本发明涉及电视领域，具体地说，涉及用于在电视观看方式和节目引导方式之间进行转换的方法和装置，其中视频节目和相关文本同时在电视屏幕上显示。
若干年来电视接收机就具有画中画(PIP)功能。在PIP格式中，一个电视频道的运动的实时的图像在屏幕的背景上显示，另一个电视频道的运动的实时的图像在叠加于背景的一个小的区域上的PIP窗口中被显示。因为两个频道同时被电视接收机显示，所以需要两个调谐器。观众通过按下遥控器上的PIP按钮进入PIP方式。然后，观众可以通过重新设置合适的调谐器来改变背景的频道或PIP的频道。为了转换背景图像和PIP图像，观众简单地按下SWAP按钮。为了取消PIP窗口，观众再次按下PIP按钮。
电视节目引导帮助电视观众选择要观看的节目。这种电视节目引导按照星期几、时间、频道和节目标题列出可观看的电视节目。许多年来，电视节目引导以硬拷贝形式公布。近来，如Levine的专利4,908,713所述，电子节目引导开始采取电子形式。换句话说，在和电视接收机相连的电子存储器中存储节目一览表。按照观众的命令把节目表从存储器中调出供在电视屏幕上显示。
尽管流行电视节目引导，但是许多观众仍然通过使电视调谐器从一个频道转换到另一个频道并在屏幕上观看各个频道正在接收的节目来选择节目。这个过程有时被称为“瞬发(grazing)”。
Emanuel的专利5,161,019披露了一种频道瞬发的自动化形式。一个预先选择的频道组通过使电视接收机的调谐器逐个频道地转换而被按照顺序扫描。在每个频道上接收的节目的静止图像被存储在存储器中。在所有频道被扫描之后，所有频道的静止图像被同时在电视屏幕上显示。除去可以从电视节目引导获得的信息之外，这个过程给予观众更多的关于节目选择的信息，即所显示的实际节目的静止图像。

该系统提供从引导方式返回LCF的几种选择：观众可以把光标放在节目表中的最后频道上，然后按下“引导/电视”按钮；可以指定LCF作为当退出引导方式时系统自动调谐到的缺省频道；或者可以按下遥控器上的“最后频道”按钮，从而控制系统自动地退出引导方式并同时使系统调谐到LCF。
在另一个实施例中，系统使用两个调谐器，一个用于电视观看方式，另一个在引导方式下被PIP芯片使用。在引导方式下，电视调谐器保持调谐到LCF。这样，当观众再次选择电视观看方式时，就全屏显示正在LCF上电视广播的节目。

上述的每个参考申请都描述了一种包括电子电视节目引导(EPG)的电视系统，其中电视节目的运动图像在电视监视器的屏幕上的PIP窗口中被显示，关于电视节目的文本信息在屏幕的背景中被显示。最好是，在PIP窗口内显示的电视节目的音频部分也由电视监视器的声音系统重放。文本信息被这样设置在屏幕上，使得其不被运动图像所覆盖。

为了能够观看表中列出的将来广播的节目而又不错过观看当前正在观看的节目，观众可以使用PIP格式在背景中显示节目表数据库中的一个特定频道或者一个特定时间的电视节目列表，并在PIP窗口内显示在该频道上的当前节目的运动的实时的图像。具体地说，当观众改变频道时，在该频道上的当前的节目便自动地出现在PIP窗口内。此外，将来广播的表中列出的节目可以按种类排列。观众可以控制背景使其显示在将来几天例如一星期内的节目列表。用这种方式，观众可以在确定电视调谐器所调谐的频道上的将来的节目的同时继续观看电视节目。当观众找到要观看的电视节目时，背景便消失，在整个屏幕上剩下调谐器所调谐到的频道上的节目。
在从电视观看方式转换到引导方式的过程中，经过在引导方式中可利用的各种引导进行导航和在该引导下的频道瞬发，观众可能忘记在进入引导方式之前正在观看哪个频道。因而，需要向观众提供一种简单的方法，用于返回在进入引导方式之前正在观看的最后的频道而不依赖于观众的记忆，并且不必在引导方式下通过各种引导导航以便在回到电视观看方式时识别和进入那个频道。按照本发明的电视系统向观众提供最后频道恢复特征，该特征使观众能够从引导方式返回全屏显示的最后频道。
图1是具有EPG的电视接收机的原理方块图。这种接收机和上述参考专利申请中的相同，包括参考标号在内，并具有附加的最后频道寄存器34。微处理器24被编程以便执行下述的功能。虽然最后频道寄存器34在功能上是一个独立的部件，但是，它可以合并在微处理器24的随机存取存储器(RAM)中，图中没有示出。类似地，光标位置寄存器32和节目表存储器22也可以位于微处理器24的RAM中。当接收机处于电视观看方式时，调谐器11被调谐到的频道被存储在寄存器34中。每当调谐器11被设置到一个新的频道，在寄存器34中的最后频道数据便被更新。一般地说，在寄存器34中只存储国家频道名或识别符，例如CBS,HBO,CNN。地方频道号码从频道图形存储器中检索，以便在屏幕上显示。

在节目表存储器22中，节目列表按照星期几、时间和频道编码，使得它们当需要对视频处理器30提供节目表信息以便构成节目列表和节目说明时可以被微处理器24访问。微处理器24具有实时时钟(未示出)，时钟的时间和当日的时间以及星期代码日期比较，从而选择用于SURF引导的节目列表。光标位置寄存器32的功能存储区域被变换为视频处理器30的存储区域，在视频处理器30中构成节目表以便在背景区域40上显示，使得光标位置寄存器32指向屏幕的该区域，因而指向被光标48加亮的特定的节目。与此同时，微处理器24操作开关18，使得调谐器11的输出直接和PIP芯片19的一个输入相连，并使PIP芯片19转换为PIP方式，从而来自调谐器11的输入被在PIP窗口42内显示，来自视频处理器30的节目表在背景40内显示。当进入SURF引导时，微处理器24检测调谐器被设置到的频道，并开始把光标48定位在该频道上广播的节目列表上。当观众移动光标控制键组的上下箭头时，调谐器11被复位，因而通过微处理器24向视频处理器30输入新的节目表信息，以便重构节目列表，使得光标48保持为可见的，并且节目说明保持当前的。通过比较在寄存器32中的光标位置和相应于视频处理器30的加亮区域的频道，得到加亮节目的频道，并与微处理器24相连接。然后，微处理器24把调谐器11设置到这个频道上。所述的方式有助于由观众进行频道瞬发。当观众找到想要观看的电视节目时便离开EPG。结果，微处理器24使PIP芯片19退出PIP方式，使得从调谐器11输入的视频节目被全屏显示。
微处理器24被配置用于检索最后频道寄存器34中的数据，并把检索的数据送到视频处理器30，以便当观众进入引导方式时作为最后频道列表45被插入图2所示的格式显示中。应当注意，不需要检索相关的标题数据，因为节目被简单地识别为“(Last Channel)”。对于同一频道的列表也在具有标题信息的节目列表中以其有规律的顺序被显示。
按照本最佳实施例，当从电视观看方式进入引导方式时，系统自动地显示SURF引导(图2)。微处理器24被配置用于把光标48定位在最后频道列表45上，并在PIP窗口42内将正在最后频道上广播的节目，即在KCOP13上显示的“The Cosby Show”作为实时视频图像显示。在操作中，为了在PIP窗口42内显示不同的频道，观众把光标48移动到区域46中的不同的项。例如，为了观看在FOX频道11上的“Married WithChildren”，光标48把该项加亮，并且微处理器24被配置使得把调谐器11设置在该频道上。
虽然系统处于引导方式中，但是在最后频道寄存器34中的数据不变。微处理器24被配置使得把调谐器11设置到由光标48标识的频道上。当观众从引导方式返回电视观看方式时，调谐器11的设置没有改变，因此在标题43下最后显示的节目被全屏显示。因而，如果观众想要返回其在电视观看方式下最后观看的频道，则把光标48移动到区域46的顶部而加亮最后频道列表45，然后通过按下如图6所示的作为观众输入装置28的遥控器50(图1)上的GIDE/TV按钮52，便自动地返回电视观看方式。当按下GIDE/TV按钮时，在寄存器34中的频道数据被微处理器24检索并被传递到调谐器11使其设置到最后频道，例如在图2所示情况下的KCOP13。如果观众在返回电视观看方式时想要观看一个不同的频道，则移动光标48去加亮区域46中标识想看的频道的项，然后通过按下GIDE/TV按钮自动地返回电视观看方式。当此时按下GIDE/TV按钮时，在视频处理器中的频道数据由微处理器24检索，并被传递到调谐器11使其设置到加亮的频道，例如在图2所示情况下的FOX11。

按照本最佳实施例，只有SURF引导包括最后频道列表45。为了利用最后频道特征，观众必须返回SURF引导，并在退出引导方式之前用光标48选择最后频道列表45。

如图3-5所示，每个NEXT,SCAN，和SORT引导包括在PIP窗口42内被显示的当前电视节目即正在LCS上被显示的节目的节目列表54。这一列表以后被称为“PIP列表”。通常，一个给定的节目表含有比可以在区域46上显示更多的节目列表。因而，一次只显示在引导中节目列表的一部分，当观众通过节目表上卷时，将显示“隐藏”的节目列表。PIP列表54被定位在区域46的顶行上，并即使观众将在各种引导中可利用的节目列表上卷时，也保留在这个位置。最好是，PIP列表处于具有不同颜色的背景上或处于比光标48暗的阴影上。
按照本最佳实施例，在遥控器50(图6)上的“引导/电视”按钮52使观众能够在电视观看方式和引导方式之间转换。因而，观众可以通过按下“引导/电视”按钮退出任何的引导方式。当进入电视观看方式时，在PIP窗口42内显示的节目将被整屏地显示，该节目是当前在LCS上正在被广播的节目。
如上所述，当从SURF引导(图2)进入各NEXT(图3)，SCAN(图4)，SORT(图5)引导时，调谐器11保持被调谐到LCS，使得从SURF引导观看的电视节目的运动的实时图像保留在PIP窗口中以便不中断观看。此外，在上述每种引导中，PIP列表54被在区域46的顶部显示。在按照本发明的另一个实施例中，区域46可以包括最后频道列表45，用于在任何引导方式下向观众提供最后频道恢复特征。该频道以后称为最后全屏频道或“LCF”。当在SURF引导时，在最后频道列表45中指定LCF的文本是“(最后频道)”。
希望把PIP列表54定位在区域46的顶部，以便清楚地识别哪个节目正在被显示。还希望在区域46中和其它节目列表分开的固定位置显示最后频道列表45。按照一个实施例，在每个NEXT,SCAN，和SORT引导中这样设置区域46，使得PIP列表54处于区域46的顶部，最后频道列表45处于表的底部。这些列表即使观众在各个引导方式下将其它节目列表上卷时，也保留在其指定的位置。最好是，最后频道列表45被加亮成不同的颜色或比光标48或PIP列表54较暗的阴影。最后频道列表以和上述的SURF方式相同的方式被产生。观众可以把光标放在包括PIP列表54和最后频道列表45的区域46中的任何列表上。
在一个实施例中，在NEXT,SCAN，和SORT引导中，不管用光标选择哪个列表，调谐器保留调谐在LCS上。因此，在这些引导中，正在PIP窗口42内被显示的节目不改变。在本实施例中，为了利用最后频道恢复特征，观众按下“引导/电视”按钮而退出引导方式，同时把改变定位在最后频道列表45上，这便控制微处理器从最后频道寄存器34中检索LCF的频道指定，并控制调谐器调谐到LCF。因而，正在LCF上被电视广播的节目在返回电视观看方式时被全屏显示。不过，如果在观众退出引导方式时选择任何其它的列表，调谐器将保留调谐在LCS上，并且在退出引导方式之前在PIP窗口内被显示的节目在电视观看方式下被全屏显示。因而，当转换到电视观看方式时，LCS是缺省频道。在另一个实施例中，在系统建立期间，缺省频道可由观众指定为LCS或LCF。
在另一个实施例中，观众可以在PIP窗口42内在LCS和LCF上电视广播的节目之间转换。按照这个实施例，当在NEXT,SCAN，和SORT引导方式中时，微处理器24控制调谐器11，当光标位于最后频道列表45上时，使其调谐到LCF上，从而使得在PIP窗口中显示的LCS上的电视节目被最后全屏显示的节目所替代。调谐器将保留调谐到LCF上直到PIP列表54被选择为止。这使得观众能够选择在进入引导方式之前其选择的最后频道上正在电视广播的节目和在SURF引导方式下通过频道瞬发而选择的最后频道上正在电视广播的节目之间进行转换。最好是，PIP列表54和最后频道列表45的加亮的颜色被交换，而不交换其在区域46中的各自的位置。
按照本发明的另一个实施例，通过在遥控器上设置“最后频道”按钮60来帮助在电视观看方式下从任何引导返回LCF。在电视观看方式下，最后频道按钮通常用于在当前调谐的频道和以前调谐的频道之间的转换。按照本发明，“最后频道”按钮60也可以用于从任何引导方式，即NEXT,SCAN，或SORT返回电视观看方式，并同时把调谐器11调谐到LCF。因而，当退出引导方式时，观众具有两种观看选择，或者按下“最后频道”按钮返回在电视观看方式下的LCF，或者按下“引导/电视”按钮，返回电视观看方式下的LCS。
在上述的实施例中，微处理器24控制一个调谐器11在电视观看方式和引导方式下显示节目，并把LCF存储在存储器例如和微处理器相连的RAM中。图7是按照本发明的利用两个调谐器从而提供最后频道恢复特征的电视系统的原理方块图。按照这个实施例，LCF被存储在电视观看方式下用于调谐频道的电视调谐器72中。根据所用的调谐器的类型，LCF可以被机械地存储在电视调谐器72中，或被存储在调谐器的锁相环中。在引导方式下，单独的PIP调谐器74调谐在PIP窗口内显示的频道，而电视调谐器72保持调谐到LCF。因为电视调谐器保持调谐到LCF，所以在从引导方式返回电视方式时，正在LCF上电视广播的节目便自动地被全屏显示。
虽然这里说明了本发明的一些最佳实施例，但是显然，本领域内的技术人员可以作出各种改进和改型。因此，应该理解，本发明的范围只由所附权利要求所限制。

Claims (11)

1．一种利用具有屏幕和调谐器的电视装置选择在屏幕上显示的频道的频道冲浪(surfing)方法，包括以下步骤：
在列表存储器中存储代表电视广播节目的多个电视节目列表，每个存储的节目列表包括相关的频道指定；
调节调谐器以便接收选择的频道；
在电视观看方式下全屏显示在所选频道上正在电视广播的所选择的节目；
选择一种节目引导方式；
在频道存储器中存储选择的频道的指定；
由频道存储器中的选择的频道指定产生最后频道列表；
在一种节目引导方式下在屏幕的第一区域显示在选择的频道上电视广播的节目；以及
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第二区域同时显示一种图像显示，所述图像显示包括：
包括存储在列表存储器中的一些节目列表的节目表；以及
在节目表的指定位置的最后频道列表。
2．如权利要求1所述的方法，其中指定的位置在节目表的顶部。
3．一种利用具有屏幕和调谐器的电视装置选择在屏幕上显示的频道的频道冲浪方法，包括以下步骤：
在列表存储器中存储代表电视广播节目的多个电视节目列表，每个存储的节目列表包括相关的频道指定；
调节调谐器以便接收选择的频道；
在电视观看方式下全屏显示在所选频道上正在电视广播的所选择的节目；
选择一种节目引导方式；
在频道存储器中存储选择的频道的指定；
由频道存储器中的选择的频道指定产生最后频道列表；
在一种节目引导方式下在屏幕的第一区域显示在选择的频道上电视广播的节目；以及
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第二区域同时显示一种图像显示，所述图像显示包括：
包括存储在列表存储器中的一些节目列表的节目表区域；以及
在所述节目表区域的指定位置的最后频道列表。
4．如权利要求3所述的方法，其中最后频道列表的指定的位置在节目表区域的底部。
5．如权利要求3所述的方法，还包括以下步骤：
在节目引导方式下将多个节目列表上卷，同时保持最后频道列表在节目列表区域的指定位置。
6．如权利要求3所述的方法，其中最后频道列表通过加亮进行标识。
7．一种利用具有屏幕和调谐器的电视装置选择在屏幕上显示的频道的频道冲浪方法，包括以下步骤：
在列表存储器中存储代表电视广播节目的多个电视节目列表，每个存储的节目列表包括相关的频道指定；
调节调谐器以便接收选择的频道；
在电视观看方式下全屏显示正在所选频道上电视广播的所选择的节目；
选择一种节目引导方式；
在频道存储器中存储选择的频道的指定；
由频道存储器中的选择的频道指定产生最后频道列表；
在一种节目引导方式下在屏幕的第一区域显示在选择的频道上电视广播的节目；
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第二区域同时显示一种图像显示，所述图像显示包括：包括存储在存储器中的一些节目列表的节目表和最后频道列表；以及
在所述节目引导方式下在选择节目引导方式的同时在屏幕上连续地标识最后频道列表。
8．如权利要求6所述的方法，其中最后频道列表通过文本进行标识，所述文本把选择的频道识别为全屏显示的最后频道。
9．如权利要求6所述的方法，其中最后频道列表通过加亮进行标识。
10．一种利用具有屏幕和调谐器的电视装置选择在屏幕上显示的频道的频道冲浪方法，包括以下步骤：
在列表存储器中存储代表电视广播节目的多个电视节目列表，每个存储的节目列表包括相关的频道指定；
调节调谐器以便接收在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目；
在电视观看方式下全屏显示在第一个选择的频道上正在电视广播的第一个选择的节目；
选择一种节目引导方式；
在频道存储器中存储第一个选择的频道的指定；
由频道存储器中的选择的频道指定产生最后频道列表；
在一种节目引导方式下在屏幕的第一区域显示在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目；
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第二区域同时显示存储在列表存储器中的一些节目列表，其中包括最后频道列表；
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕上用光标标识最后频道列表；
移动光标以便加亮一个列表，用于在第二区域内显示的第二个选择的节目；
从存储器中检索第二个选择的节目列表的选择的频道指定；
调节调谐器到检索的频道指定，以便在第一区域内显示在第二个选择的频道上电视广播的第二个选择的节目；
选择电视观看方式；
从频道存储器中检索第一个选择的频道的指定；
调节调谐器到检索的第一个选择的频道；以及
从节目引导方式转换到电视观看方式而不改变调谐器，使得在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目在电视观看方式下被全屏显示。
11．一种利用电视装置的频道冲浪方法，所述电视装置具有屏幕和用于选择在电视观看方式下在屏幕上显示的频道的第一调谐器和用于在引导方式下选择在PIP窗口中显示的频道的第二调谐器，所述方法包括以下步骤：
在列表存储器中存储代表电视广播节目的多个电视节目列表，每个存储的节目列表包括一个相关的频道指定；
调节第一调谐器以便接收在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目；
在电视观看方式下全屏显示在第一个选择的频道上正在电视广播的第一个选择的节目；
选择一种节目引导方式；
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第一区域显示在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目；
在所述节目引导方式下在屏幕的第二区域同时显示存储在列表存储器中的一些节目列表；
移动光标以便加亮在第二区域内显示的第二个选择的节目的一个列表；
从存储器中检索第二个选择的节目列表的选择的频道指定；
调节第二调谐器到检索的频道指定，以便在第一区域内显示在第二个选择的频道上电视广播的第二个选择的节目；
选择电视观看方式；以及
从引导方式转换到电视观看方式，同时调节调谐器使得在第一个选择的频道上电视广播的节目在电视观看方式下被全屏显示。
