SAMUEL S. GAY, OF SEDRO WQOLLEY, WASHINGTON.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Application /led 'February 16, 1915. Serial No. 8,559.
To all whom it may concern: A
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. GAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedro Woolley, in the county of Skagit andl State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic I nsoles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it `appertains to make and use the same. 1
This invention relates to pneumatic insoles for boots and shoes, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide an inflatable pneumatic insole which will render walking easy, which will absorb shocks and jars in ascending and descending stairs, and which will prevent the formation of corns or callouses on the feet of persons requiring to stand a great portion of the time. .I
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a plan view of a pneumatic inner sole made in accordance with this invention and having certain portions broken away to illustrate the interior construction, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. I
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety a pneumatic insole, made of rubber or other impervious material and provided with a partition 2 which separatesthe balliportion 3 from the arch portion 4 of the insole. A partition 5 separates the arch portion 4 from the heel cushion 6. In the partition 2 Ais a check valve'7,
while in the partition 5 is a check valve 8. An infiating tube 9 communicates with the arch cushion 4. When the insole is inflated check valves 7 and 8 will serve to maintain an equal pressure in the three sections of the insole. f
An insole made as described may be placed in any shoe of the proper size and the inflating nipple 9 may be .doubled underneath the insole entirely out of theway. f
The insole may be readily removed from the shoe whenever desired.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is A pneumatic insole comprising an inflat-l able cushion or sack conforming to the shape of the inside of the shoe and having a plurality of partitions therein forming separate compartments for the ball, the arch, and the heel of the foot, check valves in said partitions, and an inflating tube communicating with the shank portion of the insole.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL S. GAY.
