电缆发布网,例如,从而将它传送到大量基于用户的设备中。
基于用户的设备END包括一个视频电话TEL。例如,该视频电话TEL取自1995年3月的“Alcatel 2838-Das Bildtelefon in Ihrem Buro”的说明书。
视频服务器VOD包括一个控制单元CTRL、一个存储器MEMO、一个发送单元SEN和一个接收单元EMP。控制单元CTRL可以是一个微处理器或数字信号处理器。存储器MEMO可以是随机存取存储器。
视频服务器VOD与发送器TV相连,并通过综合业务数字网ISDN连到视频电话TEL上。视频电话TEL通过一个2×64kbps+1×16kbps(2B+D)ISDN基本接口与综合业务数字网ISDN相连。
存储器MEMO中存储了一些视频影片。一部视频影片可以是从发送器TV发送、由控制单元CTRL接收记录的新闻广播。在该新闻广播的发送过程中,也发送了演播室图片。每张演播室图片之间的信息变化很少。如果只发送这些图片间的变化信息,就能够在64kbps这样的窄带通道中发送该新闻广播。另一种视频影片是风景镜头,例如作为旅行社的宣传影片或滑雪地区的天气形势图。
视频服务器VOD提供了交换的视频服务,用于将选中的影片从视频服务器VOD传送到基于用户的设备上的视频电话TEL。用户提供视频电话TEL拨打视频服务器VOD的号码,建立一个交换连接。通过信令通道和综合业务数字网ISDN的一个交换,建立基于用户的设备END和视频服务器VOD之间的交换连接。该交换连接包括两个64kbps的通道。两个64kbps通道之一用于传送图象,另一个用于传送话音,如与画面相配的声音等。交换连接建立后,视频服务器VOD以菜单的形式发送一个影片名录给基于用户的设备END。在视频电话TEL的屏幕上,影片名(如可根据其主题内容排列)与相应选择号码一起显示。这些主题可以是最新的新闻、旅游或语言教程等。用户通过视频电话TEL的数字键盘键入欲选择的号码,并由信令通道传送到视频服务器VOD。视频服务器VOD通过接收单元EMP接收所选择的号码并传送给控制单元CTRL。控制单元CTRL从存储器MEMO中的视频影片中选出属于该号码的影片,并通过发送单元SEN和两个64kbps的通道实时地传送到视频电话TEL。在传送过程中,应保持基于用户的设备END和视频服务器VOD之间的交换连接。该交换连接可以被基于用户的设备END在任何时候象结束普通电话一样通过放下视频电话TEL的手柄而断开。而且,在视频电话TEL上键入一个预定的视频影片的号码,可以在保持交换连接的前提下停止该视频影片的传送,而在随后出现的菜单中选择另一部视频影片。当选定的视频影片传送完毕时,视频服务器VOD把菜单传送到基于用户的设备上。如果在预定的时间内没有选择,交换连接就断开了。
图2给出了根据本发明的系统的第2实施例。用于传送视频影片的系统SYS包括一个发送电视信号的发送器TV、一个卫星SAT、一个视频服务器VOD、综合业务数字网ISDN、一个数字无线网GSM和一个移动对象ZUG。
例如,发送电视信号的发送器TV是通过无线通道将电视节目发送到卫星SAT上的一个电视组织的发送器,该卫星将电视节目发回地面,使它们能为一些基于用户的设备所接收。
视频服务器VOD的设计类似于图1中的视频服务器。它包括一个控制单元、一个存储器、一个发送单元、一个接收单元和一个用于接收通过卫星SAT传送的电视节目的辅助接收设备。
综合业务数字网ISDN就是图1中通常所说的ISDN。
数字无线网GSM是一个基于GSM标准的蜂窝移动无线网;“GSM”代表“Global System for Mobile Communication(全球移动通信系统)”。数字无线网GSM包括一个基站BTS、一个基站控制器BSC和一个移动交换中心MSC。移动交换中心MSC可与几个基站控制器相连。基站控制器BSC可与几个基站相连。基站BTS与综合业务数字网ISDN通过基站控制器BSC和移动交换中心MSC相连。
作为移动对象ZUG的一个实例可以选定一列火车的一节车厢。移动对象ZUG也可以是一辆机动车。火车车厢ZUG包括一个单元UNIT,用于接收通过基站BTS传送的无线信号,将这些无线信号转换为可由视频电话处理的信号,及将视频电话的信号转换为符合GSM标准的无线信号。火车车厢ZUG还包括一个视频电话TEL。
视频电话TEL对应于图1中的视频电话,不过它还包括一个芯片卡的插槽和一个读卡单元。通过读卡单元,视频电话TEL可以被锁住。当插槽中没有芯片卡时,视频电话就被锁上了。只有插入芯片卡CARD且卡上带有依视频服务器VOD而定的代码时,视频电话TEL才能被解锁,这样后者才能工作并与各自的视频服务器建立一个交换连接。依视频服务器(VOD)而定的代码包括各自的视频服务器(VOD)的拨号。该拨号通过读卡设备自动拨入,然后建立与各自的视频服务器(VOD)的交换连接。在视频影片的发送过程中,当前的费用可以显示在视频电话的屏幕上。
从视频电话TEL到视频服务器VOD的交换连接通过数字无线网GSM和综合业务数字网ISDN建立起来,该连接建立后可以选择视频影片并以与图1中的描述类似的方法传送该影片。
视频电话TEL可与椅背合并,这样火车旅客就可以很容易地操作电话了。
图3显示了一个字母数字键盘,它可以用于图1和图2中的视频电话。
在数字键2-0上还分配了字母A-Z。如数字2键分配字母A、B、C,数字6键分配字母M和N。每个视频服务器VOD都有一个视频服务器名。例如,一个视频服务器以一个电视组织的名称命名,“Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen”(Second German Television德国电视二台)。作为该视频服务器名的缩写,可以拨ZDF。如果用户想要建立与象ZDF这样的视频服务器VOD的交换连接,他(她)要拨服务号码加一个辅助号码,辅助号码依该视频服务器名的缩写而定。
例如要访问视频服务器VOD ZDF,用户要拨服务号0190加VODZDF,它与辅助号码803033相应,来建立与视频服务器VOD的连接。
如果用户经常在视频服务器VOD菜单上选择同样主题的号码,如100号最新新闻,他(她)在知道设定的号码后,也可以不经过菜单直接拨号选择一部视频影片。这样,用户就能通过在他(她)的视频电话上键入0190VOD CNN100看到来自CNN的视频服务器VOD的最新新闻,其相应的拨号数字为0190803226100。
两个实施例都使用了综合业务数字网ISDN,其中信息是在窄带通道内传送的。“窄带”意味着9.6kbps-2Mbps的传送能力。如果是在数字无线网上,9.6kbps的传送能力是不够用来传送选定的视频影片的,可以建立包括几个通道的交换连接以达到7×9.6kbps=67.3kbps的传送能力。

Claims (1)

1.一种用于传送视频信号的视频服务器(VOD),包括一个发送单元(SEN)、一个接收单元(EMP)、一个控制单元(CTRL)和一个存储器(MEMO),其中存储器(MEMO)可以存储一些视频信号,通过控制单元(CTRL)存储在存储器(MEMO)中的每一视频信号都可以被选择并送入发送单元(SEN),发送单元(SEN)和接收单元(EMP)都能连到综合业务数字网(ISDN)上,视频服务器(VOD)可以通过接收单元(EMP)被拨号访问以建立来自综合业务数字网(ISDN)的交换连接,且视频服务器(VOD)是通过拨叫由服务号码与辅助号码组成的一个号码被访问的,该辅助号码是由视频服务器名的缩写(ARD)而定,并且通过应答接收单元(EMP)接收的信号,存储的视频信号可以被选择并通过交换连接传送到综合业务数字网(ISDN)上。
