Abstract

This packaging made of cardboard and capable of containing fragile objects is of the type which has the cover fixed by gluing of a tab on one of its sides, this tab having a longitudinal tearing line which makes it possible to open the packaging. It consists of a receptacle 2 and of an added cover 3 constituted by a sheet of cardboard, folded into a U so that its sides come to cover the top and two opposite lateral faces of the receptacle 2, which is stuck onto the latter along each of its longitudinal edges and has a longitudinal tearing line 6 above the gluing zone 5. Description

The present invention relates to cardboard packaging or the like, which advantageously act as displays for the objects or the goods they contain.

We sought better protection of these objects or goods which are transported in these packages and which are sometimes fragile (glassware, dishes, etc.), as well as an ease of opening the package without destroying it. , allowing to keep the always protected objects, in the packaging, after its opening.

It has also been sought that the glasses, bottles, flasks or similar wrapped objects are as much as possible demonstrated without the effectiveness of the protection of these objects being thereby diminished.

To this end, the packaging according to the invention, capable of containing fragile objects, the cover of which is fixed by gluing a tab on one of its sides, this tab having a longitudinal tear line allowing the opening of the packaging, is essentially characterized in that it consists of a tray and an attached cover, consisting of a sheet of cardboard, folded in a U so that its sides are applied against two opposite lateral faces of the tray, glued on the latter along each of its longitudinal edges and having a tear line on one of its flanks above the bonding area.

According to the simplest embodiment of the present invention, the tray will be chosen parallelepiped and the cover will be obtained from a rectangular blank folded in a U so as to completely cover the top and two opposite lateral faces of the tray.

The top of the cover will advantageously have an opening or window revealing some of the articles contained in the tray.

The latter will be carried out in a known manner, for example by cutting, setting in volume and gluing a rectangular cardboard blank comprising four fold lines at an equal distance along each of its edges, which is set in volume in forming four interior flaps which are glued against the lateral faces of the tray. It is also possible to form tongues in the extension of the lateral faces of the tray or only of two lateral faces opposite the tray. These tabs, which will be folded over the upper part of the tray, will be useful to strengthen the sides, to avoid buckling and improve the tightness of the packaging.

It is also possible to provide, inside the tray, means for retaining the articles which are housed there. For example, punctures are made in the side walls of the tray, thus forming tabs which are folded inwards and between which the objects will be wedged.

The U-shaped cover according to the present invention has two objects:

• - Give the box an additional solidity, which is appreciable in particular in the case where the lateral faces of the tray had to serve to constitute the wedging tongues; in accordance with the invention, the U-shaped cover will form another thickness on these lateral faces.
• - Temporarily close the packaging after tearing along the lateral line provided for this purpose, by folding down the part of the cover which is thus released.

In accordance with the present invention, a display packaging is also produced, the closure method of which is the same. than that described above and which is such that the glasses or similar wrapped objects are clearly visible, but cannot escape.

To this end, the bottom of the U-shaped cover is pierced with curved openings, in a number equal to that of the glasses or similar objects to be housed, through which a side portion of these glasses extends beyond, the cutting of these openings having made it possible to release along each of the longitudinal edges of the bottom, openings or legs of a shape more or less similar to that of the successive protruding parts, respectively of the rims and the feet of the glasses which they are intended to protect.

In addition, if it is desired that the glasses are visible on each side, the parallelepipedal tray of this embodiment will be replaced by a tray whose bottom has openings corresponding to the shapes of the glasses, releasing openings or tabs coming from apply against the protruding parts of the drinkers and the feet of the glasses and this in a manner analogous to the cover, the closure of this packaging-display being always the same.

The packaging 1 shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 in the closed position consists of a rectangular box formed by a tray 2 and a U-shaped cover 3.

The tray 2 is of the conventional type; it consists of a simple rectangular sheet of cardboard with two longitudinal fold lines and two transverse fold lines, around which are folded at right angles marginal bands released by cutting at each angle according to a triangular notch for example, reserving a tab 2a. These marginal strips - longitudinal 2b and transverse 2c - which are, moreover, of equal height, form the volume of the tray and are kept vertical by bonding the tabs 2a, as can be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3. In addition, each of the transverse bands 2c can be extended by a tongue 2d (Figures 2 and 3), which is folded over the upper part of the tray 2, and whose role is mainly to help strengthen the packaging.

Objects 4 (glasses in FIG. 1) are placed in the tray 2 where they are held, for example by means of tongues formed by cutting the lateral faces of the tray 2.

The U-shaped cover 3 is applied to the tray 2 so that its sides 3a coincide with the two longitudinal side faces of the tray 2, where they are stuck there in the vicinity of their longitudinal edges, in the areas indicated by the reference figure 5.

Above one of these zones 5, the flank 3a of the U-shaped cover 3 has a longitudinal tear line 6, preformed in the carton. We can also, as shown in Figure 1, provide that this line 6 stops in the vicinity of each of the edges of the flank 3a on which it is practiced, where it forms two detachable tabs 7, in a semicircle for example, which will be removed first, thus facilitating the release of the part of the U-shaped element 3, forming the cover proper which can be folded down again by inserting it inside the tray 2, that is that is, as shown in FIG. 3, between the bottoms of the feet of the glasses 4 and the longitudinal flank 2b of the tray.

In the bottom 3b of the U-shaped element 3, it is possible to provide an opening or window 8 revealing the objects 4 inside the tray 2. It is advantageously possible to double the latter, in this part made visible only, by a color sheet to highlight the merchandise thus displayed.

It is also possible, according to the present invention, to choose a cover which leaves visible a side face of each of the glasses. Such a cover is shown in solid lines in FIG. 4. Its bottom 3b has a series of curved openings 9, the curvature of which depends on that of the glasses to be packaged 4, as they form with respect to one of the sides 3a of the cover of the tabs 10, the height of which is provided slightly greater than the projecting part of the base 11 of the glasses 4 once lying in the tray 2 (FIG. 6); similarly, at their opposite end, these openings 9 are curved so as to constitute openings 12 - corresponding substantially to the shape of the protruding parts of the rims 11a of the glasses 4 - of the other side 3a of the cover 3; it is folded in a U along sections of longitudinal fold lines 13a and 13b, in line with one another, which join the sides of the openings 9 and are interrupted by the tabs 10 on the one hand and the openings 12 d 'somewhere else; we thus create between the arê your folds 13a and 13b and the openings 9, areas 14 large enough to produce a nice decor by printing, or to provide the purchaser with information on the contents of the packaging.

FIG. 4 does not show the tear line 6 which must be provided on one of the sides 3a of the cover 3.

Figures 5 and 6 also show that the glasses 4 have no possibility of escaping, in particular the areas 14 blocking the cups of the glasses 4. In addition, each of the latter is wedged in the tray 2 by four tabs 15, two being released by punctures for example formed obliquely in a side wall 2b of the tray 2 and coming to be placed on either side of the base 11 of the glass 4, and the other two being formed by notches from the upper edge of the other side wall 2b of the tray 2 and fitting into the cup of the glass 4.

In addition, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 7, it is possible to show the two sides of the packaged objects 4 and it suffices for this that the bottom of the tray 2 has the same characteristics as the cover 3 of FIGS. 4 to 6.

It is moreover of course understood that the embodiment which has been described above has been given as an indication and in no way limitative, and that numerous modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (7)

1.- Cardboard or similar packaging likely to contain fragile objects, in particular glasses, the cover of which is fixed by gluing a tab on one of its sides, this tab having a longitudinal tear line allowing the opening packaging, characterized in that it consists of a tray 2 and an attached cover 3, consisting of a sheet of cardboard, folded in a U so that its sides are applied against two opposite lateral faces of the tray 2, glued on the latter along each of its longitudinal edges and having a longitudinal tear line 6 on one of its sides 3a, above the bonding zone 5. 2. Box according to claim 1, characterized in that the tear line 6 stops in the vicinity of each of the edges of the sidewall 3a where it forms two precut tabs 7. 3.- Box according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that reinforcement tabs 2d, are formed in the extension of the side faces of the tray 2 or two side faces facing the tray 2 and come to fall on the upper part of the latter. 4.- Box according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that punctures are formed in the side walls of the container 2 thus forming tabs which are folded inwards and between which the objects 4 will be stalled. 5.- Box according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the cover 3 completely covers the top and two opposite side faces of a tray 2 parallelepiped, the bottom 3b of the cardboard folded in U forming the top of the cover 3 having if necessary an opening 8 revealing some of the objects 4 contained in the tray 2, which can be lined internally in its visible part thus formed. 6.- Box according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the bottom of the U-shaped cover is pierced with curved openings 9, in number equal to that of the glasses or similar objects 4 to be housed, through which extends beyond a lateral part of these glasses, the cutting of these openings 9 having made it possible to release, along each of the longitudinal edges of the bottom 3b of the openings 12 or of the legs 10 of a shape more or less similar to that of the successive protruding parts respectively of the drinkers 11a and bases 11 of glasses 4 that they are intended to protect. 7.- Box according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that it comprises a cover 3 such as that which is defined in claim 6 and a tray 2 whose bottom has the same characteristics as this cover 3 , the packaged objects 4 thus being visible from both sides of the packaging.
