Abstract

The cooler consists of two extruded profiles (sections) having a circumferentially closed outer tube (1) and a circumferentially closed inner tube (7) which is situated with the same axis as the outer tube. The inner tube (7) has fins (10) on its outside, and the outer tube (1) has inwardly directed fins (6) at least on its inside. The level of the fins (6) and (10) measured in the radial direction is approximately equal to half the difference between the inside diameter of the outer casing (2) and the outside diameter of the inner casing (8). The casings (2 and 8) of the outer tube (1) and of the inner tube (7) are corrugated. The corrugation crests (3) and the corrugation troughs (5) extend parallel to the casing axis. Arranged on the tube ends are sealing caps via which the medium to be cooled is introduced, and which have the task of sealing off the ends of the flow chamber bounded by the two tubes (1 and 7) and subdivided by the fins (6 and 10). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a cooler, for example an oil cooler made of extruded profiles with a circumference closed outer jacket and an axially aligned circumferentially closed inner jacket, the inner jacket too at least on its outside and at least on the outside its inside radially, to the axis of the coats has parallel ribs and the two coats corresponding Have circumferential contours.

A cooler of this type is known from US Pat. No. 4,345,644 knows. In this cooler is the inner jacket and the outer jacket formed as a one-piece extruded profile, the of which two coats delimited by radial space, the Shells connecting bridges directly into individual chambers shares. The ends open at the front are ring-shaped Caps closed, which inlet and outlet openings for the possess cooling medium. These caps are on the extruded profile fastened with several screws. An extrusion tool for one such a profile can hardly be produced. Furthermore, the ver Ratio of flow cross-section to the circumferential length of the through flow cross section unfavorable. This ratio determines below the cooling capacity. Another factor that affects the cooling capacity The thickness of the medium layer is influenced considerably between two adjacent boundary surfaces of the cooler. How extensive tests have shown that the cooling capacity increases significantly if this layer or layer thickness in the range of double Friction or boundary layer thickness of the medium to be cooled is. The boundary layer here is that flow layer ver. gaseous or liquid medium along a solid wall stood in the immediate vicinity of the wall and within the the velocity of the flow asymptotically from zero the value of the external flow increases. The boundary layer thickness is the distance from the wall at which the flow ge speed has reached about 99% of the external speed. These values are known for liquid and gaseous media. For Air and water are around two millimeters, with oils (Ge  drive oils) it can reach values of up to six millimeters. For For an efficient cooler it is important that the distance of the cooling surfaces is relatively small. On the other hand, it is To design the cooler construction so that the cooler is under the roof keeping the mentioned criterion different flow rates is adaptable without the optimal flow rate speed of the medium, which is also a factor in the cooling capacity is received, changed.

The object of the invention is therefore to design a cooler in such a way that he meets these requirements, which ge according to the invention manages that at least one of the coats is corrugated, the Wave crests and wave troughs run parallel to the surface axis.

Es zeigen:The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. It demonstrate:

Fig. 6 shows a longitudinal section through a cooler in the end region.

Fig. 1 illustrates the cross section of the extruded outer tube 1 , the actual jacket 2 is wave-shaped, with an outer rib 4 and an inner rib 6 adjoining each wave crest 3 and 5 . The wave crests 3 and the wave crests 5 extend parallel to the longitudinal axis of the outer tube 1 . The wall thickness of both the actual jacket 2 and that of the ribs 4 and 6 are very small. In addition, there are many ribs 4 and 6 in front per unit length, so the rib pitch is large.

Fig. 2 illustrates the cross section of the extruded inner tube 7 , the actual jacket 8 is also wave-shaped ge in a corresponding embodiment to the jacket 2 of the outer tube 1st Outwardly directed ribs 10 adjoin the respective wave crests 9 . The division of the ribs corresponds to that of the outer jacket 1 .

To form and manufacture the cooler, the extruded tubes 1 and 2 thus configured are pushed into one another to the same length. The measured in the radial direction height H of the ribs 6 and 10 is approximately equal to half the difference between the average inner diameter D of the outer jacket 2 and the average outer diameter d of the inner jacket 8 , so that both the ribs 6 and the ribs 10 den bridge the annular space delimited by the two nested profiles radially ( FIG. 3). The outer boundary edges of the ribs 6 and 10 , which bridge the above-mentioned annular space radially, each lie in a groove-like Ver formed by the corrugation of the jackets 2 and 8 (trough), so that due to the uniform division of the mentioned annular space in a multiplicity of chambers of the same size is divided, the ribs 10 projecting outward from the inner shell 8 halving the partial space 11 delimited by two adjacent, inwardly projecting ribs 6 of the outer shell 2 .

The width of these subspaces 11 is very small, but it should be noted that FIG. 1 and also the other figures of the drawings illustrate the components on an enlarged scale. In fact, these parts are only half the size shown.

The halved subspaces 11 form the flow cross sections and the walls delimiting them, here the ribs 6 and 10 lie very close to one another, namely separated from one another by the distance a , measured in the circumferential direction. This distance a corresponds to twice the boundary layer thickness of the medium to be cooled.

If the flow cross-section shown in FIG. 3 is increased while maintaining the distance a and while maintaining the external dimensions of the cooler, an inner tube 7 is used with a smaller inner diameter, while increasing the heights H of the ribs 6 and 10 . These dimensions changes are of course only possible within certain limits, because on the one hand the diameter d of the inner tube 7 cannot be reduced arbitrarily, on the other hand the heights H of the ribs 6 of the outer tube cannot be increased as desired.

The tubes 1 and 7 pushed into one another to form the cooler are to be closed at the end. For this purpose, the end cap 15 is used , which is shown in Fig. 4 in longitudinal section. This cap 15 has two sections 16 and 17 with different diameters, as seen in the axial direction, and a central through opening 18 . In section 17 with the smaller outer diameter is an axially elongated annular space 19 which merges into a second annular space 20 provided in section 16 and open to the outside. If the annular space 19 is limited by cylindrical walls 21 and 22 , the walls 23 and 24 of the second annular space 20 are profiled, corresponding to the outer profile of the outer tube 1 and the inner profile of the inner tube 7 . This shows the view of the end cap 15 according to FIG. 5. The annular spaces 19 and 20 which merge into one another have different radial extents and are so relative to one another that a shoulder 25 is formed in the transition region between these two annular spaces 19 and 20 . A connecting piece 26 is integrally formed on the side of the end cap, specifically in section 17 .

This end cap 15 is now pushed on the end of the nested ge pipes 1 and 7 , the front edge areas of these two pipes 1 and 7 are overlapped by the annular space 20 ( Fig. 6). The end edges of these two tubes 1 and 7 lie against the shoulder 25 mentioned. The interconnected parts are glued in the mutually covered area. Due to the profiling shown here, these adhesive surfaces are very large. The end cap is advantageously made of a plastic material that has a certain elastic extensibility at least in a narrow area. If pressure surges act on the cooler during operation, then due to the elasticity of the material from which the end cap 15 is made, the annular space 20 can at least to a certain extent perform the function of an expansion space and thus relieve the adhesive surfaces. Such pressure surges can be expected if, for example, the cooler in the oil circuit of an automatic gearbox is a motor vehicle.

Instead of an adhesive connection between the tubes 1 and 7 and the cap 15 , mechanical connecting links can also be used, for example a plurality of tie rods distributed along the circumference and arranged parallel to the axis of the cooler, which are indicated in FIG. 6 by a dash-dotted line 27 . On the outer shoulder 28 of the end cap 15 , a ring-shaped bearing member 29 is then provided, also only indicated in Fig. 6, with which the ends of the tie rods 27 are braced, for example by screws.

Instead of a connecting piece 26 which is made in one piece with the end cap 15 , only a bore can also be seen in section 17 , into which a connecting nipple is then inserted.

Advantageously, the peripheral surface of section 16 of the end cap 15 is also profiled, in such a way that jagged webs 30 ( FIG. 5) are created by this profiling. A cooler of this type can, for example, be installed in a pipe, in which case these webs 30 fulfill two tasks, namely, on the one hand, to keep the cooler in the correct position in this pipe and also to limit passage openings in connection with the inside of the cooler-receiving pipe, through which the cooling medium can paint. Such a tube is indicated in FIG. 5 by the dash-dotted line 32 .

In the exemplary embodiment shown, the circumferentially closed outer and inner tubes 1 and 7 are cylindrical. It is within the scope of the invention to choose other circumferential contours, for example elliptical or polygonal. The end cap 15 is then to be formed in a corresponding manner.

In the embodiment shown, the outer contour of the outer tube 1 ( FIG. 1) is also designed to be radially symmetrical. Such a configuration is expedient if the cooler is installed in a pipeline, for example. This is the case with oil coolers for motor vehicles, in which this oil cooler is integrated into the water cooler. It is also conceivable, and it is within the scope of the invention, the outside of the outer tube 1 embodiment as to provide a bar which is pressed strand together with the tube 1 and is integrally formed therewith and indicated in Fig. 1 with a dot-dash line 14 is. Such a strip can be used to attach the cooler. If such a strip is provided, which is indicated here by the dash-dotted line 14 , the outer circumferential boundary wall 23 of the second annular space 20 from the end cap 15 is of course to be designed accordingly.

For example, without restricting the invention, some expedient dimensions for such a cooler, the is used as an oil cooler in motor vehicle construction:

Der mittlere Durch messer des Mantels 2 beträgt ferner ca. 32 mm und der mittlere Durchmesser des inneren Mantels 8 ca. 22 mm.The outer diameter of the outer tube 1 is approximately 40 mm, the outer diameter of the inner tube 7 is approximately 30 mm. The average thickness s of the ribs 4 , 6 and 10 is approximately 0.6 mm and the wall thickness of the actual jacket 2 or 8 is approximately 0.8 mm. That, furthermore, the ratio of flow cross-section on the one hand and circumferential length of the flow-through cross section on the other hand extremely low, making the Fig. 5 immediately apparent. The average diameter of the jacket 2 is also approximately 32 mm and the average diameter of the inner jacket 8 is approximately 22 mm.

When the tubes are inserted into one another, the corrugations engage in a tooth-like manner and through this tooth-like interlocking, the tubes are perfectly positioned with respect to one another, so that the outwardly projecting ribs of the inner jacket lie in the correct position in the subspace of the inwardly projecting ribs of the outer jacket and cut them in half, so that over the same geometrical relationships are present over the entire circumference of the cooler. The width a of the part spaces 11 are optimally adapted to the media to be cooled. It is possible on the basis of the proposed construction to design the elements forming the cooler in such a way that the average width a of the subspace 11 is only a few millimeters.

This amount then corresponds to twice the thickness of the boundary layer of the medium to be cooled so that an optimal cooling performance can be waited.

In addition, it should also be noted that the ribs 4 , 6 and 10 can be delimited by flat surfaces and surface sections, but that it is also possible to slightly undulate the surface of these ribs. Finally, it should also be mentioned that several oil coolers of the design described here can be combined into groups and combinations.
