The lowermost article of the stack is held by a rubber diaphragm ill which has a central opening 28 therein through which the lowermost article of the stool: can be tumourally removed. This diaphragm has alliitcd thereto, a metallic binding 22) which holds the outer edge of the diaphragm against contraction, so that the central portion of the diaphragm will suilicionlly rzspzun sion to inherently hold the article being desirable to use a diaphragm of soft rubber so that articles such as ice cream cones will not be disintegrated when forced through the diaphragm. This metallic binding for the rubber consists of two rings 30 and 31. Ring 31 is held against one face of the diaphragm by a flange 33 on ring 30 which is tightly spun or pressed around the edge of and against the outer face of ring 31 so that the outer margin of the diaphragm will be securely held. between these rings and so that they will form a. substantially rigid metallic binding for the diaphragm, which. is rigidly secured thereto, and removable only with the diaphragm. The diaphragm and its binding l'orm a holder for the articles.
The nuts 21 on the two rear rods 20 are provided with grooves which are adapted to receive the edge of the metallic bindingof the diaphragm and support the rear portion of: the holder. The front of the holder is supported by a nut 36 on the lower end of the front rod 20. To facilitate placement of the holder in operative position, the margin of its binding is provided with a notch 37, which is adapted to clear the nut 36 that the diaphragm may be tilted to put its rear portion into grooves of nuts 2]. when the notch 37 is alined with, and below nut 36, and then the front of the holder may be raised into horizontal position. Then rotation of the holder will cause its binding at the front of the diap ragm to rest upon nut 36. If desired, the nut 36-may then be tightened to clamp the holder against the nut 21 o'n-the front rod 20. Obviously, by reverse manipulation the holder may be quickly removed through. the door 14.
It will thus be seen that the invention exd with a removable article holder to marginal retaining means or rings in lieu of being held in place by a retaining ring which must be removed from the receptacle beiore the diaphragm 'Wlll be released. for
separate removal and requires the rubber dia i iihragm to be separately handled in placing it into or out of operative position. Furthermore, by employing a binding consisting of rings which may be pressed or spun into position to secure the margin 01' the diaphragm therebetu'cen, the device may be produced at a low cost. By employing a retatable binding ring fixed to the diaphragm, simple retaining means may be used therefor and it is not necessary to manipulate any nuts or retaining devices at the rear of the case.
The invention is not to be understood restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus desori bed the invention, what I claim as new and 'lesire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. in dispensing apparatus for articles, the combination of an article holding device comprising inelastic diaphragm having an. ripening therein through which the articles can be removed. and a 'uwtallio binding ring allixed to and extending completely around the margin of the diaphragm and a support by which the ring is removal dy sustained, the entire holding device being rcznmablc as a unit from the support.

Dispensing apparatus comprising the combination of an elastic diaphragm liar-- ing ahole therein. and for reinovahly holdin, the articles and a metallic binding for the margin of the diaphragm consisting of two'rings on opposite sides of the margin of the diaphragm, the rings having an intcrtitting groove and rib means fixedly securing the rings together with'the diaphragm therebetween.

9. Dispensing apparatus comprising the combination of a case, an elastic diaphragm for holding the articles, having an opening therein through which the articles may be withdrawn a metallic binding secured to the diaphragm, and means for rotatably sustaining the binding, the latter having a notch therein to facilitate placement on the supporting means.
10. Dispensing combination of a case. an elastic diaphragm for holding the articles and having an opening therein through which the articles may he witiulrawn, a metallic binding secured to the diaphragnn and means in thecase for removably sustaining the binding, the binding and diaphragm being removable from the case without displacing the binding supporting-means.
