Definitions
- the invention relates to table and decorative objects according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the protective lacquer also known as plating
- the protective varnish prevents discolouration due to sulfur tarnishing and, due to its water resistance, makes cleaning the objects easier.
- This firmly adhering protective lacquer is applied in such a way that the silver-plated parts are dipped in a lacquer based on cellulose or synthetic resin and are so slowly removed from this that a relatively thin, approximately 2 and. Film remains. The protective lacquer layer is then baked.
- this known protective coating has the disadvantage that it is sensitive to mechanical damage. The silver-plated objects treated in this way therefore require special protection during shipping and sale in the form of suitable packaging.
- the protection of sensitive metal surfaces and other polished surfaces by means of a protective coating is known from the magazine "Machine Moderne", No. 803, March 1976, pages 29 and 30.
- the cover serves as transport protection.
- the type of coating for example polyvinyl chloride, has only a protective function. It is important that no harmful reaction with the surface of the object is to be feared and that the protective coating can be removed under certain circumstances using solvents. Such a protective coating is not expected to have an optical effect.
- the protective coating for surfaces made of silver described at the outset has the disadvantage that the resistance to mechanical damage cannot be increased at the same time as the water resistance. This is noticeably noticeable when items of the type described are sold in department stores, self-service shops and such places, where they are exposed to direct public access. Packaging that is only partially transparent does not allow the customer to view the object from all sides and is also complex. Packaging that is transparent on all sides, such as transparent bags or foils, does not allow the packaged goods to have a satisfactory visual effect and is therefore unsuitable for exhibition purposes, especially in shop windows or showcases.
- the object of the invention is to provide objects of the type described at the outset with additional protection, at least for the time of offering or exhibiting, without optical impairment.
- the object is achieved by the feature of claim 1.
- the transparent lacquer coating surrounds the silver or silver-plated object on all sides and thus protects it both from mechanical and other influences from manufacture to at least sale.
- the lacquer coating lies so close to the protective lacquer that it does not impair the optical effect of the silver or silver-plated surface or not significantly. It also allows easy cleaning if the objects are contaminated by dust or touch.
- the respective item can be in its undamaged original condition with its protective coating, ie. H. Vern mich, brought by peeling off the varnish.
- the lacquer layer according to the invention thus differs from the protective lacquers which are known for a wide variety of objects and are applied in several sequences one above the other, for which it is essential that they adhere well to one another.
- the fact that a second lacquer coating similar to the first lacquer coating and which can be applied in a similar process can be removed from the first lacquer coating in a simple manner and without leaving any traces is contrary to this conventional view of protective lacquers.
- lacquer coating Another advantage of the lacquer coating is the hermetic seal, which prevents efflorescence and small areas of corrosion, even in extremely humid, warm climates.
- the plasticizers ensure that the lacquer coating remains elastic at least until the article is sold and is therefore easy to remove.
- the varnish coating is based on polyvinyl chloride.
- the lacquer coating can be removed easily once it has been detached at one point. This can be done, for example, by scratching with a wooden object.
- the lacquer coating can contain one or more tear strips to make it easier to remove. They not only save you from scratching; they also clearly show the customer that the lacquer coating is an additional shell intended for removal.
- the tear strip can advantageously consist of absorbent material, such as paper or plastic woven or non-woven, and can be attached by partially placing it on the still wet lacquer coating, the free part of the tear strip advantageously projecting beyond the edge of the object. Tear-off strips of this type can additionally receive an imprint, for example an indication of the double coating.
- the decorative plate 1 is circular with a central, also circular recess 1a. It is made of silver. Its silver surface 2, as can be seen from FIG. 2, is coated with a protective coating which has a thickness of 2-4 1 1 m. It prevents sulfur build-up during use and makes cleaning the object easier.
- the decorative plate 1 is provided with a transparent lacquer coating with a thickness between 50 and 80 11 m above the protective coating 3. It lies close to the protective coating without connecting to it. The visual impression of the silver surface is fully preserved despite the lacquer coating.
- the lacquer coating which is based on polyvinyl chloride, contains plasticizers that do not migrate into the protective alloy and do not evaporate, even at 60 ° C. At a temperature of up to 40 ° C, they maintain the elasticity of the lacquer coating for a long time in such a way that the lacquer coating can be removed from the decorative plate 1.
- the lacquer coating 4 is provided with tear strips 5. They are partially embedded between the protective coating 3 and the lacquer coating 4 and have a freely projecting section to be touched.
- the lacquer coating 4 is intended to keep the decorative plate in perfect condition from its completion to the customer without impairing its appearance.
- the decorative plate can be seen from all sides. It can be displayed and touched, for example in self-service shops. Contamination or minor mechanical damage is absorbed by the coating and does not touch the protective coating.
- the lacquer coating can be removed at the sale or at the customer's before using the decorative plate in a simple manner by first peeling off the coating by means of the tear strips at one or more points and then removing the whole of the decorative plate. This leaves the remaining, durable protective coating intended for long-term use free. It has a new, clean and smooth surface.
- the invention is not restricted to the exemplary embodiment.
- the shape and size of the table or decorative object is completely free.
- the object can only be silvered on the surface.
- the surface coating according to the invention including the lacquer coating, can also be applied to partial surfaces of objects which consist of different materials and only partially have silver or silver-plated surfaces.
- the tear strips make it easier to remove the varnish; however, this can also be removed by scratching it with a wooden object at a starting point.
- a preferred embodiment of the lacquer coating consists of 30% copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl alcohol as a binder, 60% ethyl acetate and xylene as a solvent and 10% phthalate and higher alcohols as plasticizers.
