In letzterem Falle hat man noch den besonderen Vorteil, daß die Kennzeichnung ,des Papiers durchaus unauffällig und äußerlich unsichtbar ist. Die Einverleibung in die Papiermasse kann sowohl in eüiem beliebigen Stadium der Papierfabrikation wie auch in das fertige Papier, sei es durch Tränken, Aufspritzen, Drucken oder in beliebiger anderer Weise geschehen. Gemäß vorliegender Erfindung soll indessen das Auftragen der Stoffe in solcher Weise erfolgen, daß .die Papierstruktur selbst dadurch keine nennenswerte Änderung erfährt, also beispielsweise nicht vollständig davon bedeckt wird. Besonders vorteilhaft ist es, die Stoffe der erwähnten Art in Form von bestimmten oder unbestimmten Mustern in flie- Papiermasse oder auf das fertige Papier aufzubringen.
