The present invention relates to face masks for preventing the spread of respiratory infections Infections. In particular, the invention relates to masks used by doctors and nurses can be worn and manufactured so cheaply that they can be thrown away after a single use can.
Currently by doctors, nurses and hospital workers to prevent the spread Masks worn by respiratory infections are generally made of gauze or Muslin and sit close to the wearer's mouth. This causes some inconvenience and increases the risk of infection of the patient, since the mask of saliva containing infectious organisms, can get damp.
There are already face masks for filtering the inhaled air known to prevent the inhalation of To prevent dust. One of these known masks has a flexible porous filter element sandwiched between two rigid frames made of wood or metal that take the shape of the mouth and nose area of the face are adapted and provided with means for attaching the mask to the face. This embodiment has the disadvantage that the rigid inner frame is not completely close to the contour of the face adapts. A similarly constructed dust protection mask represents an improvement in this respect when the frame is made of elastic material, such as rubber, which is better adapts to the contour of the face. Both embodiments are relatively heavy and too expensive, to be thrown away after a single use. Therefore, the two frames must after each time Use as a surgical face mask (for which these masks are not intended per se) sterilized.
Furthermore, dust protection masks in the form of a bag are known, in which the one lying against the face of the wearer The edge of the bag is provided with a flexible, elastic strip. Such masks too are still too expensive to manufacture to be thrown away after a single use, and have therefore not been proposed as surgical face masks either.
Hierdurch vereinfacht sich das Herstellungsverfahren, da nur ein Operations-GesichtsmaskeThe invention is based on the consideration that the production of masks are significantly cheaper can, so that they are suitable for surgical masks and only need to be worn once, when A heat-deformable fiber material is used as the flexible porous material. This simplifies the manufacturing process, as there is only one surgical face mask

The surgical face mask according to the invention consists of flexible, porous material with a raised portion that fits over the wearer's nose and mouth and is provided with attachment means the mask on the face. It is characterized by the fact that this flexible, porous material is a fiber material that can be deformed under heat and the raised part as well as the upper part Edge are thermally formed.
In den Zeichnungen zeigtThe flexible porous material is preferably a so-called needle-woven fiber material, the thermoplastic Contains fibers and in particular between an upper and a lower sheet of a relatively large-meshed pulp is included. Therefore, even if the mask is made of flexible material, it touches not the wearer's mouth to prevent their wetting with saliva.

The higher the numerical value, the lower the efficiency.
Bacteriological tests of the filter efficiency have shown that masks of this type result in a 50% reduction in colony formers. In these experiments, the air passed through the mask contains a suspension of Staphylococcus Aureus 209 (3000 to 5000 viable cells per milliliter) running at a constant rate of 0.1 ml / min, have been nebulized in an aerosol chamber.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the needle-woven fiber fabric 23 (FIG. 4) serving as filter material consists of a mixture of thermoplastic fibers and cellulose fibers and is enclosed between two outer coverings or outer-side woven fabrics 21 and 22. The outer covers are made of a material that is strong enough in the direction in which the straps 18 are pulled to prevent tearing when the mask is worn. This can be done using nonwoven fibrous webs made from carded fibers bound by a binding agent such as that described in US Pat. No. 2,039,312. Preferably, however, a material with a low fineness is used, such as an open-meshed, non-woven fiber material of the type described in US Pat. No. 2,862,251. The fiber material of the two outer layers serves primarily for consolidation and can have an air penetration resistance of up to 1 mm water column at a flow rate of 85 l / min, have 100 cm 2 each, since the total resistance is not the sum of the resistances of the individual arcs, especially if they are separated by the needle-woven fiber material. The resistance of the two arches to air flow is roughly the same as that of a single arch. Open mesh, nonwoven fabrics of the type described in U.S. Patent 2,862,251 are particularly suitable for the outer layers 21 and 22 because they are inexpensive and contain a thermoplastic binder which allows the edges of the composite filter fabric to be closed by heat and pressure weld. The presence of a thermoplastic binder in the outer layers 21 and 22 also assists in bonding them to the enclosed needle-woven fibrous web 23.
A strip 14 of flexible metal is woven between the uppermost fiber fabric 21 and the needle-woven Fiber 23 laid. The edges of the covering fiber 21 and 22 go over the needle-woven fiber material 23 and are wound onto the binding cords 18. The whole thing will then welded by heat and pressure along the edges. During the molding process, the covering Fasserstoffe 21 and 22, if they also contain some thermoplastic binder, with the surface of the needle-woven fiber fabric 23 connected. This prevents the inner surface of the Fibrous material 22 is sucked back to the wearer's mouth when inhaled.
The heat deformation of the mask can also take place together with the sterilization.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 6 to 8, the raised mouth and nose part 24 has a rectangular shape Shape. The cover sheets 26 and 27 extend beyond the needle-woven filter fabric 28 and are connected to one another at 29 and 30 to form loops 31 and 32, respectively, through which the drawstrings 33 go through it. This mask becomes the outline of the face by contracting the Side margins adapted (drawstring 33 in Fig. 6). When the mask is worn, both side edges will be contracted in this way, whereby the mask assumes a cup-shaped shape so that it more easily follows the outline of the face. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 exist the front and rear outer covers 15 and 27 from a single piece of fiber material, and the overlapping edges 34 and 35 are connected to one another. In Fig. 8 consist of the outer ones Cover layers 26 and 27 made up of two separate pieces extending along the edge 36 and along the line 37 touch and form the loop 38 for receiving the drawstring 33.
The metal strip 25 is arranged in the same way as the metal strip 14 in that described above Embodiment.
