covnn FOR ooL APsIBLE T BES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oct.22,1912'.
Application filed February 6, 1912. Serial No. 675,783.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. STIoHTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New, York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers. for Collapsible Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved cover for a collapsible tube.
A further object of the invention is to make the cover a sliding one instead of a rotatable one.
Another object of my invention is to provide a perforation therein which when the cover is sealed in place will be out of register with the opening in the end of the tube and which when the cover is unsealed can be moved to register with the opening in the tube, permitting the removal of the contents of the tube.
My invention also includes means for sealing the cover in place and guiding it in its movement.
These and other objects of my invention will be fully illustrated in the drawings, de-
scribed in the specification and pointed out in the claim at the end thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a collapsible tube, fitted with my improved cover. Fig. 2 is a perspect-ive View of the tube with the cover part-1y withdrawn. Fig. 3 is a side eleva tion of the tube viewed at right angles to the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a.
top plan view of the tube with the cover shown in the position indicated. byFigs. 1 and 2. Fig. 5 is a top lan view of the tube with the cover part y removed. Fig.
- dicates an ordinary collapsible tube having a top 2 which is solid and integral therewith.
This top has the shape of a truncated wedge inverte Through this top extends a hole 3 of any desired shape which communicates with the interior of the tube. On this top is mounted to slide a cover 4 made of a single sheet of metal, the blank for which is shown in Fig. 7. The sides of this cover 4: are bent along the lines indicated by the dotted. lines in Fig. 7 so as to fit the under sides of the solid top 2 of the tube. At the ends the cover is provided with the flexible guard tabs 5 and 6, by which the cover is locked in place between the ends of the top. In Figs. 1 and 4 I have shown the guard tabs bent down holding the cover in position to seal up the content-s of the tube. In Fig. 2 I have shown the cover moved so that the hole therein registers with the opening in the top of the tube, so that by squeezing the tube -tl1e contents of the tube may be expre ssedthrough said opening. It will also be 'understood that the coverrmay-be removed altogether from the top to facilitate tlie expressing of the contents from the tube. The guard tabs 5 and Gareiflexible so that .they can be straightened out v.or bent down as the opening and closing of the tube may necessitate, a rrumber' of times. The ,hole in the top of the tube may be of any desired shape or any preferred location, and the shape of the top ofithe tube and the coverv plate may be variedwithin wide limits without materially departing from the spirit of my invention. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and patentable is as follows:
The combination of a receptacle having a top therefor, the sides of said 'top being undercut so that the. top has the shape of an inverted truncated wedge, a cover for said top formed of a single sheet of metal, having the sides thereof bent down and under to form a sliding engagement with said top, guard tabs at each end of said cover being capable of being bentdown over the ends of'said cover for, the purpose of locking it in place, an opening through said top into vthe receptacle, an opening through said cover plate normally out of line with the opening in said top, said cover plate being movable longitudinally to bring its opening into register with the opening in the top.
In'testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH L. sTIoHTER.
