Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a road safety installation for the emission of audible messages.
When driving a motor vehicle, the driver of the vehicle is guided in his driving by the road signs which line the road. The driver is therefore required to pay close attention to the observation of traffic signs and their meanings, in order to have a safe drive and thus avoid the risk of accident as much as possible. The driver's gaze should also be directed from time to time on the speedometer, so as not to exceed the authorized speed limits, and on the mirrors to monitor traffic behind his vehicle. Owing to these various obligations, it is obvious that the various danger, stop and priority signs, for example, are often overlooked for various reasons. It therefore appears of the utmost importance, to increase road safety, to warn the driver of a motor vehicle of a situation or danger already materialized by the existence of a fixed road sign.
The installation according to the invention was designed for this purpose and it makes it possible to ensure optimal information for a driver by sound, thanks to a particularly simple combination of means.
To this end, this road safety installation for emitting sound messages is characterized in that it comprises, for each type of traffic sign fixed along a roadway, a device emitting a coded infrared radiation signal corresponding to the type of traffic sign with which it is associated and, on each vehicle traveling on the road, a device receiving the coded infrared radiation signal from the fixed emitting device and transforming it into a clear audio message sent to the driver of the vehicle, the emitting device comprises a current source supplying, via an encoder an emitter of infrared radiation so that the device emits, in the direction of vehicles arriving on the roadway, the coded infrared signal, and a sound level detector or sound sensor which controls a normally open and closed switch, to activate the transmitting device, when the sound sensor perceives the noise emitted by the engine of a vehicle, and the receiving device comprises an infrared radiation sensor which is mounted on the vehicle, at the front thereof, inside or outside, this sensor being connected, to a decoder whose output is connected to a appropriate audio message selector.
- FIG. 1 is a block diagram of an emission road safety installation according to the invention.
- FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a coded infrared radiation emitter used in the installation according to the invention.
- Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along line III-III of Figure 2.
The installation according to the invention which is represented schematically as a whole in FIG. 1, comprises, for each type of traffic sign fixed along a roadway, a
The
The receiving device 3 comprises an
Consequently, when a vehicle approaches at a predetermined distance from a traffic sign P equipped with a
As can best be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3, the
As shown diagrammatically in FIG. 3, the infrared radiation emitter 6 can advantageously be mounted on a
The installation according to the invention can also comprise, on each
According to another alternative embodiment, the installation may comprise, in addition to the infrared radiation emitter 6 automatically put into service when approaching a vehicle, a second
One can also plan to use at will a single infrared emitter to emit either the normal signal i associated with the panel P, or the special coded signal i2 to indicate an emergency situation.
