To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J AMES A. HEALEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wakefield, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Game Apparatus, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.

This application relates to game apparatus and particularly to game apparatus of that type wherein one or more articles are adapted to be propelled, projected or cast toward or into sockets or receptacles.

In order that the principle of the invention may be readily understood, I shall describe a single embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a plan View of the board or base forming a part of the game apparatus and of one of the devices adapted to be pro; pelled or projected toward the receiving sockets or portions thereof; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of said board or base; Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one form of propelling or projecting implement or device which may be used in playing the same; and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one form of connected units preferably used in practising the game.

Referring more particularly to the draw ing, I have in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 represented one form of base or board preferably used in playing the game. The said base or board may be of any suitable shape, but is preferably of elongated rectangular form. I have herein represented it as composed of a bottom 1 which may be of wood, paper fiber or any other suitable material. It is, however, preferably perfectly smooth, so that the devices orv units employed in playing the game may be rolled therealong. The bottom 1 is provided with surrounding walls 22, 3-3 preferably of wood suitably secured at the corners and preferably longitudinally grooved for the reception of the edges of the bottom 1. At or adjacent the end the more remote from the player I provide a number of receptacles or sockets 4, 5 and 6. These may be formed in any suitable manner, but preferably the bottom 1 is recessed at this point and is there provided with a cloth or felt layer 7 having therein the said sockets. The material beneath the felt may also be socketed if desired. Preferably the said sockets or receptacles are arranged in rows or series, the value thereof being indicated by figures painted or otherwise formed upon the cloth, felt or other layers 7. The said sockets are, in the preferred embodiment of the game, so spaced apart as to receive the peculiarly constructed connected units which are propelled or projected toward the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. Preferably I provide a guardrail 8 at the more remote or head end of the board, and if desired a cross member 9 at the nearer or foot end of the board. In playing the game, it is preferred to maintain the base of the board at an inclination. For that purpose I preferably provide a hinged bail or wire 10 which, when the game is packed for storage or shipment, may be fitted flat against the under side of the base. Each member to be propelled, projected or cast simultaneously into a plurality of receptacles or sockets is composed of a plurality of connected units, one form whereof is represented in Figs. 1 and 5. I have therein shown the said member as consisting of two substantially spherical pieces or rolls 11, 12 spaced apart and connected by a bar or rigid member 13, the length of said bar 13 being substantially equal to the distance apart of adjacent sockets in any one of the rows or sockets 4, 5 and 6. Within the scope of my invention, the units 11, 12 may be of any other shape than spherical and they may be connected otherwise than as shown, as for example by a flexible piece.

such a point and in such a manner and with just sufficient force that the connected units will be rolled evenly along the base 1, so as to enter neighboring sockets. Within the scope of my invention any suitable arrangement of the sockets may be made and if desired the sockets of adjacent rows or series 1 may be spaced a proper distance to permit two connected units simultaneously to'enter sockets thereof. Preferably, however, the spacing of the sockets is such that the connected units or devices must be propelled evenly along the bottom 1 and into the said sockets.

If desired and within the scope of the invention I may employ a plurality of sizes or lengths of the united units adapted respectively to fit sets of receptacles or sockets spaced apart distances corresponding to said different sizes or lengths. For example, by providing units 11, 12 connected together by different lengths of uniting bars 13, each set of united units will vbe adapted for reception only in those sockets spaced a corresponding distance apart.

Having thus described one illustrative em-' bodiment of my invention, I desire it to be understood that although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and having a plurality of sockets or receptacles,

A game apparatus consisting of a base having a plurality of receptacles or sockets, a pair of rigidly connected rolling units adapted to be propelled thereinto, and a propelling implement for striking a propelling blow to said connected units, said rolling units being spaced apart a distance equal to that existing btween certain of said receptacles or sockets.
