To all whom 25 may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE DoNGns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

vr1`his invent-ion relates to that class of ironing tables Vwherein an ironing-board and a table top are provided and constructed and related to each other so that they may be adjusted to conceal the ironing-board beneath the table top and to expose the ironing-board above the table top for use;

rlhe object of my invention is to provide an ironing-table of novel, simple and etlicient construction, having provision whereby an ironing-board may be properly supported and readily raised from its concealed position when that portion of the table top covering the ironing-board is removed, whereby the ironing-board may be maintained in the raised position and whereby the ironing-board may be readily lowered.

A further object of the invention is to construct the ironing-board in two parts hinged together and to provide an adjustable brace to permit one end of the board to be folded down against one end portion of the table frame when the board is not in use and to support the hinged end of the board when in use.

The invention consists in the novel combinations of parts which will be hereinafter pointed out in the claims after being described in the specification.

1n the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention: Figure 1, is a side elevation of my improved ironing table, showing the ironing-board in position for use. Fig. 2, is a transverse section, on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is an end view of the ironingtable, showing the ironing-board out of use and concealed beneath the table top. Fig. 4, is a plan View of the ironing-table with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5, is a plan view of the ironing-table with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, the table frame comprises the supporting legs 3, the longitudinal bars 4 and the transverse bars 5, the ends of the bars 4 and 5 being secured to the legs 3.

Mounted on the table frame is the table top comprising a part 6 secured to the table frame and a part 7 hinged at 8 to the part 6 and movable on the hinge 8 from the position shown in Fig. 3 to the position shown in Fig. 2 and back again.

The ironing-board 9 is concealed 'beneath the part 7 of the table top when the part 7 is in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4; and the ironing-board 9 comprises a body7 portion 10 and an end portion 11 hinged at 12 to the body portion 10. The end of the body portion 10 adjacent the hinge 12 is mounted on and secured to the upper ends of two vertical bars 13, leaving the other end of the body portion 10 free to be surrounded by skirts, shirts and the like while being ironed upon the board 9.

rlhe bars 13 are dove-tail shape in cross sectionvand are slidably fitted to two similarly vshaped guideways 14 formed between the bars 15 of two pairs of bars, as shown. The bars 15 of one pair are secured to one of the end bars 5 of the table frame, and the bars 15 of the other pair are secured to a Atransverse bar 16 which extends between one bar 4 of the table frame and another longitudinal bar 17 extending between and secured to the transverse bars 5. The lower portions of the bars 13 are connected by a horizontal'brace -bar 18.

From the construction just described it will be seen that the ironing-board may be readily raised and lowered. Nhen the board 9 is in the down position it rests in depressions in the end bars 5 of the table frameto permit the part 7 of the table top to be moved to the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4 providing a table with an uninterrupted top for ordinary kitchen use.

In order to raise and lower the ironingboard 9, when the part 7 is in the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, I provide the following: Extending between and mounted to turn in one of the bars 4 and the bar 17 is a horizontal shaft 19 the outer end of which is provided with a projecting arm 20 by means of which the shaft may be turned by hand. Secured to the shaft 19 is the hub or collar 21 of a cam arm 22. The cam arm 22 is adapted to act against the bottom of the ironing-board 9 and it is provided with a curved body portion and a flat end portion 23, as shown. r1`he curvature of the cam arm 22 is such that when the arm 20 is moved from the position shown in Fig. 4 to the position shown in Fig. 5, the ironing- Ythe table frame.

board will be raised to the position shown in Figs. l, 2 and 5, and that when the arm 20 is moved back` to the position shown in Fig. 4, the board 9 will be lowered to the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4. By providing two bars 13 and locating the cam arm y22 between the bars 1 3 and between the guideways 14 therefor I am enabledto raise and lower the ironingboard with ease. When the roningeboard is in the raised 'position, it rests upon the fiat end portion 23 of the cam arm 22 and thecam arm 22 rests against the adjacent bar 413 which supports the ironing-board. The flat' portion 23 prevents liability of the earn arm 22 being accidentally turned, and the flat portion 23 is slightly past the center of the shaft 19 toward the bar 13 against which the 'cam arm 22 rests when the ironing-board is in the raised position, so that any downward pressure upon the ironingboard will tend to force the earn ann 22 more firmly against the 'bar 13 and prevent the accident-a1 lowering. of the ironing-board when in use.

When the ironing-board is' in the raised position for use, the hinged 'end portion 1l thereof is in the horizontal position shown in Figs. l and 5 and it is maintained in such position yby a brace rod 24 inclined from the end portion 1l .to one of the bars 5 of The lower, inner end of the brace 24- is inserted into an opening 25 in the bar 5, and the upper, outer end of the brace extends through and 'is slida'bly ttod lto 'a head 26 'which 'is swiveled on the bottom of the end portion 11. Prior to the lower. ing of the roningboard, the brace 24 is disengaged from the opening 25 ,t and when the ironing-board is lowered, the end portion 11 thereof is moved on the ifi-inge 12 down to theposition shown in Figs.- 3 and 4 adjacent the end bar 5 of the table frame, and the brace 24 is adjusted into the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4 with one end of the brace re'sting in an eye 27 projecting from the adjacent bar 5 of the table frame. The adjustment, of the brace 24, as just described is permitted by the turning of the swiveled head 26l and by the sliding of the end of the brace within the head 26. When the ironing-board is again raised, the brace 24 is 'adjiisted back to the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5 to support the hinged end portion 1l of the board.

I claimt l. In an ironing table, the combination of a table frame, a vertically-movable ironingy board, means on said frame for supporting and guiding said board, a shaft journaled on said frame, an operating arm onl said shaft, and a cam carried by said shaft and :having a curved portion adapted to raise said board and a flat portion adapted to maintain said board in the raised position.
