IMPROVEMENT IN LIBRARY SHEARS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, Louis Phase, of Boston, in the vou'nty'uf Suffolk 'and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and -useful Improvement in Library Shears; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accomparry-king drawing forming part of this specification, in w no 1- The figure is a side view of my improved library shears.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved library shears which shall be so constructed as to serve as a shears, paper-knife, eraser, letter-folder, and seal, thus comprising within itself many of the tools that a librarian or clerk'most frequently requires, and which shall be so constructed as to boas conveniently used for each of its uses as if that particular use was the only one for which it was intended; and It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the shears, as hereinaftermore fully described.
A and B are'the blades of the shears, and a. and b are the respective handles of said blades.
One of the blades, as A, is made wide, and its outer edge 0 is drawn down thin, as shown in the figure, to adapt the said blade to serve as a paper-knife.
The forward part D of the edge 0 is so formed that it may be conveniently used as an eraser.
Upon the end of one of the handles, as b, is formed a letter or paper-folder, E, as shown in the drawing, and upon the outer side of the other handle is formed a seal, F. These different appliances are so arranged that neither of them will interfere with either of the other uses for which the shears are intended.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A library shears, formed by the combination of paper-knife G, and eraser D, with the blades AB, and handles a b, as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. An improved library shears, formed by the combination of the paper-knife O, eraser D, paper or letter-folder E, and seal 1*, with the blades A B and handles a 71, substantially as herein shown and described, andfor the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 14th day of May, 1870. i
\ LOUIS PRANG.
