TYPE-WRITE? HOLDER,
Patented Apr.22, 1913.
T0 all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, Louis Fox, a citizen of the-United States, anda resident of Stevenson, in the county of Skamania and State of Washington, have'invented a new and Improved Type-Writer. Holder, 'of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to adjustable supports or brackets, and has particular reference to a device of this character adapted for supporting a typewriting machine upon a table or desk so that it may be swung around or housed out of the way when not in use.
The object of this invention is to cheapen and simplify this class of devices, and at the same time make them more convenient and reliable in actual operation.
Theforegoing and other objects of the invention are attained. by/ ,means of the mechanism hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention shown as attached to the corner of a table or desk; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional detail of the bracket support; and 3 of which there branch is a detail in elevation of the mechanism for lockingthe bracket upon the frame. 6
In carrying this invention into practice, in a preferred embodiment thereof, I indicate at 10 a frame of any suitable outline and construction, but shown as comprising vertical posts 11 and 12 connected by any means of lugs 15 invertical alinement with each other, and thereby constitutes a vertical axis for the frame 10. The frame, therefore, being located at a corner of the desk structure, isadapted to swing around through an angle of substantially 270.
The bracket 16 comprises a substantially vertical standard 17 from the upper portion pairs of arms 18 and 19,the inner ends of the arms being connected to the standard in vertical spaced relation and their outer ends extending into substantially the same horizontal plane and there terminating in cups 20 or other suitable means for positive connection with the usual types of-typewriting machines indicated at M in dotted lines in Fig. 1- The and 14.
bracket, therefore, is of the maximum strength considering the amount of materlal of which; it is composed and is unusually neat in appearance. I
The bracket standard 17 is adjustable vertically in or through the tubular frame post 12 and is adapted to be sustained in any vertical position of adjustment by a locking device shown. herein as comprising a dog 21 pivoted at 21 on the outside of said post- 12 and having its nose projecting through a slot 12*? in the wall of the post and into engagement with any one of a series of notches 17 of said standard." I- may journal the post-12 in the vertically alined sleeves 13 and 14a of the frame cross bars and connect to the upper end of said post 12 a I collar-or flange 22 having a seriesof notches 22* into. any one of whichnotches a bolt 23 is adapted to be sna ped and held by a spring 24, said bolt an spring being housed within a sleeve'25 clamped to the bar 13. The standard 17 is conveniently formed polygonal and is slidable vertically through corresponding holes in said collar 22 and a collar 26 within the post 12, whereby the bracket will be sustained in a substantially stable position within the hollow cylindrical vpost 12. The lower end of the post 12 has connected to it a nut 27 which prevents dis placement of the post from the frame cross bar 14 and the said post is prevented from downward displacement by thecollar 22. It will appear, therefore, that the bracket 16 may be adjusted up or down and secured in such position by means of the dog 21 indethe means 23 for preventing said rotation. The several parts of the device may be made of any suitable materials and the relative sizes and proportions thereof, and also the specific detailsof construction may be varied to a considerable extent without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I I- claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
In a device of the character setforth, the combination of a frame including a pair of bars having vertically alined end sleeves and a tubular post j ournaled in said sleeves, means to prevent said post from being dis placed upwardly 'with res ect to the sleeves, a bracket adjustable vertlcally in'said post n 90 I pendently of the rotation of the bracket and and including a polygonal standard, a collar In testimony whereof I have signed my connected to the upper end of said post and name to this specification in the presence having a, polygonal hole in which said standof two subscribing witnesses.
ard is operative, the said collar prevent- LOUIS'C. FOX.
1 ing downward displacement of said post, Witnesses:
and means cooperating with said collarv to LEE M. FLESH, control the rotation of said post, D. WESSELS.
