Description

J 0 H N E D 0 N A L D S 0 N Improvement in Moldi nnnnnnnnnn No. 114,779.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN E.'DONALDSON, OF MONTEZUMA, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLDING-PLANES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 114,779, dated May 16, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that 1, JOHN E. DONALDSON, of Montezuma, in the county of Parke, and in the State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Serpentine-lllolding Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The nature of the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and use of the de vice hereinafter described, said device to be made of wood and steel or any other suitable materials.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my said invention, I proceed to describe it more particularly, as follows, viz
Figure l is a view of said device; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of same.
h is a slide, fastened by the set-screw i, like that used in an ordinary carpenters gage. a b is the cylindrical body of the tool, which is thickest at a, as represented. d is a doubleedged knife of the shape represented, conforming to the curve at e, fastened at one end by the screw (1, and held in its place at the other end by the slide h. 0 is the throat of the tool, through which the shavings pass.
The device is so arranged that either edge of the knife will cut, as may be desired.
To use my said device the edge of the table or other article to be molded must first be dressed square to the shape desired 5 then, setting the slide h in proper position, which is governed by the thickness of the table or other article, the operator uses the tool like an ordinary spoke-shave. It will out either way, as the grain of the wood may seem to require, care being taken to keep the slide It always on the same side of the table or other article.
The curve at (2 may be made the shape of any molding desired, the knife being made to correspond thereto.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The serpentine plane herein described, when constructed, arranged, and used substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as mine I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of February, 1871.
JOHA E. DONALDSON.
