背景技术
近几年，各种新式的电视、无线通信、以及网络节目传输，如广播都得到很大发展。例如，数字有线电视和卫星系统可以同时提供数以百计的具有一定的质量和特色的节目频道。类似的，用户可以通过有线系统参加网上各种各样的日益增多的交互式活动，如游戏、购物、聊天等。甚至通过传统的天线接收系统，许多地区就能获得多种收看和收听的选择，并且随着数字广播的进一步推广，各频道节目的特色和种类将更加丰富。
很多用户可能还不能拥有能够充分享受目前已经实现的或将要实现的各种媒体特性的娱乐设备。例如，音频媒体特性可能包含单声道、立体声以及各种类型的多声道环绕立体声。但用户的电视可能并不具有立体声或环绕立体声的输出能力，在这种情况下，用来广播高品质音频的附加带宽就被浪费了。
还有些用户可能对不同种广播类型的媒体特性要求不同，例如，用户在听新闻广播时并不会在乎新闻是否是立体声，而同一个用户在看电影时可能希望电影具有环绕立体声的效果。
以上各种例子可以看出，用户可能希望只是为他们所需要的媒体特性效果付费，他们也可能愿意多付一些费用得到较高品质的媒体特性效果。因此，人们需要一种改进的方法和设备，通过付费购买可得到所需的媒体特性效果。
发明内容
本发明提供一种在节目传输中实现通过付费购买得到所需媒体特性效果的改进的方法和设备。用户请求购买具有升级的媒体特性效果的节目传送的选择指令被送至服务器系统，服务器系统自动向一节目传输源购买所需的媒体特性效果，该节目传输源则向用户提供该媒体特性效果。具体的，一套娱乐系统应包括一可实现用户选择节目传输系统传送所需的升级媒体特性效果的用户界面，用户所需的具有升级的媒体特性效果的节目将被提供至该娱乐系统中。

具体实施方式
图1示出本发明的系统结构原理图。本发明的用户可通过付费购买而得到升级的媒体特性效果。例如，客户端系统110的用户在申请付费观看电影时可以通过付额外的费用而得到具有高品质视频效果和/或具有数字杜比环绕立体声而不是单声道音质的电影。
升级的媒体特性效果包括，但并不局限于，大量不同类型的音频、视频、以及交互式效果。例如，视频分辨率可以提高，这尤其体现在数字传输中，例如广播中，可以从一视频点播的节目源中得到，例如广播源。一个广播源可以在一个数字频道中同时发送多路广播信号。例如，视频点播的广播源可以在同一地区有近200个频道，每一频道可同时容纳近20路广播信号，当同时被容纳的广播信号路数增加时，视频信号的视频质量就会下降。因此，如果用户付更多的费用，其所接收的广播信号所在的频道就可以只有比较少的广播信号。
在一个实施例中，这种媒体特性效果的提高能力是有一定范围的。如缺省的视频分辨率可以选择为最低可能的分辨率，此时一个频道中有最多数目的同时广播信号。而最佳提高效果时分辨率应该是最大可能的分辨率，此时一个频道中只有一路广播信号。特定的电视机由于其本身分辨率不高，因此它可能不能充分的体现出最高可能的分辨率水平。在这种情况下，可以建立一种或多种可供大多数型号电视显示的中档的显示分辨率模式。分辨率每提高一个档次，传输时就需要更多的带宽相适应，因此费用也相应分辨率档次的提高而增加。
我们可以想到和使用类似的方法来应用于多种广播源的不同媒体特性。另外，用户也可以为更好的实现交互式行为而付费。例如，数以百计的竞争者可以通过互联网、电缆连接、卫星通信同时在一个虚拟的三维环境中进行虚拟历险，对于每一个竞争者，都需要一定的处理带宽来提供视频和音频信号以及跟踪处理虚拟人物的移动和动作等。游戏者为得到更高质量的媒体特性如更好的视频清晰度、音频质量、游戏者之间的实时对话等而付费。这种媒体特性水平每提高一个档次都是以牺牲更多的带宽为代价的，相应的，也必须付出更高的费用。
另一种可能升级的媒体特性是每次记录每次收费的媒体特性。例如，数字电视以一种只能观看不能记录的模式进行传送，因此记录的文件会被损坏。在这种情况下，用户可以付费得到可记录的广播模式。
如图1所示，用户在客户端系统110选择升级某一广播的一种或多种媒体特性，该选择信号通过通信媒介120被输出至服务器系统140中，服务器系统140自动对升级的媒体特性进行计费，并通过广播源130自动协调提供这些媒体特性。一个或多个服务器系统可以与大量的用户系统110挂接。例如，服务器系统140可以按照地区分布，而每一地区可以包括数以千计的客户端系统110。
通信媒介120代表各种类型的传输媒介。例如，通信媒介120包括UHF/VHF无线传输、双绞电话线、光纤、同轴电缆、有线电视传输线、卫星天线无线传输、计算机网络通信如互联网或广域网，局域网等。客户端系统110、广播源130以及服务器系统140之间的通信可以通过上述通信媒介120所包含的媒介的不同组合来实现。例如客户端系统110和服务器系统140之间可以通过互联网来实现通信，服务器系统140和广播源130之间可以直接通过电话线来实现通信，而广播源130可以通过卫星天线与客户端系统实现通信。大量其它的组合和变换方式都可以在此应用。
广播源130包括各种数字和模拟的音频、视频以及交互式数据源。例如，广播源130包括通过普通的天线接收信号的地方电视台和广播电台、通过小型的抛物面卫星天线接收信号的电视台和广播电台、通过同轴电缆接收信号的电视台和广播电台、互联网上的交互式网页等。多种广播也可以同时从广播源中被接收。例如，用户可以同时接收交互式广播如游戏、音频广播如音乐等。
图2所示为客户端系统110的系统结构图。如下面关于图6之所述，客户端系统110为一娱乐系统包括许多组成部分。具体的，这些组成部分包括用户界面210、节目数据库220以及调谐系统230。用户界面210包括各种输出设备中的任一种，如用于提示用户可选择一种或多种可选升级的媒体特性服务以及对应每种升级服务所需的费用的显示装置和/或音频装置。用户界面210同时包括各种输入设备如鼠标、跟踪球、键盘、声音识别装置等的任一种。用户可以通过输入设备选择所需的一种或多种升级服务。
用户界面和服务器系统140、节目数据库220以及调谐系统230之间也有数据通信。用户界面210可从节目数据库220中得知何种广播能实现何种升级服务，具体的，节目数据库220包括一个节目向导，用于按照时间和频道对每种广播进行列表。在该节目向导中，对应每种广播可实现的升级服务相应的和该广播列表在一起。
节目数据库220可以按照固定的方式进行更新。例如新的节目信息可以每日或每周从相应的数据源中进行下载，并存储在节目数据库220中。在本系统中，客户端系统110通过互联网每日从广播源130中自动接收更新节目信息。
调谐系统230包括调谐器、接收器、解码器等，通过通信媒介120与广播源130相连。例如，具体的，调谐系统230包括一用于特定的付费有线频道的解码器，一个UHF/VHF调谐器、一个数字电视接收器以及一个卫星电视接收器。
图3示出服务器系统140的系统结构图。服务器系统140包括处理服务器系统310和收费服务器系统320。处理服务器系统310通过通信媒介120收到从客户端系统110发来的选择指令。该选择指令表明所需的某种广播的一种或多种媒体特性升级服务以及每种升级服务所需的费用。处理服务器系统310将该费用信息输入到收费服务器系统320中，并向各个广播源或广播源130所包含的数据源发出指令，使其向客户端系统110提供相应的媒体特性升级服务。

在一个实施例中，收费服务器320存储了客户的信用卡信息和对应各用户账户330的消费信息。收费服务器320可以在用户的账户上按每次交易计费或者按收费周期进行计费，每个收费周期包含数次交易。收费服务器320可以在用户账户上直接收取全部费用，然后将收据送至广播源130。最后收费服务器320会从广播源130处定期收到回报。例如，收费服务器320每月对几千用户进行收费，但每月只从每家广播源收取一次它们各自给它的回报。
或者，收费服务器320只在用户账户上对服务器系统140所提供的服务收费。在此情况下，收费服务器320将用户费用信息或用户识别数据提供给各广播源130，这样各广播源就可以直接向用户收费。

在另一个实施例中，图1-3中的一个或多个组件部分都可以被合并，重新组合，和/或被去掉。改变后的结构中可能包括许多其它如图6中所述的组件。

图6示出包括客户端系统110的娱乐系统的方框结构图。系统600包括电视/显示装置602、视频记录装置/重放装置606、数字视频光盘(DVD、包括通用的数字多功能光盘)记录装置/重放装置614、音频/视频调谐器和/或功放610、音频重放/记录装置622、以及激光唱片(CD)播放机612，所有这些都与通用输入输出总线(I/O)608相联。在这种方框图中，通用输入输出(I/O)总线608的使用使输入输出设备扩展得以容易的实现。例如，音频的输入输出可以通过布置联接适量的临时电路实现，视频信号可以用布置联接同轴电缆实现，控制信号可以布置联接双股串行线或通过红外(IR)通信信号或无线(RF)通信信号来实现。进一步的，音频、视频和/或控制信号也可通过依据国际串行总线规定1.0版(1996.1.15)，或IEEE高级实用串行标准1394、IEEE标准1394-1995、草案8.0V3(1995.12.12)来实现.
另外，系统600还包括扬声器系统616、麦克风618、摄像机620以及无线输入/输出控制装置632。具体的，无线输入/输出控制装置632是一娱乐系统遥控单元，它利用红外信号与系统600的组件进行通信。在另一实施例中，无线输入/输出控制装置632可以为无线键盘和/或光标控制装置，它通过红外信号或无线信号与系统600的组件进行通信。在又一实施例中，无线输入/输出控制装置632可以为在外观上与典型的娱乐系统的遥控装置相类似的红外或无线遥控装置，但它具有附加的跟踪球或其它光标控制机械结构的部件，能使用户在显示系统600上定位光标。
系统600中的核心部件是与本发明中其它部件一体化的系统控制器604，它被设定来控制系统中不同的部件。如下所述，系统控制器604根据需要通过输入/输出总线608与系统任一部件相联接。具体的，系统控制器604可以附加于或者替换输入输出总线608，通过无线通信发射器(或收发器)进行配置，该无线通信发射器(或收发器)可以通过红外或无线电信号608’与其它系统组件进行通信。不论控制媒介如何，系统控制器604都被设定控制系统600的每一娱乐系统组件，尽管每一系统组件都是通过无线输入/输出设备632分别进行控制的。
系统控制器604从多种不同的数据源得到并存储娱乐节目信息。在系统600工作时，系统控制器604对系统600的运行参数进行动态配置，并提供额外的特色功能来提高用户使用系统600时所得到的乐趣。具体的，系统控制器604可以是与如下图7所述的本发明的教学相结合的计算机系统。在另一实施例中，系统控制器604可以是一机顶盒，它具有必要的数据处理能力，可以和本发明的教学相结合。在任何情况下，系统控制器604还可以被认为是一集成娱乐系统的“中央系统”，并作为一计算机平台使本发明相对于其它发明达到更好的效果。
本发明虽然以附图相关内容作为实施例说明，但本发明并不局限于这些实施例，还可以采用其它变换形式。因此，本发明的创新点可以应用于其它比附图6所示系统更复杂或更简单的系统中。作为实施例，系统600既可以增加外设，也可以将某些设备(如摄像机620、麦克风618、DVD记录/重放设备614等)从系统600中去掉。
如图6所示，系统600可以从大量不同数据源接收到音频/视频节目输入。具体的，系统600可从以下任一或全部数据源中接收节目信号：有线广播624、卫星广播626(如通过卫星接收器)、甚高频(VHF)或超高频(UHF)射频通信广播网634(如通过天线)，和/或电话/计算机网络接口628。进一步的，有线广播624输入、卫星广播626输入、及VHF/UHF射频输入634可以为模拟和/或数字节目信号如高清晰度电视(HDTV)。另外，音频/视频节目信号也可以通过系统100所述的重放装置(如DVD记录/重放装置614)从CD-ROM、DVD或其它数字或模拟存储设备中得到。其它如用户界面628的互联网、娱乐网络或其它网络也可以提供音频/视频节目信号。
除节目输出外，系统600还可具有一定的控制输出630，实现控制一定数目的外设。具体的，例如，当系统控制器604控制系统600播放一电影时，它同时可以降低室内的灯光亮度到某一特定水平，从而提高观看效果。控制电路可以用一计算机设备来控制，例如，灯光、温度调节装置。其它家用电器(通过，如室内电线布线)都是公知的手段，这里不再赘述。
除了如前所述的集成教学外，系统控制器604代表着多种类型的计算机设备。例如，这种计算机设备为一台式计算机。该计算机具有一高性能的中央处理器，如美国加利福尼亚Santa Clara英特尔公司出品的奔腾处理器、奔腾PRO处理器、奔腾II处理器。再如，该计算机设备为一网络用户机，例如微软的WEBTVTM网络终端机，该机可从新泽西Park Ridge索尼电子有限公司或田纳西州诺克斯维尔的菲利浦消费者电子公司购得。这些设备可以根据房间的大小以及系统控制器604的设计加以改变，从而更好的适应系统600。
图6所示的娱乐系统组件还可以优化结合。例如，系统控制器604可以集成入电视/显示装置602，DVD记录/重放装置614或音频/视频调谐器和功放610。
图7所示为配合图6所示的系统控制器604的计算机设备。如图7所示，设备700包括互相结合的处理器702和高速缓冲存储器704。另外，设备700还包括高性能输入/输出总线706和标准输入/输出总线708。主桥路710联接处理器702和高性能输入/输出总线706，两条总线706和708通过输入/输出总线桥路712联接。总线706上联接有网络/通信接口设备724和系统内存714。总线708上联接有大容量存储器720、键盘/定位装置722以及输入/输出端口726。综上所述，这些设备代表了各类硬件设备，包括了但并不局限于基于美国加利福尼亚Santa Clara英特尔公司出品的奔腾处理器、奔腾PRO处理器、奔腾II处理器的计算机系统。
具体的，还有许多其它电子设备可以与高性能输入/输出总线706相联。如图所示，模拟调谐器/数字卫星/有线设备728也可与高性能输入/输出总线706相联，从而使设备700得以调谐至不同的节目频道。
设备702-728用于实现它们的公知功能。特别是，网络/通信接口设备724可以使设备700和广大的通用网络建立通信联系。例如，以太网、令牌环、互联网等。接口设备724的具体电路根据设备700所联接的网络的类型而不同。
大容量存储器720用于永久存储实现上述功能的数据和程序指令。而系统内存714用于对处理器702操作中使用到的数据和程序指令进行临时存储。输入/输出端口726用于对可能附加于设备700的外围设备提供一个或多个串行和/或并行接口。
设备700的组件可以以多种方式重新组合。例如，高速缓冲存储器704可以为处理器702的插件，高速缓冲存储器704和处理器702也可以被封装在一起作为一“处理器模块”，此时处理器702被称为“处理器核心”。此外，本发明特定实施例中并不一定要求具有上述全部组件。例如，大容量存储器720、键盘和定位装置722和/或网络/通信接口接口装置724都可以在设备700中省去。另外，与标准输入/输出总线708相联的外围设备也可以与高性能输入/输出总线706相联；在某些实施例方案中，只有一个总线，此时设备700的组件可能只与该总线相联。此外，设备700还会包含其它一些组件，如另外的处理器、存储设备、总线或内存。
具体的，图6所示的系统控制器604被图7所示的设备700作为软件程序来应用。这些软件程序包括一系列大量的指令，需要硬件系统的处理器如图7所示的处理器702来执行。首先，这一系列指令存储于永久存储设备中，例如大容量存储器720。它们也可以存储于任何常规存储介质中，如磁盘、CD-ROM、磁带、DVD、激光影碟、ROM、快速内存等。这些指令也不须存储于本地存储器中，它们可以通过网络/通信接口接口装置724从远程存储装置中被接收，如作为网络的一台服务器。这些指令被从永久存储设备如中大容量永久存储设备720复制至内存714中，然后由处理器702访问执行。具体的，这些软件程序由C++程序语言来编写，也可以由任意其他程序语言来编写。
在另一实施例中，本发明以分立式硬件或固件形式实现。例如，一个或多个专用集成电路(ASICs)可以根据本发明上述所述功能来编程实现。又如，系统控制器604可以通过将附加电路板插入图7所示硬件系统700中形成多种ASICs来实现。
图8所示为配合服务器系统140的计算机系统800。如图所示，计算机系统800包括与系统内存814相联的处理器802和通过高性能总线806相联的输入/输出总线桥路812。输入/输出总线桥路812又通过输入/输出总线808与用户输入/输出模块820、广播源输入/输出模块830以及计费输入/输出模块840相联。在另一实施例中，图8中的一个或多个组件可以以其它方式重新组合。例如，输入/输出模块820、830和840可以组合为一个单独的输入/输出模块。在另一个实施例中，还可以增加其它一些组件，如另外的总线、处理器、内存等。
在所示实施例中，系统内存814用来存储实现服务器系统140的上述各种功能时处理器802所需的数据和程序指令。开始时，这些指令可以存储于任何常规存储介质中，如磁盘、CD-ROM、磁带、DVD、激光影碟、ROM、快速内存等。然后指令被调至系统内存814中。这些指令不须存储于本地存储器中，它们可以从远程存储装置中被接收，如网络上的一台服务器。根据这些指令，处理器802通过输入/输出模块820、830或840实现与各部分之间的通信，以此来协调实现如前所述的升级的媒体特性的收费功能。
在另一实施例中，服务器系统110的功能可以以分立式硬件或固件形式实现。例如，一个或多个特定用途集成电路(ASICs)可以根据本发明服务器系统110的所述功能来编程实现。又如，可以通过将附加电路板插入计算机系统800中形成多种ASICs来实现。
综上所述，本发明实现了一种付费购买广播媒体特性的改进的方法和设备，本领域技术人员可以通过阅读本发明所述的技术方案对本发明进行补充和改变，但本发明并不局限于所述的技术方案。因此，本发明所述的实施例将不会局限本发明权利要求的范围。

Claims (20)

1.一种选择关于娱乐节目的升级媒体特性的方法，该方法包括：
接收关于多个不同娱乐节目和与每个娱乐节目有关的多个不同的升级媒体特性的信息；
在一个用户终端处显示一个娱乐节目列表和对于每个娱乐节目的多个不同的升级媒体特性；
将一个娱乐节目选择和由显示的多个媒体特性中选择的一个或多个升级媒体特性一起发送给一个娱乐节目提供者；
接收所选择的娱乐节目和所选择的升级的媒体特性。
2.如权利要求1所述方法中，其特征在于：接收信息的步骤包括：接收关于多个不同的升级的媒体特性中每一个媒体特性的费用的信息，其中显示步骤包括显示这些费用。
3.如权利要求1所述方法，还包括：
通过一个用户终端接收来自一个用户的一个娱乐选择和一个升级媒体特性的选择；和其中
发送这些选择的步骤包括发送所接收的来自用户的选择。
4.如权利要求3所述方法，其特征在于，用户的选择可以通过对用户红外线发射机所发送的信号进行翻译来接收。
5.如权利要求1所述方法，其特征在于，多个不同的升级的媒体特性包括视频解析度升级、音频质量升级、音频信道升级、可记录版本、和对于交互式事务的增加的存取速率中的至少一个特性。
6.如权利要求1所述方法，其特征在于：接收信息的步骤包括接收关于对于多个不同升级媒体特性的可用节目传输源的信息，而其中显示步骤包括显示这些节目传输源的指示信息。
7.如权利要求6所述方法，其特征在于：所述节目传输源包括至少一个本地电视台、本地无线电台、卫星广播站、同轴电缆广播站、和在互联网上的交互站点。
8.如权利要求7所述方法，其特征在于：所述节目传输源还包括录像带、视频光盘和音频光盘中的至少一种。
9.如权利要求1所述方法，其特征在于：所述接收信息的步骤包括接收来自与多个节目传输源相连接的服务器系统的信息，而其中发送选择的步骤包括将选择发送给服务器系统。
10.如权利要求9所述方法，其特征在于：所述接收所选择的娱乐节目的步骤包括接收来自多个节目传输源之一的具有所选择的升级媒体特性的所选择的娱乐节目。
11.如权利要求10所述方法，其特征在于：所述升级的媒体特性包括视频升级、音频升级、可记录版本、和对于交互式事务的增加的存取速率中的至少一个特性。
12.如权利要求1所述方法，其特征在于：接收所选择的娱乐节目的步骤包括接收来自多个节目传输源之一的所选择的娱乐节目，而该多个节目传输源包括有线电视、天线接收、卫星接收、微型抛物面卫星接收、电话拨号服务、互联网接入中的至少一种。
13.如权利要求1所述方法，其特征在于：接收所选择的娱乐节目的步骤包括接收来自多个节目传输源中一个合适的节目传输源的令牌，该令牌使得可以接收所选择的具有升级媒体特性的娱乐节目。
14.一种方法，该方法包括：
发送关于多个不同娱乐节目和与每个娱乐节目有关的多个不同的升级的媒体特性的信息给多个客户端系统；
接收来自多个客户端系统中至少一个客户端系统的娱乐节目选择和一个或多个升级的媒体特性选择；
为该客户端系统提供接入以接收所选择的具有所选择的升级媒体特性的娱乐节目。
15.如权利要求14所述方法中，其特征在于：提供接入的步骤包括指示多个节目传输源中的至少一个节目传输源发送所选择的具有该升级媒体特性的媒体节目给该客户端系统。
16.如权利要求14所述方法中，其特征在于：提供接入的步骤包括提供一个来自多个节目传输源中一个适当的节日传输源的令牌给该客户端系统，该令牌使得该客户端系统可以接收所选择的具有升级特性的娱乐节目。
17.如权利要求14所述方法中，其特征在于：发送信息的步骤包括发送关于多个不同升级媒体特性的费用的信息。
18.如权利要求14所述方法中，其特征在于：所述多个不同升级的媒体特性包括视频解析度升级、音频质量升级、音频信道升级、可记录版本、和对于交互式事务的增加的存取速率中的至少一个特性。
19.如权利要求14所述方法中，其特征在于：发送信息的步骤包括发送关于对于该多个不同媒体特性的可用节目传输源的信息。
20.如权利要求19所述方法中，其特征在于：所述节目传输源包括至少一个本地电视台、本地无线电台、卫星广播器、同轴电缆广播器、和在互联网上的交互站点。
