ROBERT J. FOSTER, 0F LESTERSHIRE, NEW YORK.
BEVELED STRAIGHT-EDGE FOR HEEL-BUILDING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT J. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lestershire, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beveled Straight-Edges for Heel-Building, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in beveled straight edges for heel building in shoes, and the objects of my improvement are to provide a simple means for cutting odd strips of leather so as to produce an edge when cutting, adapted to form the most perfect union with the edge of the opposite strip or piece.
-I attain these objects by the mechanisms illustrated in the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure 1 is a perspective rear view. Fig. 2 is a perspective front view. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, and Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on line L-4 of Fig. 3.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing, A represents the blade having the beveled cutting edge B. In the lower edge of the blade body are produced the slots 1 and 2.
C represents the chair on which the blade body A, rests, while D represents the raised back of the chair against which the blade A is fastened. In the chair back A, are mounted two screw bolts, E and E.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 23, 1910.
Patented Nov. 21, 1911.
Serial No. 568,563.
In operation I slip the blade body down over the bolts E and E, the slots passing over the bolts E and E, and I then screw up the bolts andthe blade body is held firmly in place against the back D. In operation I hold the leather upon the beveled blade, and strike the leather with a maul, thus cutting it in two parts. The part held in the hand having the required beveled edge, the part out 01f being waste, which to use has to be beveled again the same as the part held in the hand. Heretofore the piece after being straight edged was run through a separate machine for beveling the edge; by my device the leather is beveled and straight edged by one and the same operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:
A scarfing straight edge for sheet material comprising a base, a vertical support formed integrally thereon, a blade adjustable vertically on said support, and a taper cutting edge on said blade and disposed at an angle thereto.
In testimony whereof I have afliXed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT J. FOSTER.
