Abstract

The mechanism is for maintaining balance in the pick-up of loads by hydraulic cranes or dredgers, and involves a hinged, suspended counterweight capable of balancing the supporting vessel in any position by displacement of the centre of gravity. The counterweight is also connected by rods to the front arm (4) of an articulated arm lifting mechanism (2). Via these rods (6) the centre of gravity is displaced a second time in order to balance the lifting mechanism. A final adjustment is made by the pressure in the articulated arm cylinder being transferred to an auxiliary cylinder which automatically then corrects the counterweight. The arrangement enables a 75 per cent saving in engine power for activating the crane.
