技术领域
本发明涉及多媒体终端,并且更具体地涉及在移动环境中使用DVB(数字视频广播)的交互式多媒体终端。
背景技术
半导体技术与软件的进展加速了无线数据通信的蓬勃发展。这些进展已允许在数字网上传输音频与数据信号。
数字与混合信号系统提供比老式模拟系统多得多的优点。一个重要优点是数字系统在更高的速率上传输与接收更多信息。模拟系统限于在64Kbps(千比特/秒)的速率上传输音频与视频,数字系统能压缩这些传输而在相同的速率上传输8倍的信息。再者,更快速的处理器允许数字系统以不断提高的速率传输位。通过利用压缩程序及更快速的处理器来更精确与更快速地传输信息,已在交换容量与不断增长的线路成本上实现了重大的节省。
通过采用诸如时分多址联接(“TDMA”)与码分多址联接(“CDMA”)等多址联接技术,已实现了额外的优点。这些技术允许多个用户接入单一带宽。它们还允许将单个用户传输的音频与数据信号互相混合。这些技术更好地利用了珍贵的无线电波空间。
无线信息革命的最新进展为例如利用DVB-T(Digital VideoBroadcasting-Terrestrial(数字视频广播-地面))在无线电波上传输数字视频信号。类似的进展正在RF带上出现,如正在作出努力在蜂窝式电话、传真机与计算机上增加视频性能。然而,能在这些机器上增加优质视频性能之前,必须克服由带宽限制产生的问题。因为这些机器在900与1900MHz之间的频率上工作,带宽不足于传输优质电影所需的极大量视频与音频信息。
数字电视以比当前可利用的模拟广播的更高质量提供更多频道。一条模拟频道提供一个高清晰度(HDTV)数字广播或若干标准清晰度(SDTV)数字广播的带宽容量。数字电视可在这两个极端之间调节。因此,数字广播台能在非常改进的图象及声音质量与增加节目选择数目之间作出折衷。
可将数字电视发送给移动中的接收机。当前,模拟电视接收在移动接收机中不再存在或受到严格限制。然而,数字接收机允许在汽车、公交车、火车及诸如Sony WatchmanTM等手持式电视机中清晰地接收。
大多数用于制作、编辑以及分发(distribute)电视节目的设备当前是数字的。通过电缆、天线、或卫星模拟接收电视信号是一长事件链的最终结果,它们大多数已发生在数字域中。例如,在分发新广播时,现场记者利用数字卫星新闻采集设备将其报导上行链接到广播节目中心。将该资料进行数字接收、解码、并利用馈入广播室中的实况节目进行编辑。然后向全世界数字地发送该广播到专业接收机。最后,将广播转换成模拟信号及发送给终端观众。
智能TV通过将TV连接在增值网(VAN)上能接收通信服务。该智能TV包含信息信号处理单元,在智能TV连接在VAN上时接收信息通信数据(此后称作“信息数据”)并生成信息RGB信号和转接控制信号以便将该信息数据显示在屏幕上。该智能TV按照从该信息信号处理单元输出的转接控制信号来选择在该信息信号处理单元中处理的信息数据信号之一和在TV信号处理单元中处理的TV RGB信号,并将其显示在屏幕上。智能TV使通过TV屏幕观看若干通信服务成为可能,诸如正在通过VAN传输的股票标价、新闻服务、气象报告及TV节目单。因此,它具有不熟悉计算机使用的人能容易地接收通信服务的优点。
虽然智能TV具有通过TV屏幕接收通信服务的优点,它却不能同时显示多个信号。必须一次一个地显示用于在屏幕上显示信息数据的信息信号、TV信号、用于同时能观看两个屏面的画中画(PIP)信号及TV正在屏幕上显示的(OSD)信号,因此,信号是按预定的优先级显示的。例如,信息信号优先于TV信号显示,PIP信号优先于信息信号显示,而TV OSD信号则优先于PIP信号显示。
上述当前信息发送服务缺少可增强它们的可用性与公众需求的许多特征。如上所述,该智能TV缺乏同时显示多个信号的能力。此外,不能得到两种服务其中之一为诸如交互式应用的在线连接。当前技术是依赖于静止接收机的。由于不能用集成的接收机/解码器(或IRD)将多个信号综合,信息发送是依赖于位置或地点的。
新的显示技术提供了生产低功率高质量便携式显示设备的可能性。这些设备是基于大的全色平板显示器或虚拟(装在头盔上的)显示器的。这种显示器的共同特征在于它们是数字与点阵型显示器。DVB-T的引入在TV广播历史上第一次使真正的TV移动接收成为可能。除了传统的TV服务,DVB-T还提供对广播数据服务的接入。DVB-T与诸如上述平板或装在头盔上的显示器的结合使得生产具有摄影室质量画面的全数字TV接收机成为可能。
图3表示当前多媒体体系结构的框图。当前,数字机顶盒(STB)302与数字TV显示器304是分开的。再者,STB 302通信链路只有单一类型。例如,STB通信链路为诸如同轴电缆或POTS等硬接口。因此,连接在STB 302上的典型数字TV 304不提供便携性或移动性。
膝上型与笔记本计算机现在装有用移动(或无线)链路连接在网络上的装置。这种连接通常利用构成在诸如PCMIA卡等单一卡上的调制解调器与数字无线收发机。然而,尚未将数字TV接收机集成到这种设备上。缺少这一通用性的一个原因是数字TV接收机具有高功耗率(相对于其它膝上型或笔记本功能)。因而,会快速耗尽膝上型的电池功率。此外,膝上型和STB一样它们的外部通信能力通常是有限的。例如,能使用串行端口、并行端口及有可能的调制解调器从膝上型发布信息。然而,这些设备并非无缝地在这些链路之间转接。再者,这些设备并不具有估计它们的环境及动态转接到最适当的通信链路的能力。
发明内容
所公开的实施例提供了用于提供交互式移动多媒体终端的方法与装置。该移动多媒体终端(或MMT)能用诸如DVB-T等数字数据广播接收机来接收宽带数据流。交互性(interactivity)是用内置本地或大小区规模通信链路实现的。该本地链路可以是WLAN或蓝牙(低功率RF收发机)。该大小区规模通信链路可以是诸如GSM、CDMA、TDMA等移动台链路。如果未找到本地连接点,可将带蓝牙链路的移动台用作大小区规模通信的IP路由器或便携式基台。MMT将DVB-T接收、数字显示与通信链路综合在一起来提供在移动环境中的交互性。带移动台的MMT通信链路使它能起该移动台的扩展显示器的作用。MMT也能起着通过移动台的SMS消息传送的图形界面,或操纵移动台上的其它应用的作用。
所公开的实施例能提供许多优点。例如,MMT为能用在便携式或移动环境中的单一设备。MMT配置有不同的无线链路,使它能通过在不同的通信接口、协议、或链路之间切换而无缝地与动态地适应其通信环境。作为另一实例,MMT能用于接收及显示(或广播)不同种类的数据。这些数据可包含诸如MP3(MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer 3(MPEG-1/2音频层3))文件、电子书本等数字内容、或报纸、电子商务数据、或广播TV。作为另一实例,定时与同步控制器可通过控制MMT的数字接收机来节省功率。

图1描述移动多媒体终端(或MMT)的当前较佳实施例。该MMT提供交互式移动环境。在当前较佳实施例中,DVB-T接收机102受CPU104控制。DVB-T接收机102能接收按照DVB-T标准的数字TV广播。DVB-S(卫星)与DVB-C(有线)广播也是标准化的并也可使用。DVB-T标准规定携带数字数据流的最好是在VHF频率范围中的宽带频道。除了TV广播之外,DVB-T频谱中的频道也能用于传输旨在供特定用户接收的数据。为了保密,这些数据通常是加密的。以这一方式,DVB-T(或DVB-S或DVB-C)能用于要求宽带下游频道(从源到请求者)的数据传输。在当前较佳实施例中,MMT 100是请求者。
媒体解码器106受CPU 104控制并用于解码所接收的DVB-T广播。DVB-T广播标准采用MPEG-2编码。因此,在当前较佳实施例中,该媒体解码器106为MPEG-2解码器。然而,其它形式的视频流也能且实际上使用其它协议传输数字数据。所选择的媒体解码器106应设计成匹配及解码数字数据源所使用的传输协议。
显示器接口108接收来自媒体解码器106的解码后的广播。将显示器接口108设计成优化对MMT 100的用户的数据显示。例如,所接收的数字数据可以是全运动视频的形式或某种图形。不同的格式要求不同的模式来最佳地显示。显示器接口108作为视频综合器工作。例如,显示器接口能将图形覆盖层放置在全运动视频上,操纵全运动视频的显示到显示器的某一部分中,或者剪辑某些视频或图形以便只在显示器上展示它们的主要或移动部分。显示器接口108的输出驱动MMT100的显示器110。
除了处理数字广播信号之外,当前较佳实施例的MMT 100还能传输信息。这些信息可包含信息请求、通过广播下载的数据、电话标识数据、或移动台(诸如移动电话)上的正常话音与数据通信。在当前较佳实施例中,MMT 100装备有诸如蓝牙等低功率射频(LPRF)收发机112。按照蓝牙标准配置的收发机能对本地收发机进行短距离(大约10米)无线电通信。可将该本地收发机连接在LAN、PSTN、或低或高功率无线网上。除了LPRF链路之外,当前较佳实施例的MMT 100能配置成带有无线LAN 114或蜂窝式收发机116。蜂窝式收发机可以是例如GSM、TDMA、CDMA、AMPS或其它标准或专利通信协议。MMT100的CPU控制器104配置成动态地选择收发机112、114与116之间的通信模式。CPU 104能根据当前通信环境选择适当的通信链路。例如,如果检测到蓝牙收发机,便能用该蓝牙收发机112交换数据而无须获取蜂窝式链路上的信道。然而,如果要传输话音数据,则蜂窝式链路是理想的。因而CPU 104将选择蜂窝式收发机116用于传输工作。
MMT 100的LPRF链路112可用在与外部移动台的结合中。外部移动台能作为便携式(近距离)基台工作。外部移动台也能作为网上浏览与其它网络活动的IP路由器工作。
MMT 100的DVB-T接收机102由CPU 104激活或去激活。DVB-T接收机102可应用户请求激活。即在用户想要接收广播数据或期望接收广播数据时。CPU 104也能监视服务信息的环境及在条件认可时激活DVB-T接收机102。例如,如果检测到用户想要接收的服务时,CPU104能激活DVB-T接收机102。作为另一实例,如果及在它需要时,CPU 104能激活DVB-T接收机102,以便传达重要或时间性数据给用户,例如气象或新闻数据。
在当前最佳实施例中,DVB-T接收机102装备有定时元件118,使它能保持与数字广播设施同步。这一定时器118使它有可能在上一次系统同步以后的日子里打开接收机及检拾所选择的数据分组。定时器118使CPU 104能控制DVB-T接收机102的激活也能节省功率。例如,如果当前不在使用视频功能,即不在或不需要接收数字广播时,CPU 104便关掉DVB-T接收机102。例如,当MMT正在通信链路112、114、或116上进行网上浏览时,便能出现这一情况。

除了快速存储器428之外,移动台通常还包含用于存储诸如起动过程等不许改变的信息的只读存储器(ROM)430、及保持诸如频道号与系统标识符等临时信息的随机存取存储器(RAM)432。
在当前的最佳实施例中,移动台还包含诸如蓝牙等用于与MMT 100通信的LPRF收发机112。
如熟悉本技术的人员所理解的,本申请中所描述的新颖概念可在巨大的应用范围上修正与改变,从而专利主题事物的范围不受上面给出的任何特定示范性教导的限制。
例如,将数字接收机描述为DVB-T接收机。然而,所接收的数字数据可以是各式各样的数字格式、频率、协议等中的任何一种。应将所使用的数字接收机配置成接收预期的数据类型。再者,可将数字接收机配置成接收各式各样格式的数字信息或接收诸如NTSC或PAL等模拟与数字广播。
作为另一实例,将当前较佳实施例描述为只有一台数字接收机。然而,可将MMT的不同实施例配置成带有多台数字接收机。一台以上数字接收机的使用能用来提高在数字广播中所接收的数据的坚固性。
作为另一实例,将当前较佳实施例描述为一次一条地在不同通信链路上操作。然而,有可能一次操作诸如LPRF、WLAN、与/或无线移动台链路等若干通信链路以便同时对多处发送及接收信息。
作为另一实例,虽然在当前较佳实施例中未明确陈述,有可能将移动台集成到MMT中。集成的MMT/移动台允许MMT作为其本身的IP路由器或便携式基台工作。
作为另一实例,在当前较佳实施例中预期数据的数字广播。然而,有可能第三代(3G)或更高级的蜂窝式网络将具有投送TV接收及宽带数据传输的容量,MMT能装备有配置成接收这种数字数据的不同或代替的接收机。

Claims (41)

1.一种移动多媒体终端交互性的方法,包括下述步骤:
向数字服务提供者请求信息;
通过广播从所述数字服务提供者接收数据信号;
解码所述数据信号以便展示;
优化所述数据信号以便输出;
操纵所述数据信号以便显示;和
展示所述优化的信号作为输出。
2.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述请求步骤使用多条无线通信链路之一。
3.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述请求步骤使用多条无线通信链路之一,并且控制器确定适当的通信链路。
4.如权利要求1的方法,还包括存储所述数据信号的步骤。
5.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述优化步骤还包括将所述数据信号与其它数据组合以产生显示的步骤。
6.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述数据信号是从数字广播频道中接收的。
7.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述数据信号是用于移动台的显示数据。
8.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述数据信号是数字视频广播-地面(DVB-T)格式的。
9.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述数据信号是MPEG-1/2音频层3(MP3)格式的。
10.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述展示步骤使用视频显示器。
11.如权利要求1的方法,其中所述展示步骤使用音频输出。
12.一种移动多媒体终端,包括:
连接用于接收广播数据信号的至少一台接收机;
连接到所述接收机上以控制和协调所述接收机的功能的控制器;
显示器接口,连接到媒体解码器,用于优化所述接收的广播数据信号以便显示;以及
低功率射频收发信机,连接到所述控制器,用于相对于所述接收的广播数据信号提供交互式环境。
13.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,其中所述媒体解码器连接到所述接收机与所述控制器,以解码所述接收的广播数据信号。
14.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,其中所述控制器根据通信环境来开关所述接收机的操作。
15.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器和所述接收机的定时与同步管理器。
16.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器和所述接收机的定时与同步管理器,其中所述定时与同步管理器启动所述广播数据信号的接收而不重新同步所述接收机。
17.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述显示器接口上以显示视频数据的显示器。
18.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括音频输出以展示音频数据。
19.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器以存储所述接收的广播数据信号的存储器。
20.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,其中所述广播数据信号是用于移动台的显示数据。
21.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器以提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作的无线局域网收发信机。
22.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器以提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作的移动台收发信机。
23.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,还包括连接到所述控制器的移动台收发信机以及无线局域网收发信机,其中所述控制器根据通信环境选择所述收发信机之一来提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作。
24.如权利要求12的移动多媒体终端,其中至少所述接收机之一为数字视频广播-地面(DVB-T)接收机。
25.一种交互式移动多媒体终端系统,包括:
传送数据请求的移动台;
接收所述数据请求并根据所述请求来提供数据的服务提供者;
从所述服务提供者接收所述数据并在广播频道上发送所述数据的广播操作机构;和
移动多媒体终端,包含:
接收所述数据的至少一台接收机;
媒体解码器,连接到所述接收机,用于解码所述接收的数据;
控制器,连接到所述接收机与所述媒体解码器,以管理和协调所述接收机与所述媒体解码器的功能;
显示器接口,连接到所述媒体解码器,以优化所述接收的数据以便显示;和
低功率射频收发信机,连接到所述控制器,以提供与所述接收的数据的交互式操作以及到所述移动台的通信链路。
26.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述控制器根据通信环境来开关所述接收机的操作。
27.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器和所述接收机的定时与同步管理器。
28.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器和所述接收机的定时与同步管理器,其中所述定时与同步管理器启动所述广播数据信号的接收而不重新同步所述接收机。
29.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器的移动台收发信机与无线局域网收发信机,其中所述控制器根据通信环境选择所述收发信机之一来提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作。
30.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中至少所述接收机之一为数字视频广播-地面(DVB-T)接收机。
31.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述广播数据信号是用于所述移动台的显示数据。
32.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述控制器解码所述接收的广播数据信号。
33.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述显示器接口以显示视频数据的显示器。
34.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括音频输出以展示音频数据。
35.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器以存储所述接收的广播数据信号的存储器。
36.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器以提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作的无线局域网收发信机。
37.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,还包括连接到所述控制器以提供与所述接收的广播数据信号的交互式操作的移动台收发信机。
38.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述移动台包含用于从所述移动多媒体终端接收数据的低功率射频收发信机。
39.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述移动多媒体终端发送数据请求给所述移动台。
40.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述移动多媒体终端利用所述低功率射频收发信机来发送数据请求给所述移动台。
41.如权利要求25的交互式移动多媒体终端系统,其中所述移动台被集成在所述移动多媒体终端中。
