To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAURICE Gnnnnnnno, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Take-Up Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a take-up device for window shades, among other uses there for, and in its use in connection with a window shade, preventing'in elevating the shade the drawing cord thereof wrapping around the shade roller or in the drawing of the shade in a downward direction of the parting of the upper end of the shade from the roller thereof; and in such connection my present invention relates to the take-up device to maintain in such use the guide-wires along which the shade is moved up and down in a taut condition for reliable working of the shade and Without creating in the handling ragged edges of the same.

The nature and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1, is a vertical central sectional view through a take-up device embodying the features of my invention, showing the detail arrangement of said device; and Fig. 2, is a front elevational view of a window frame and shade with its guide-wires, showing one application of the said take-up device thereto.

of a channeled nut 6 having a threaded interior surface and also having an eye o in the rear flanged wall 6 and into which the end of the wire (Z is seated and said nut arranged to take up slack in said wire by the turning of the nut on the shank or spindle a The shank or spindle (1 is provided with a base-plate 6 secured to the windowframe a, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The spindle 6*, also is provided with a jam-nut e, to tighten the channeled nut 6 when a guide-wire passing through a loop 6 of the bottom-strip of the shade 7), is brought into a taut condition with said channeled nut 0 to maintain the same in such a condition as to permit of the shifting of the shade in up and down directions without creating ragged edges of the shade or parting of the same at the upper end from the roller (1.

The foregoing explained arrangen'ient of a window shade thereby insures uniform action without the necessity of special care in the handling of the same as it matters not how carelessly the shade may be handled, it cannot become ragged along its edges or can the upper end of the shade part from its roller so long as the guide-wires on both sides of the shade are maintained in a taut condition by means of the take-up device of my said invention.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A take-up device, consisting of a baseplate having a threaded shank, a channelednut threaded to the shank and having an eye in the rear flanged wall and into which the end of a wire is seated, said nut arranged to take-up slack in the wire by the turning of the channeled-nut on said shank and a lock-nut fitted to said shank and adapted to frictionally bear against the front wall of said channeled-nut to prevent slackening of said wire.
