技术领域
本发明涉及打印机用纸和计算机打印机,尤其涉及打印机自动识别用纸的打印标记。
背景技术
对于不同类型的打印机用纸,例如一般纸,专用喷墨纸,涂纸及透明胶片,诸如喷墨打印机的计算机打印机常常采用不同的打印技术。根据用纸的特性,使用不同的打印算法来防止诸如彩墨流出的不良图像特征,其随用纸类型变化。
此外,一台确定的打印机可用于打印不同大小的用纸。在这种情况下,对打印与用纸大小相匹配的图像是有益的。这避免了逸出纸页边沿、要求两页纸或者不能按希望的那样印满整页纸的图像。而且,双面或双向打印要求在打印过程中仔细的手动重装用纸,同时由于纸叠误走向经常发生错误。
当聪明的用户适当建立纸张大小、类型和走向并且将其手动输入打印机内存或连接的计算机中时,希望能自动完成这些任务以简化操作和避免可能的错误。已经为存在的用纸提供了供打印机扫描的条形码识别数据。这些条形码一般提供于纸张双面的角空白处,并且用常规不可视荧光墨汁打印。响应打印机中红色发射器的发光,条形码墨汁发红外波长荧光,并且通过打印机中光扫描器读出。
一般打印机沿进给轴驱动纸张,并且有沿垂直扫描轴在纸张上往复运动的打印头底座。在一些打印机中,条形码传感器是静止的,并被安装到走纸路径边缘的打印机机座上。这种固定传感器容易屏蔽外部光,并且在底座开始往复运动之前随纸张开始沿进给轴进给时就可以读出条形码。对利用固定式传感器,纸张上条形码的线必须垂直于进给轴取向。在其它打印机中,传感器安装于底座之上,使它还能执行其它传感功能,例如用纸边缘检测和墨汁颜色对准过程。对底座安装传感器,用纸上的条形码线必须垂直于扫描轴取向。用于一种打印机传感器类型的条形码用纸没有必要兼容于另一种传感器类型,从而要求两种纸码类型的编目,和可能的用户混淆。
因为不适合于打印不可视条形码,透明胶片出现额外的复杂问题。为了打印上标记,可以在胶片空白处粘贴上纸条,但这种纸张限于只用在确定的打印机传感器类型。
发明内容
本发明通过提供双向可扫描的条形码图形克服了现有技术的限制,该图形具有交替着线和间距的平行阵列,每个线和间距具有选择的宽度。每个线有共同串的段和选择长度的段间距。每个段的长度可以和对应线的宽度相同,并且每个段间距的长度可以和线之间对应的间距的宽度相同。图形可以打印到一张打印机用纸上,或打印到贴于一纸张上的条上。

具体实施方式
图1表示其中已装有一张打印机用纸12的计算机打印机10。该打印机具有沿走纸路径进给纸张的用纸驱动机构14,并随纸张的运动定义了一个进给轴16。打印头底座20沿扫描轴22在导杆24上往复运动,并装有将墨滴排在用纸表面上的打印盒26。扫描轴垂直于进给轴。打印机含有安装在底座上的光传感器30a或者安装在打印机架上的固定式光传感器30b。布置每个光传感器阅读普通条形码。
底座安装传感器30a沿扫描轴具有高分辨率,以阅读垂直指向扫描轴的直线条形码符号。底座的运动使横在条形码线上的传感器移动以阅读该条形码。靠近用纸路径的边缘布置固定式传感器30b,并且伸出用纸以沿用纸边缘阅读条形码。借助沿进给轴的高分辨率,在用纸页相对传感器移动的同时,传感器阅读具有垂直指向供给轴之直线的条形码符号。
不管传感器位置,传感器可以是适合于阅读条形码的任何类型的传感器,例如是照亮或检测小点的传感器,或者是照亮或检测与一般条形码直线平行的窄线的传感器。在优选实例中,传感器设置发光并传感检测用“不可视墨汁”打印在用纸上的图形,该“不可见墨汁”响应红色发射体的发光而发出红外线荧光。可以采用所选择的不可视墨汁,也可以使用可见墨汁或其它可检测到特性的东西。
尽管打印机传感器可以为不同的选择结构,用纸张12用图形32进行编码,该图形可以通过任何一种类型的传感器进行检测,而不管该纸张的走向。图形是沿纸张前沿长度延伸的细长条。在选择的实例中,图形可以打印在纸张的一面或双面的某些或整个页边缘上,或者打印在纸张的选定空白位置,例如角上。图形可以由许多相同的元素构成,以便由阅读纸张任何部分的传感器读出相同的信息。作为选择,图形可以具有打印在纸张不同部分上的不同的图形,用以区分纸张页面或者区分前沿和后沿,以确保适当的半手动的双向打印。
图2展示了打印在用纸张边沿的图形32或者条34的细节。对于纸,该图形直接打印在用纸上;对于透明软片,该图形打印于粘贴在透明软片边沿的纸条上。图形包括小间距的图形元素或者瓦状元素(tile)36的重复线性阵列,相间具有分离元素37。图形元素彼此邻近,且以平行于纸张或条的边缘的直线对准。瓦状元素36具有双向条形码,这在下面将说明,同时分离元素37仅在平行于图形32长度的整个行中具有常规条形码方式的条形码线。
因此,底座安装扫描器通过探测跟随一部分识别列的非打印列而能够识别出瓦状元素编码图形的开始。在图示例中,尽管可以使用其它图形,瓦状元素码开始于初始的“1,0”识别符。固定式传感器阅读分离瓦状元素37,这同阅读双向编码瓦状元素36一样容易,使得不要求带传感器的图形32的对准。
图3示出单瓦状元素36,其包含有在各个正交方向可扫描的编码值。在图示实例中,瓦状元素是10×10的方形象素的矩阵。尽管为清楚示出了象素之间的间距,象素最好彼此邻近。各象素可以是非打印的,用“0”值表示,或是打印的,用“1”值表示。各行和列或者具有全部非打印象素,或者具有对应编码值例如是“1,0,1,0,1,1,0,1,1,1”情况,按共同顺序的可选择打印和未打印象素。这种要求的结果,如果其顺序位置对应编码次序中的“0”,则行或列就全部保留成未打印。编码算法也可以按要求表示成只有当其列和行顺序位置都对应着编码次序上的“1”值时象素才应当是打印的。由于行和列都要经过相同的编码规则,图形关于从象素(1,1)连接至象素(10,10)的对角轴40对称。
各打印列被称作打印线,并由常规狭缝传感器读出,即使该线被分成一系列的线段,其中有些可以是单个象素点的话也是如此。未打印列和行作为未打印线。图形元素或瓦状元素被展示成具有均匀节距之象素的矩阵,具有整数倍节距的线或线段宽度。另外,按常规条形码的形式,该宽度和间距可以在可检测值的范围变化,以编码更多的信息。在任何情况下,该图形元素与下述是概念等同的,即打印具有90度偏移、相互重叠、并且去掉除通过两个图形被打印的地方之外的全部打印的两个相同条形码图形。另一个概念等同是从全打印瓦状元素开始,并在各方向去掉要求有间距的条。在可选实例中,如果其行或列或两者都具有“1”值,该瓦状元素可产生于被打印的各象素。代替未打印区上的点和虚线,该图形可以是由未打印点和虚线孔分的密集打印块。这种方法是不希望的,因为一般的瓦状元素其有大约75%的打印,替之以图示实例的25%打印瓦状元素。
在可选实例中,各瓦状元素可在不同的轴用不同的编码打印。其一个实例可包括有在各方向上的相同纸大小的码,但不同走向指示器用于打印机控制器确定用纸如何安装。瓦状元素不需为方形,可为矩形,具有相互成正比但不须相互相等的线宽和间距宽度。
图4中,用纸12是透明软胶片,具有粘附在一个边缘的图形条34。该条用图形32连续地打印,并可以从连续打印条卷筒42中拉出,该连续打印条卷筒42具有适合于为大量纸张提供条的长度。由于不要求图形对准,公开图形很好地适于预备用纸的这种方法。长带极可能产生积聚在长卷筒上的线性尺寸变化,使得精确截取和对准不可能。横在条长度方向扫描条的打印机(例如在固定式传感器打印机中)对条的位置是完全不灵敏的;底座安装扫描器开始工作直到其找到第一个或者任何完整的图形元素。因不精确截取或不对准导致的部分图形元素将不会有有害影响。
图形将用于带有狭缝型传感器的任何打印机,该狭缝型传感器探测出最好小于或等于一个象素宽、如果图形算法限于不超过一个连续“0”值就至少为两个象素长、如果容许连续零值就更长的区域。然而,该图形还可通过圆形或方形点扫描,该圆形或方形点要比非打印“0”值的最宽可能的狭条大的多,以确保狭条中心的点将探测出邻近的打印线,确定它们的打印和非打印的线段。
尽管上面根据优选的和可选的实例做了讨论,但本发明并不受限于此。例如,图形是根据打印和非打印部分讨论的,这些根据仅用作说明而已。可以使用由传感器可探测到的任何可选择的特性。具有不同反射率或发射特性的打印墨汁是优选的实例(具有图中代表有较多的发射荧光墨汁的黑色部分)。可供选择的有用纸质地、外形、电荷、磁特性、或者任何其它可检测值。在任何实例中,代表“1”值和代表“0”值的特性是可转换的,因而那些被说明为“打印”的区域事实上是裸用纸,而被说明为“非打印”的区域则相对于用纸表面具有所用的或区分特性的物质。

Claims (10)

1.一种制造一张打印机用纸(12)的方法,包括:
提供纸张;
沿所述纸张边缘产生一个编码图形(32);
所述编码图形包括一个图形元素(36),该图形元素具有一个交替的线性非打印部分和打印部分的阵列,各个打印部分和非打印部分具有从一个宽度范围选取的一个选择宽度;
各图形元素的打印部分和非打印部分以一个平行阵列取向,每个打印部分和每个非打印部分沿垂直于所述纸张长边缘表面部分的长度方向取向;
每个打印部分包括一个长条,该长条包括一串相间着的打印段和非打印段;
每个打印段和非打印段具有从一个长度范围选取的一个选择长度;并且
其中,所述打印部分和非打印部分的宽度顺序对应于所述打印段和非打印段的长度顺序。
2.根据权利要求1所述的制造一张打印用纸的方法,其特征在于,产生图形编码图形包括:在长条(34)上打印一连续串的图形元素,其具有至少大于纸张边缘部分之长度若干倍的长度,以及将一段条粘贴在纸张上。
3.根据权利要求1或2所述的制造一张打印用纸的方法,其特征在于,每个图形元素相对于对称轴(40)是对称的,该对称轴(40)是对打印部分和对边沿表面部分的对角线。

5.一种双向可扫描条形码图形(36),包括:
交替的长的第一部分和第二部分的平行阵列;
每个第一部分具有一个第一光学特性,每个第二部分具有一个可识别的第二光学特性;
每个第一部分和每个第二部分具有从一个宽度范围选取的各自的一个选择宽度;
每个第一部分包括具有共同的一串交替的第一段和第二段的长条;
每个第一段具有所述第一光学特性,每个第二段具有所述第二光学特性;
每个第一段和每个第二段具有一个选择长度;
所述串中的各第一段的长度等于阵列中在对应位置处对应于第一部分的宽度;以及
所述串中的各第二段的长度等于阵列中在对应位置处对应于第二部分的宽度。
6.根据权利要求5所述的图形,其特征在于,所述图形是相对于对角线轴(40)对称的。
