FRANK U. WAGNER, 0F MILFORD, INDIANA.

PICTURE-BOOK.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed October 31, 1908.

Patented June 11, 1912.

Serial No. 460,509.

To @ZZ whom fit may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK U. VAGNER, citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Books, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a picture book and has for its object to lprovide a book having on its leaves incomplete pictures or designs which are completed by a design on the cover of the book visible through the incomplete portions of the pictures on the leaves. The blank or incomplete portions of the pictures are holes in the leaves, and the design on the cover is in relief and is visible through the holes.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of the book. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the book open. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. l.

Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the front cover; 6 the back cover; and 7 the leaves of a book. On the inside of the back cover is a picture or a design 8. This is a human figure, the head 9 of which is in relief. Each leaf contains a picture or design 10 having a blank portion which is made by cutting a hole 11 in the leaf. In the present instance the pictures are human figures in various poses, the holes 10 being in place of the heads of said gures. The holes are all in line with the relief 9 which is visible therethrough thus completing the pictures on the leaves.

When the book is opened at any of its leaves the relief will be brought into view through the holes 11 so that the pictures l0 will be displayed in complete forni. If desired, the front cover can also be provided with a picture l2 anda hole adapted to cooperate with the relief 9 in the same manner as the pictures and holes of the leaves.

The invent-ion can also be applied to tablets, calendars and various advertising devices and novelties.

The relief can be made of rubber, papiermch or other suitable material. v

I claim A book having designs on its leaves and on the inside of its rear cover, a portion of the cover design being formed in relief, and

a portion of theedesign on each leaf being cut Y away to provide a sight opening, all of said openings registering with each other4 and with the cover design to form a passage yinto which the relief portion of the cover design projects, to complete the design of any leaf at which the book is opened, and to emphasize the completed port-ion of such design.

In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.

FRANK U. WAGNER. Witnesses:
