Specification of Letters I 'atent.
Patented Jan. 20, 1914.
Application filed September 3, 1912.. Serial No. 718,295.
Be it known that I, PAUL Anr'r, a subject of. the Emperor of Germany, residing at have invented certain Improvements in Toy Building-Blocks, of which the following is a specification. I
The present invention relates to a toy building-block and consists in the provision of a block having at one side a groove and at the opposite side a tongue of such a crosssection as to enable the tongue of one block ,form complete rigid buildings,
to interlock with the groove of another. Tongues blocks at right angles. By this arrangement the blocks can be assembled so as to including external walls and partitions, as well as bridges and other structures of suitable form, architecture and ornamentation.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated, Figure 1 'representing a cross-section of the block, Fig. 2, a plan of the same, and Fig. 3,'a longitudinal section.
terial and of any desired size and color. It may have either a rectangular, cubic, cylindrical or arched form and is adapted to be interlocked with other blocks by means of T-sect-ioned or dovetailed grooves and tongues. If the blocks are rectangular, as shown in the figures, one side is fitted with a tongue 2and the other with a corresponding groove 1.
For the purpose of connecting blocks at right angles, the tongues and grooves may be interrupted in various places. The block shown in Figs. 2 and 3 for instance, is
groove 1 is so as to interlock at three and grooves may be interrupted insuitable places so as to admit of connecting a T-sectioned groove, the tongue of The block is made of any suitable ma-.
adapted for building an angular wall, incisions 4 and 5 being for that purpose made in the tongue 2 so as to form a T-sectioned stud 6 at the end of the block. To this stud another block may be connected at right angles as shown dotted in Fig. 3. The also interrupted or closed at 3 sides with the stud 6 of another block also arranged at right angles. Between the blocks thus connected, ordinary blocks, with continuous tongues and grooves, are inserted so as to complete the wall which will then form a perfectly rigid structure. Arches, as well as cylindrical pieces for forming columns, are provided on the abuttingsides or ends with similar tongues or grooves so as to allow of being interlocked with the other blocks.
The interlocking elements may be of dovetailed section instead of the T-section' as shown.
I claim A toy building-block having at one side a T-sectioned tongue and at theopposite side one block being adapted to interlock with the groove of another block, the tongue being recessed near the end of the block to form a T-sectioned stud adapted to hold another block at right angles, the groove at the same end being closed so as to interlock at three sides with the stud of another block also placed at right angles, substantially as and for the purpose set-forth. p PAUL ANFT.
