To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CHAnLns H. Conn, of Pueblo, in the county-of Pueblo and State' of Colorado, have inventedeertam new and useful Improvementsin Sectional Cylinder.
Air-Jackaof which the following is a specication. Y -y This invention relates to fluid actuated lifting jacks, and it-has particular'reference with a piston which isfmountedon -a piston' to that class of fluid actuated lifting jacks in which a plurality" `=l' of cylinders are arranged tandem, `each'cylinder being equipped stem .which is common'to all the cylinders.
The presentv invention 'has for its object to simplify and improve thetypeof lifting` jacks to which reference is made above, a.
particular object being to produce a lifting jack which is mainly built upof units of similar construction, thus economiz'ing in the manufacture and enabling repalrs to be made when necessary at small expense.v e
With these and other ends in' view, which will readily appear as the nature ofthe invention is better understood, the same conf sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parte which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out vin the claims. In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the inventiomit being, however, understood that no 'limitation is .necessarilymade to the precise' structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifica- -tions within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing the vsingle figure represents a vertical sect-ionalview of a fluid actuated lifting jack constructed in accordance with the invention. u
The improved implement may be made up.
' of any desired number'of cylinder unitsv 1 whichV are ofvsimilar' construction and dixnensions, said cylinder units being exteriorly threaded at both,v ends, and each unit being provided'near its .upper end with a vent aperture 4. The several units 'areconnected together by means of internally threaded bands o16 collars 8.- 'lhe lowermost unit is threaded into a base 6, andfthe t0pmost unit is provided with a cap or head 7 having a centralfaperture for the passage of the piston stem .2.' The meeting ends ofl the cylinder units abut .upon .diaphragms l2 which arecentrally apertured for the paswhich operates therethrough.

Eachof the diaphragme 12 is provided with suit-ably arranged packing 5 engaging that' portion of` the piston stem Connected with each of the cylinder units nearvthe lower end thereof is a feed pipe9, the several feed' pipes being connected in series by a stand pipe 21 having at its upper The lowermost ,inlet pipev has an inlet'valve 17, and it is con-A nected by means of a ilexible duct 10 with'a source of supply, not shown, of fluid presvvalve 15 is closed, fluid under pressure may be admitted at the valve 17, said fluid being. distributed; through `the inlet pipe 9 and stand pipe Q1 to the several cylinder units beneath the pistons which are thereby impelled to rise, the vent openings 1 serving to relieve any pressure above the pistons.-
-B rovidirw a luralit of )istons` as here in shown, a -relatively great area is subjected to the fluid pressure which may thus be very eifectively utilized for the purpose of raising heavy weights.I To restore the pistons to their initial position, the supply valve 17 isl closed, and the pressure may now be gradually relieved at the valve 15, permitting the pistons and the stem to settle by gravity.
