To all whom it may concern Beit known that we, CHARLIE J. HUNTER and EDDIE C. TWEEDY, citizens of the United States, residing at Concord, in the countyof Campbell and State of Virginia, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Soda-Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for dispensing carbonated or soda water and has for its primary object to provide a simple, inexpensive and portable device that is light, and may be readily carried from place to place and will operate in an extremely reliable and expeditious manner to dispense carbonated water so that soda water may be made.
Another object is to provide a device of the character described that consists of a receptacle in which is contained a tank to receive the carbonated water, a dispensing pipe being connected with and extending above the tank and a casing to cover the dispensing pipe being provided to cover the dispensing apparatus so that the device is protected and may be carried from place to place as would a suit case, said casing being provided with a handle.
Another object of importance is to provide a device of the character described that is of an extremely simple construction, is reliable and efficient in operation and inexpensive to manufacture.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out as claimed.
With reference to the drawings, wherein we have illustrated the preferred embodiment of our invention as it is, reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through our improved device showing the same as it would appear when in assembled position with the cover casing thereon, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken transversely on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates as an entirety a preferably metallic and rectangular tank receiving receptacle that is open along its upper side and provided with a removal cover plate 2 that is formed With depending flanges 3 on its end edges which are interposed between the end walls of the receptacle 1 and of a cylindrical tank 1 mounted within said receptacle. This cover or top plate 2 is provided with glass holding racks 5 secured upon the upper face thereof ad acent to one end in which glasses containing various syrups are to be placed. A drain pan 6 is mounted at the other end of the plate 2 and has communicating therewith a downwardly extending drain pipe 7 which extends through one end wall of the receptacle 1 and be drained upon the ground or into a receptacle, not shown.
A vertical dispensing pipe 8 is inserted through the central part of the top or cover plate 2 and through the tank a so that its lower end is disposed adjacent the lower part of the tank. The upper end of the pipe 8 is curved outwardly and downwardly as at 9 and provided with a nozzle 10 at its outer end, said nozzle being arranged to 8186i, a fine spray of the carbonated Water which is to be contained within the tank. A stop valve 11 is arranged within the vertical part of the pipe 8 that is disposed exteriorly of the tank and receptacle so that it is readily accessible to the operator. The nozzle 10 is so arranged that a glass as shown in Fig. 1 may be placed within the pan 6 to receive the carbonated water to be dispensed with.
We provide an inlet charging pipe 12 that is inserted through one end wall of the receptacle 1 and communicates with one end of the tank 4. A valve 13 is provided intermediate the ends of the pipe 12. p The pipe 12 is designed to be connected after a manner, not shown, with a source of carbonated water supply so that the tank at may be readily charged.
\Ve provide a rectangular cover casing designated 14 as an entirety that is provided at its upper end which is closed and on the outer face thereof with a handle 15, somewhat s'imilar to those found usually on suit cases and Satchels. On the end wall adjacent to the open end of the casing 14 are mounted spring fasteners 16 that are designed to cooperate with buttons 17 carried on the end walls of the receptacle 1. The fastening elements 16 and 17 are arranged on the outer faces of the walls and in such manner that the cover casing 14 may be secured with. the edges of the walls at the open end thereof resting on the edges of the walls at the open end of the receptacle 1 and in such manner that the dispensing pipe 8 and cooperate parts are entirely incased and 1n'otected. It will be readily seen that the device ma v be easily carried from place to place.
Tn practice, we have found that the form of our invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with'the adoption of our device will necessarily vary, we desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, propor tion and arrangement of parts may be re sorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of our invention, as set forth.
What is claimed is:
1. A portable soda water fountain includ ing a receptacle having its upper side open, a tank mounted within the receptacle and to contain carbonated water, a pipe communieating with one end of the tank and extending through one wall of the receptacle, a valve intermediate the ends of said pipe, a dispensing pipe communicating with the tank, a valve intermediate the ends of said pipe and exteriorly of the receptacle, a cover plate for the receptacle, having depending end flanges to extend between the tank and the receptacle, a drain pan mounted on the cover plate and arranged beneath the dispensing end of said pipe, and a drain pipe connnunicating with the drain pan and extending downwardly into the receptacle and through one end wall thereof.
2. A portable soda water fountain comprising a receptacle having one side open, a tank mounted within the receptacle to contain carbonated water, a pipe communicating with the tank at one end and extending through one wall of the receptacle, a valve intermediate the ends of said pipe, a dispensing pipe communicating with the receptacle and extending upwardly therefrom and having its upper end curved outwardly and downwardly, a removable cover plate for the open side of said receptacle to rest upon the tank, means to support a number of glasses mounted on the upper face of the cover plate, a drain pan mounted on the cover plate beneath the dispensing end of the dispensing pipe, and a drain pipe communicating with the drain pan.
