being capable of adjustment to regulate 'the amount of syrup or other liquid discharged,-
'and automatically resetting itself"4 for subse4 quent use. 4
The details of my invention will be pointed out hereinafter, reference being made to the accompanying: drawings, in which:
Figure 1, is a sectional elevation of a soda water dispensing' cabinet, showing 4my irnproved p umpingr structure in the position of use; Fig 2, is an enlarged sectional view oi. the pumping structure in the act of delivering a charge., and Fig'. 3, is a viewiillustrating a detail of my invention.
.in the accompanying drawings, 1 .represents a soda water disiiensing cabinet, having a counter 2, and beneath the same an ice Ichamber 3 and pockets 4 for the reception of syrupjars 5,'Which jars are susecijitible of removlil in the usual or ordinary manner, as indicated by dotted lines. Covering the syrup jar is a plate 6. marble., metal, or other suitabie material, which plate supports the mechanism forming the Iiinpno'ved lrmnnpinL structure comprising my invention. r.llghe plate completely covers the jar and rests in the inclined position shown, the :Front slab 7 of the ,cabinet being` recessed.
at 8 for the front edge of said plate.
The pumping,r structure comprises a cuplilre member 10 having arms 10;l connected to a tubular stem 11, the upper end of which is threaded `into a collar 12 and secured in position relatively to said .Collar by menus of a lock nut 13. -To fa Jilitate cleansing, the tube 11 is made with openings 11l The syrup jars have pockets or recesses 14 in the ottoni of the same to receive the cup-like member 10. Carried by the plate 6 .is a mem- .ber 15, to whichthe collar 12 is secured; suoli and member 15 and is threaded into a suit able knob or handle 19. This knob has an .elongated hollow stem passing into the member 15 as shown, vthe hollow portion providing for the reeeption o* esuitable `which passes through the tploular stein 11 spring 21, 'whereby the piston 17 carried at the lower end of the rod 18 is maintained normally in the upper partfof the cup-likeA member 10; the arms 10 of said member he ing provided With stops 22 to limit the np- Wardl movement of the piston.
The delivery pipe for the syrup isV indicated at"25 and this pipe extends from the cup-lilge member 10 to theV member 15, into which it is threaded at 26, said pipe also passing through the piston 17 and one of the supporting,r arms 10 of the cup 'i0 in the manner shown and thereby serrinn to prevent the piston turning when the structure is operated. The bottoni 27 of the cup-likc member is threaded into the .me in the manner shown, `and is prou with ya notched boss 28Onits under side to 'acili- -tate the engagement and disengagement of these parts, which may bey accomplished by the aid o" an ordinary screw driver. The arms 10EL have lugs 29 which serve to guide andV center `the saine in 'the pocket or recess 14 of the `iai'.
To liinit1 the downward movement of t rod carrying the piston and thereby lirn the stroke of the piston and the amount ofi."
syrup discharged, the member l proridedmwitli an adjustable sleeve 30 which surrounds the stem 2O ot the knob in the manner clearly shown. Then said sleeve set all. the Way in as illustrated in Fig: 2, operation ot the piston 1T will cause tbe delivery o a full charge of syrup, fruit juice, or other liquid within the jar. When tended, however, any distance, such for instance as indicated in Fig. 3, said sleeve will. serve to limit the depression of the piston by its engagement with the knob 1), and hence materially limit the amount oi2 syrup disch arged.
It Will be observed in reference to my structure that it is Wholly scltwcontained;
ica
that the delivery spout is Vfixed with respect to the fountain structure so that it is not necessary to shift the glass relatively to said delivery spout when operating the pump; thatqsaid pumpcarries its own Well, and thatfthe outlet pipe of. thesyrup passes through the piston and one of theI support must usually be raised to a point above the piston In some cases the piston is lifted chamber Where the inlet thereto is uncovered at the end of the upward stroke of the endirely out of the piston chamber and on attempting to reenter same on the downvWard stroke is apt tomove out of elinement and. strike onthe edge of the chamber, thereby damaging the piston.
.A further feature of my Vinvention consists'in the fact that the means for adjust- .ng the length of stroke of the piston and .consequently the amount of syrup discharged, are located wholly exterior of the syrup jar and its cover, and consequently such adjustment can be made without removing the pumping structure from the syrup jar.
The combination, in a, dispensing upperatus, of a jar having a Well or depression in the bottom of the sume, a tubular member, :t deliveryspout, a cup secured to said tubular member and` fitting within the well of' the syrup jar, a rod movable within said tubular member, a piston carried by the same und arranged to operate Within the cup, arms carried by the cup for guiding the piston, a handle to which said rod is attached, means for returning the rod to its normal position after depression, an outlet tube leading from saidcup and connected to the delivery spout, said tube passing through the piston und one of the arms of the cup, and means for limiting the upward movement of the piston.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence l of two subscribing witnesses.
