发明背景
计算机软件应用程序和系统向用户提供各种有关其状态与活动的信息，如每当新的电子邮件消息到来，就在计算机屏或监视器上显示出通知告诉用户。计算机还可发出声响，提醒用户观看计算机屏而阅读通知。其它应用还有即时消息与话音电子邮件等，也可提供有关通信的通知。另外，有些应用提供其它类型的通知与报警，如日程表程序可提示即将到来的会议，任务管理器程序提示预定日期的任务和任务完成状况报告。系统组件告知设备状态、服务警报与系统正常情况。因特相关的服务和其它基于网络通信服务也以通知形式提供信息，如用户能预约因特网相关的服务告知重要新闻、股票报价、体育比分、气象等信息。
随着计算机在通信和信息应用场合中的应用不断增长，供给用户的通知与报警数量也继续增多，一般从概念上讲，用户会被这么多的通知与报警过载。而且，用户在关注某一具体任务时，强制用户互动的通知起着扰乱作用。再者，用户在开会或其它社交场合接收通知时，用户因读通知而受扰乱。
然而，用户此时可能不一定想关断通知，不过又没有多少选择权，除了以当前可能的干扰形式接收通知外，要不干脆不接收。例如，虽然用户在执行手头任务时可以禁止某些通知与报警以防中断工作，但这不是好办法，因为会使用户失去重要的信息，包括与当时工作环境相关的信息。有时用户例如在赶会场不得不关断通知而不能接收信息，尽管有些信息是有用的，诸如开会地点或方向等。因此，希望有一种系统与方法能让用户控制通知和进入的信息，而且便于查看这些通知和进入的信息。
发明内容
简单地说，本发明向用户提供一种辅助显示器，要以不分心地快捷查看次要任务信息，无须把工作重心移离屏上的当前任务。为此，辅助显示器与计算系统集成一体，提供一个能在外围显现通知的相容的场所。每当背景任务或特控的前景任务向系统主显示器发送数据如通知等，该通知就被重定向出现在辅助显示器上。于是，用户可看一眼出现在辅助显示器上的通知而被告知消息，不用中断手头上的任务。在开会或其它社交场合中，计算机用户也可小心地看一下小显示器，不必中断会议转而阅读大型监视器的通知，接通大型监视器，或者与普通计算机系统发生交互作用。
辅助显示器可显现任何类型的信息，包括进入的通信、提示、系统报警和因特网预约服务。用户可将计算机系统配置成选择任一种此类信息，或只选择某一类信息的特定内容，例如用户可以选择只接收来自日程表程序对已承诺和暂定约会的提示，还可例如通过调整显示周期，配置在辅助显示器上显示多长的特种消息，某些通知可以瞬间出现再慢慢消失。其它通知可以设置成长期保持到不再相关，或以某种方式如通过主显示器处理掉。
辅助显示器可位于多个地点，包括中央处理器底盘上或监视器边框(如图7的辅助显示器703)，以显示离一段距离观看的数据。顺便提一下，LED指示灯可与辅助显示器一起提供简便的外围视觉通知。这类通知灯光向用户警示某一事件而无须切换主显示器内容，用户按下与通知灯光关联的按钮，便可获得更详尽的跟踪信息。
任何带显示器的计算或通信设备还能用作辅助显示器，包括通用计算机、蜂窝电话和个人数字助理(PDA)等手持设备，而且，可在计算机主显示器某一区内构制一虚拟辅助显示器。例如，小窗或扰动屏幕变色而提供通知的可视边框可以当作辅助显示器。辅助显示器包括上述任一形式的组合。
辅助显示器让用户接到更多的进入通信，还能对进入通信更好地控制中断，其它优点可从下面结合附图所作的详述看出。

详细描述
示例的操作环境
图1和以下讨论对可以实施本发明的合适计算环境作一概述。尽管不作要求，但是在个人计算机执行的计算机可执行指令如程序模块的一般范围内描述本发明。程序模块通常包括例行程序、程序、对象、元件、数据结构等，可执行特定任务或实现特定摘要数据类型。

在成本或空间苛刻而又要求通知与基本内容的场合，2线的字母数字显示器有利于用作辅助显示器1，实际上可用于小平板PC、膝上计算机、财务PC、电话扩展坞(docking station)、监视器挡板和小型或廉价的PC家电或外设，如手机、键盘或遥控器，还可有效地替代(并改进)呼叫者ID信箱。
而且，对丰富媒体应用、高端消费品系统或媒体中心系统而言，单色或彩色多线显示器有利于用作辅助显示器1，实际上可用于形状系数更宽大或注重通信的高端膝上计算机、业务繁忙或强调通信的全功能PC、媒体中心或高端媒体家电(包括具备携带媒体功能的远程控制台系统)和移动辅助显示器。另外，另一计算或通信设备的显示器也能有利地用作辅助显示器1，用户在使用其PC时能扩展这些增补设备的作用。这些其它计算或通信设备包括通用计算机、蜂窝电话和寻呼机或个人数字助理(PDA)等手持设备。还得注意，不要求辅助显示器是实际的显示器，可以是信息的投影(如投射到墙上)。这里所说的辅助显示器可以是任何视觉上、听觉上或触觉上的显现。

输入设备3可以是单一按钮，让用户切换不同类别的通知，如电子邮件、话音电子邮件通知、日程表通知、系统状态通知、呼叫者ID清单和其它类通知消息。与切换按钮相伴的不有向上、向下按钮，让用户向前向后滚动一特定类别的通知消息。本领域的技术人员显然明白，可使用任何其它输入设备，如键盘、话筒、操纵杆、游戏机垫片或其它设备，位置传感器或其它类传感器的设备。计算设备20的任一输入设备都可图1示出的输入设备3，或与独立的输入设备3一起使用。
图2的框图代表图1的计算设备20，其形式是一种引用本发明的个人计算机系统。本领域的技术人员将明白，图2的个人计算机系统20只用于示例，本发明可用其它计算机系统配置来实现，包括手持设备、多处理器系统、基于微处理器或可编程的消费类电子产品、网络PC、小型计算、大型计算机、无头服务器等。本发明还可在用通过通信网联接的远程处理设备执行任务的分布型计算环境中实施。在分布型计算环境中，程序模块位于本机与远程两种存贮设备里。
个人计算机系统20包括处理单元21、系统存储器22和系统总线23，系统总线把包括系统存储器在内的各种系统组件耦合至处理单元21。系统总线23可以是若干类总线结构的任一类，包括存储器总线或存储器控制器，外设总线和应用任一总线结构的本机总线。系统存储器包括只读存储器(ROM)24和随机存取存储器(RAM)25。基本输入/输出系统26(BISO)存贮在ROM24里，包含有助于诸如在启动时在个人计算机20内诸组件之间传递信息的基本例行程序。个人计算机20还包括对硬盘(未示出)读写的硬盘驱动器27、对可移动磁盘29读写的磁盘驱动器28，以及对CD-ROM等可移动光盘31或其它光学媒体读写的光盘驱动器30，它们分别通过硬盘驱动器接口32，磁盘驱动器接口33和光学驱动器接口34接至系统总线23。驱动器及其关联的计算机可读媒体为个人计算机20提供非易失地存贮计算机可读指令、数据结构、程序模块和其它数据。虽然这里描述的示例计算机系统应用了硬盘，可移动磁盘29和可移动光盘31，但是本领域的技术人员应明白，本示例计算机系统也可使用能存储可被计算机存取的数据的其它类计算机可读媒体，诸如盒式磁带，快闪存储卡、数字视盘、Bernoulli卡盘、随机存取存储器(RAM)、只读存储器(ROM)等。

使用与一台或多台远程计算机如远程计算机49的逻辑连接，个人计算机20可工作于联网环境。远程计算机49可以是另一台个人计算机、服务器、路由器、网络PC、对等设备或另一公共网络节点，而且一般包括上面对个人计算机20所描述的许多或全部组件，尽管图2只示出了存储设备50。图2的逻辑连接包括局域网(LAN)51和广域网(WAN)52。这类联网环境在办公室、企业计算机网、内联网和因特网中很常见。
在LAN联网环境中使用时，个人计算机20通过网接口或适配器53接本地网51。在WAN联网环境中使用时，为在广域网52如因特网上建立通信，个人计算机20一般包括调制解调器54或其它装置。调制解调器54可以是内或外置的，经串口接口46接系统总线23。在联网环境中，关于计算机20或其部分示出的程序模块可以存入远程存储设备。显然，图示的网络连接用于示例，可以使用在计算机之间建立通信键路的其它装置。
信息的辅助显示
将会明白，本发明为用户提供的辅助显示器，可简捷地观看有关次要任务的信息而不分心，或不必从屏上的当前任务转移工作焦点。用户能配置哪些信息出现在辅助显示器上。虽然将用通知来表示信息辅助显示，但应理解，本发明可辅助显示诸如来自因特网服务的其它类信息，包括交易服务，拍卖服务，广告服务，娱乐服务和定位服务。这类服务能提供范围广泛的信息，包括金融交易信息、重要新闻、股票报价、体育比分、气象与其它信息，其中包括用户专门申请的信息和未经请求的信息。还会明白，辅助显示器可用任意数量已知类型的显示器工作，如一组通知指示灯，2线字母数字显示器，单色或彩色显示器。
图3表示把一组通知指示器用作辅助显示器。一个通知指示灯如LED与每个标记的信息类相关联，该信息类被配置成向用户告示由应用程序或系统组件发送的通知。图3的四类信息是电子邮件、话音邮件、日程表与系统状态。与某类信息有关的各LED用标记指定，例如LED302与电子邮件通知有关，用说明标记“E-mail”322指定。除了或者代替像电子邮件一样的说明标记，还可用图标如LED302下面的信封图标312指定LED，表明LED302与电子邮件通知关联。而且，各LED还能闪烁显示不同的色彩，如红、绿、黄与兰，传递该通知的附加信息。
图4的状态图一般示出把一组通知指示器用作辅助显示器的操作状态。更具体地说，该状态图示出适合图3中示例辅助显示器1的各类信息的三种操作状态和与状态转移关联的动作。另在接收和阅读通知时，还对各状态示出了通知指示器的行为。图4以电子邮件通知为例描述。应明白，色彩与描述的闪烁操作是例子，替代方法很多。
接收第一电子邮件通知前，系统处于状态402而无要读的通知。接收被定为一般优先级的第一电子邮件通知时，电子邮件通知指示器闪三次兰光，系统过渡到状态404，通知指示器保持稳定的兰光照射。若下次接收高先级的电子邮件通知，则电子邮件通知指示器闪三次红光(举例)，系统过渡到状态406，通知指示器保持稳定的红光照射。若阅读一般优先级的电子邮件通知，系统保持在状态406，直到阅读最后一个高优先级电子邮件通知。若系统处于状态406而接收新的一般或高优先级的电子邮件通知，那么电子邮件通知指示器闪三次红光，系统保持在状态406，通知指示器稳定地红光照射。读出最后的高优先级电子邮件后，除非有未读的电子邮件通知，否则系统过渡到状态402。若有未读的一般优先级通知，系统便过渡到状态404，通知指示器变为稳定的兰光。最后的一般优先级电子邮件通知一读出，系统即过渡到状态402，电子邮件通知指示器变为未光照。
读每个电子邮件通知时，把电子邮件应用程序引至计算机系统监视器上的前景，再读产生通知的电子邮件消息。若计算机系统不在执行该电子邮件应用程序，就首先激励电子邮件应用程序。在本发明一示例实施例中，有一与通知指示器关联的按钮，按下此钮可放出或引入应用程序或系统组件到前景。在另一实施例中，可另按与计算机系统20键盘40上的应用程序或系统组件关联的键。
虽然图4用电子邮件描述，但应明白，本发明可以使用其它类别的信息而有所不同地改变通知指示器的行为。例如，话音邮件有自己的指示器，它使用与图4同样的状态图或类似的状态图。作为另一实例，系统状态通知指示器308与系统状态信息关联。在没有与系统相关的通知消息时，替代使系统状态通知指示器处于状态402未被光照，而是通知指示符可被光照为稳定的绿光，表明系统是正常的。虽然通知指示器用一组通知灯来描述，但是本领域的技术人员将明白，可以使用其它类型的通知指示器。例如，每当接收新的通知时，可产生音响指示来提醒用户，用来代替通知指示器闪烁三次或作为追加。
图5表示把一个多线显示器用作辅助显示器一个替代实施例。用作辅助显示器的多线显示器可以是单色或彩色显示器。该辅助显示器有一标题区502，指示显现在显示器上的一般信息，还在标题区502中示出当前时刻。标题区502内还可包含其它信息，如气象、股票行情自动收录器、日期(或可能收到的最新消息)等。对每一类配置成向用户告示由应用程序或系统组件等发送的通知或消息的信息，该信息显示区包括各种图标，如用于电子邮件消息的信封图标504。各图标下面是该信息类收到的通知总数的计数。电子邮件图标504下面显示的计数506表明已收到10条电子邮件消息。图5所示代表其它信息类的其它图标是电话呼叫通知508，日程表通知510和系统状态通知512。
在辅助显示器为2线字母数字显示器形式的一示例实施例中，可对每个信息类只显示单行图标，第二行指示各图标下面的计数。本领域的技术人员将明白，其它方法也可在2线显示器上显现信息，而且可在多线显示器上显示更详尽的附加信息。
在另一实施例中，辅助显示器有一相关联的输入设备，它可以是单个按钮，像图5的切换按钮514，让用户切换不同类别的信息，如电子邮件消息504、电话呼叫通知508、日程表通知510和系统状态通知512。与该切换按钮相伴的有其它用于控制辅助显示器输出的按钮。图5示出向上按钮516和向下按钮518。向下按钮518用于向下或从右到左卷动，向上按钮516用于向上或从左到右卷动，例如用户用向上按钮516或向下按钮518选择信息类别如系统状态通知512，就可翻卷过图5显示的诸信息类别。选择后，用户写上就能按下切换按钮514，把与该信息类别关联的应用程序移到计算机监视器上的前景，以便阅读(或倾听或接收)消息。若应用程序在背景中不在计算机上运行，则按下切换按钮514，启动该应用程序。
若辅助显示器的该特定实施例只有单个切换按钮514，则该辅助显示器可自动地从左到右(或从右到左)卷过诸信息类别，它周期地在一特定信息类上暂停。用户然后按动切换按钮514，把应用程序移动到计算机监视器的前景，以便读(或听或收)消息。
在又一示例实施例中，选出信息类后按动切换按钮514，可在辅助显示器上对该信息类显示更详尽的接收消息。例如，用户用向上按钮516选择诸如电子邮件消息504的信息类，就可卷过图5显示的诸信息类。一经选择，用户便能按动切换按钮514显示收到的电子邮件消息清单。
图6示出用辅助显示器显示详尽信息清单的情况。更具体地说，图6示出用辅助显示器更详尽地显现某一信息类收到的消息，尤其示出收到电子邮件消息的附加细节。用户选出电子邮件消息504并按动切换按钮514后，标题区502改变成指示该显示信息是有关电子邮件，如图6的标题区602所示。信息显示区604还被更新为更详尽地显现收到的电子邮件消息，列出与发送人姓名一起收到的前四份电子邮件。主题前几个字和该电子邮件的发送时间。
按下向下按钮518，用户可观看其它电子邮件消息。用户可使用向下按钮518或向上按钮516来卷动电子邮件消息并选择一特定消息。一经选择，用户可按动切换按钮514，在计算机监视器上把该信息类关联的应用程序移至前景而读消息。在计算上若该应用程序不在背景中运行，则按动切换按钮514，启动应用程序。
若该特定的辅助显示器实施例只有单个切换按钮514，则辅助显示器在显示区604自上而下自动地卷动电子邮件消息，在特定电子邮件消息上周期性地暂停。于是，用户可按动切换按钮514，在计算机监视器上将该应用程序移至前景而读消息。
图5-6所示的辅助显示器还有一组图3所描述的通知指示器。还可以有一个与各通知指示器关联的按钮，按下后可将应用程序或系统组件启动或引到前景。如前所述，在另一实施例中，或者按下计算机系统20键盘40上与该应用程序或系统组件关联的某个键。
图7示出应用另一计算或通信设备的显示器的又一辅助显示器1的实施例。图示的电话702附接于图2的监视器47，并利用串行接口、红外或无线接口、USB等连接或其它外设连接接接至图2的计算设备20。如图2所示和前面的描述，监视器47和键盘40还接至计算设备20。电话702还可以是蜂窝电话或其它移动计算设备，能通过有线支架或应用Bluetooth技术或包括超宽带技术在内的其它无线技术与计算设备20连接。注意，许多移动电话具有显示屏，可执行计算功能，似乎更像一台个计算机而不像移动电话。在任何情况下，电话702有自己的显示器1，在不对其主要功能显示信息时，可用来向用户知通知与信息。
像前述的诸辅助显示器实施例一样，显示消息被送至电话702作显示。在一实施例中，键盘40包括切换按钮514，向上按钮516和向下按钮518，在工作成辅助显示器1时控制显示器的输出。另外，键组合和/或诸功能键可以配置成控制该辅助显示器。或者，本领域的技术人员将明白，在该显示器工作成辅助显示器1时，可用电话702上的按钮控制其输出。
虽然电话显示器被描述成用作辅助显示器，但本领域的技术人员显然明白，其它计算或通信设备的显示器同样可用作辅助显示器，包括通用计算机和寻呼机或个人数字助理(PDA)等手持设备。
图8的框图代表用于信息辅助显示的辅助显示设施一实施例的诸组件。本领域的技术人员将明白，图示方框内所实施的功能可以实施为独立的组件，或者若干或全部方框的功能可在单个组件内实现。例如，可以实现一独立的库，包含信息重定向器功能和辅助显示管理器功能。在这种实施法中，联接该库的可执行程序(executables)在计算机系统上执行时，可向辅助显示器直接发送通知。
任何应用程序或操作系统组件都可充当为辅助显示器发送信息的信息发生器802，例如每当有新进入通信时，诸如电子邮件、话音邮件、电话与即时消息等通信应用程序都可发送通知。像因特网服务或网络通信服务一类的信息服务，可以发送用户预约的信息通知，包括日程序与任务管理程序的个人管理应用程序，这里称为日程表或日程表程序，可以提示即将来临的会议和任务到期日。操作系统组件通知设备状态、服务告示与系统正常状况。信息重定向器804截获这些程序或组件发送的任何信息或通知，以供计算机系统的主监视器显示。
对每条截获的信息消息，信息重定向器804相对要重定向的消息数据库比较消息源与消息类别，以供辅助显示器显示。每当数据库里存在匹配，信息重定向器就将该消息送到辅助显示管理器806，不把它转送到供主监视器显示。其它机理也可行，例如不用数据库，应用程序或操作系统组件可对消息作出表征，请求将该消息送给辅助显示器(或送给主显示器而不是辅助显示器)。
辅助显示管理器806接收来自信息重定向器804的新通知，管理包含发送通知的通知队列808，把显示消息送给辅助显示器1，并接收输入设备3的输入请求以查看通知。辅助显示管理器806还包括配置例行程序，用于更新准备在辅助显示器1上显示的消息源与类别数据库。本领域的技术人员将明白，通知队列808是供辅助显示管理器使用的示例数据结构，而辅助显示管理器806还可用其它数据结构或数据库来管理接收自信息重定向器804的消息。
图9的流程图表示辅助显示管理器806(图8)在辅助显示新通知时所采取的示例步骤。在步骤902，辅助显示管理器首先查验是否收到新的通知消息，若未收到，就结束处理；若收到了新的通知消息，则在步骤904把新的通知消息放入通知队列808。注意，图9的步骤只是实例，例如辅助显示管理器806(图8)可被事件驱动，因而步骤902就代表能发辅助显示管理器806的事件。
为在步骤904(图9)把新通知放入通知队列808(图8)，辅助显示管理器就检查消息类别与消息优先级，以确定该消息的优先级。对高优先级消息，辅助显示管理器把它插在队列前面。对正常优先级消息，辅助显示管理器则把它插在队列中还未显示的最高优先级消息之后。本领域的技术人员显然知道，尽管有其它将消息插入队列里的方法，但是本方法把准备显示的最高优先级消息排在队列的前面。或者，可能有高优先级队列和正常优先级队列，还可能有其它优先等级和/或队列。
新的通知一放入通知队列808，辅助显示管理器就在步骤906更新简明信息。为更新简明信息，辅助显示管理器对收到的新通知信息类的计数增数。在更新了简明信息后，辅助显示管理器再在步骤908刷新辅助显示器。
图10表示对图9步骤904描述的通知队列增添新的信息消息。在辅助显示管理器接收新消息时，它查验消息类别与消息优先级，确定通知队列里插新消息的地方。例如图10示出被辅助显示管理器接收的新的电话呼叫消息1002。该消息具有消息类别字段1004，收到时间字段1006，消息优先级字段1008，指示该消息是否被显示的显示标志1010(显示置1，不显示置零)，以及包括消息本身或消息文档指针的消息内容字段1012。进入电话呼叫通知一类的用于同步通信的消息类别，对于诸如系统状态消息之类的异步通信消息类别拥有显示优先级。
查验了消息类别后，辅助显示管理器再检查该消息的优先级字段。高优先级消息比正常优先级消息拥有优先级。高优先级的同步通信消息类别，从通知队列顶部插在同类消息类别与消息优先级的最后未显示消息的后面；具有正常优先级的同步通信消息类别，从通知队列顶部插在同类消息类别与消息优先级的最后未显示消息的后面；高优先级的异步通信消息类别，从通知队列顶部插在同类消息类别与消息优先级的最后未显示消息类别。最后，具有正常优先级的异步通信消息从通知队列顶部插在同类消息类别与消息优先级的最后未显示消息后面。
辅助显示管理器收到的新电话呼叫消息1002是同步通信消息，如消息类别字段1004中“电话”消息类别所示，且具有高优先级，如消息优先级字段1008中的字母“H”所示。因通知队列中设有其它未显示的高优先级同步电话消息，故把它插在队列前面。注意，消息1016也是具有高优先级的进入电话呼叫消息，但早已显示过了，如已显示标志字段所示。还得注意，新进入电话呼叫消息1002放在电子邮件消息1014的前面，后者是还未显示的异步通信消息。
图11的流程图代表辅助显示管理器在图9步骤908刷新辅助显示器所采取的步骤。首先，辅助显示管理器在步骤1102检查通知队列中是否有未显示的消息，若元，就进到步骤1110；若有，则在步骤1104在通知队列808中选择未显示的最高优先级消息。
为在步骤1004中选择通知队列808中未显示的最高优先级消息，辅助显示管理器在队列头部开始扫描通知队列，直到找出第一未显示消息。注意，供显示的最高优先级消息将是队列头部第一个未显示的消息，如前在图9步骤904描述的。本领域的技术人员将明白，其它方法也可排列队列中的消息并选择最高优先级消息在辅助显示器上显示。
在步骤1104一选出最高优先级消息，辅助显示管理器就在步骤1106显示所选的消息和在图9步骤906更新的简明信息。各消息类别有一指定其显示长度的显示周期，若在当前显示的消息被显示了指定的整个显示周期之前收到一更高优先级的消息，该较高优先级消息就取代当前消息显示。在一实施例中，向辅助显示器发送所选消息之前，辅助显示管理器先要查检该所选消息是否是与准备发送给辅助显示器的前一所选消息不同的消息，若是不同消息，就对该消息类别指定的特续时间设定显示周期；若所选消息是前一选成要发送的同一消息，则显示周期不重设。显然，在被较高优先级消息抢占之后，也可用其它方法实现对整个显示周期如何显示所选消息。
辅助显示管理器通过把所选消息和更新的简明信息送到辅助显示器作显示。若辅助显示器还备有通知指示器，如一组通知灯，则如图4描绘的那样，辅助显示管理器还对辅助显示器发送一设置消息指示器的消息，诸如使有关通知灯闪烁一定次数，然后保持稳定的光照。另外，也可产生音响指示，如上所述。对于多线显示器，同样如上所述，辅助显示管理器还可显示附加信息，如气象，股票行情自动收录器等。
向辅助显示器发送了所选消息和更新的简明信息后，辅助显示管理器就在步骤1108检查显示周期是否到期，若到期了，管理器便在步骤1110显示简明信息；若未到期，则管理器返回步骤1104，因为收到了较高优先级的消息，它在当前消息的显示周期到期之前会抢占显示。
在步骤1110，当通知队列里没有未显示的消息时，辅助显示管理器就显示简明信息。在步骤1108，若当前显示消息的显示周期到期了，则辅助显示管理器把消息的显示标志置成值1，表明该消息已显示了整个显示周期，于是管理器把简明信息送给辅助显示器显示。
图12的流程图代表辅助显示管理器收到提供显示消息更详尽信息的请求所采取的步骤。如前所述，运用控制辅助显示器输出的输入设备，用户可以请求接收有关消息更详尽的信息，或者观看所选消息。在步骤1202，管理器先查验是否收到显示更详尽信息如消息清单的请求，若未收到，便结束处理；若收到了，则管理器在步骤1204显示更详尽的信息，如消息清单。显然，利用控制辅助显示器输出的输入设备，用户可前后卷动消息清单之类的详尽信息，观看附加消息。
然后在步骤1206，辅助显示管理器查验是否收到观看所选消息的请求，若未收到，管理器就结束处理；若收到了，则在步骤1208向信息重定向器804发送请求。信息重定向器把产生通知的信息发生器802带到计算机系统上监视器的前景并向信息发生器传送该请求，因而可在主显示器上显示产生通知的信息或消息。如前所述，若信息发生器在计算机系统上的背景内不操作，则在传送观看所选消息的请求之前，信息重定向器启动在监视器前景中操作的信息发生器。
在步骤1210，辅助显示管理器从通知队列808中移去步骤1208所选的消息，再对所选消息的信息类别计数减1，在更新简明信息之后辅助显示管理器结束操作。
本领域的技术人员将明白，在另一实施例中，在一特定时段之后，会自动移出通知队列中仍然未读的消息。还将明白，可对每一消息类别配置该时段。
图13是一示例的简明用户接口屏，可对辅助显示器配置通知。用户接口屏1302显示信息类清单1304，每个信息类有一多选框，可选中该框以将它们的通知从主计算机监视器重定向到辅助显示器，例如在清单1304中选择消息计数、日程表、话音邮件、电子邮件、系统状态与媒体播放器。当用户从清单1304中选择某信息类时，用户接口在用户接口屏1302内显示模拟的辅助显示器1306，让用户看到将在辅助显示器上显示的通知类别。
用户接口屏1302还对被选的各信息类显示选项列表1308，选项包括该信息类内的特定内容，如在列表1304中加亮“日程表”信息类供选择。对该日程表提供的选项列表1308包括答应的约会、暂定的约会和要作事项列表。另外，用户接口屏还包括在标题区配置全球设定如显示时钟的选项以及在足球赛(footer)区配置设定如显示上次显示消息的选项。还可包括适合各别信息类的其它配置选项，如显示周期、可听指示器、可视指示器、消息呼叫人ID或发送人等。
如前所述，辅助显示器可位于各种场所，包括就在中央处理器底盘上或监视器边框上(如图7的辅助显示器703)，显示数据隔一段距离观看。图14示例示出在计算设备上安放辅助显示器的地点。辅助显示器1可放在移动计算机1402或小平板(未示出)的边缘或盖上，也可放在独立电话1404的正面、背面或其它表面上，或装在计算机上的电话上或与计算机附接的外设如监视器1406上或键盘上(未示出)。图15示出辅助监视器在接计算机的CPU模块1502或独立控制台1504的前面板上的其它安装法。本领域的技术人员将明白，辅助显示器可安放在任何计算设备或具有显示功能的设备的任何表面上，如装在与计算机无线或其它方式连接的手表上、遥控器上、遥控壁装单元上等。
应该指出，计算机系统不必完全为按本发明工作的辅助显示器而操作。实际上在计算机被减少动力至少到某一默认范围或用户配置的范围时，诸如当计算机系统处于睡眠态或冬眠态时，和/或当用户经安全机构与系统分离时，辅助显示器仍可工作。例如，在计算机系统断电时，用户希望电话手机与话筒工作成普通的家电，用辅助显示器作为呼叫者ID设备。该设备还可存贮数据，以后在计算机系统重新加电时传输给计算机系统，诸如包括在计算机系统未充分加电时记录收到的呼叫。
而且，在主显示器停机或不工作时(如断开)，辅助显示器可用作二次显示器，对用户给出某些信息。诸如主显示器如何上电的信息是有益的，因为在合上盖子时，用户能在接至膝上计算机的辅助显示设备上看到赴会的房间号码和/或走向。即使在带视屏的小平板PC上，主显示器也会因节能而关闭，因而辅助显示器大有益。注意，用户可根据计算机系统状态来限制显示范围，如在用户未登录时，可以只显示某些不敏感或特别受控的信息。
为在断电模式中实现和控制通信，可将辅助显示器载入可执行非易失存储器与二次处理器等一起工作，即使盘、主处理器、主显示器、网络卡和/或系统其它部件都断电了，只要有一点功率，该显示器也可工作。
虽然本发明适于各种修正和其它结构，但是其某些实施例正在图中示出并作了详述。应该理解，本发明并不限于所揭示的特定形式，相反地，本发明包罗所有落在本发明的精神和范围内的修正、替代结构和等效物。

Claims (70)

1、一种信息辅助显示系统，其特征在于包括：
计算设备，包括显示信息的主显示器接口；
信息发生器组件，用于发送显示的信息；
耦接计算设备的辅助显示器；和
操作时与信息发生器组件耦合的信息重定向器组件，所述信息重定向器组件检查供显示发送的信息，并将信息导向辅助显示器作信息辅助显示。
