  • This invention relates to improvements in a fastening device, and while the embodiment selected to illustrate its principles shows its special application as a glove, garment, or shoe fastening, 1t 1s especially applicable in any use where a separable fastener is desirable. With slight modification it can be used as a means for securing curtains and the like to vehicle tops, and it is one of the primary objects of the invention to produce a separable fastener which will be practically universal in its application.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SYKES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eastening Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in a fastening device, and while the embodiment selected to illustrate its principles shows its special application as a glove, garment, or shoe fastening, 1t 1s especially applicable in any use where a separable fastener is desirable. With slight modification it can be used as a means for securing curtains and the like to vehicle tops, and it is one of the primary objects of the invention to produce a separable fastener which will be practically universal in its application.
Simplicity of construction, standardization and interchangeability of parts, facility of assemblage and use, and economy of manufacture, are other objects of the invention.
Some of the disadvantageous features of this class of fastening devices are the difiiculty of using them with fine fabric, on account of their liability to tear or pull loose from the goods: their tendency to come unfastened easily: and the difliculty of locking them owing to stiff and ill fitting parts. With the threaded arrangement of the parts of the present device, these difliculties are eliminated.
Other objects and advantages will in part be apparent, and in part be made clear in the description which follows.
A drawing illustrating the principles of the invention is appended hereto, the fol lowing views being shown Figure 1, is a sectional view of the device closed; Figs. 2, and 3, are'similar views of the component members in open position; Fig. 4, is a view in perspective of the parts of the device disassembled.
Referring specifically to the drawing, wherein like parts are designated by like characters herein, 1, and 2, represent gen *erally, two components of a fastening devic'e.---The component 1 comprises preferably an extended base member 3, carrying centrally a threaded stem 4. The threads of this stem preferably terminate at a slight distance from the base, where there is formed a peripheral groove 5 to permit a snug fit for the material to be secured thereto, which 1s designated by the numeral 6. This forms one component. The other com onent comprises a collar having a flange portion 8, and a tubular ortion 9 here shown threaded externally an inwardly. Adapted to rest on the flanged portion 8, of the collar is an eyeletmember 10 adapted to be secured to material 11, to which the device is to be attached. When the eyelet carrying the material is placed on the flanged portion of the collar, a cap member 12 is secured to the outer portion of the tubular member inan suitable manner, but here illustrated as being threaded thereto. The attachment is made so as to permit freedom of movement between the eyelet member and the cap and flanged portion of the collar, while looking the cap and tubular portion of the collar so as to form an integral structure.
To assemble the parts it is merely necessary to place the stem 4 within the inter: nally threaded portion of the tubular member 9, and by turning the cap portion, the parts are securely threaded together. A reverse movement of the cap portion unlocks I the parts.
From the foregoing it will be ap arent that the device just described fulfils t e obects of my invention, but it will be understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise construction of this disclosure, as many changes in the arrangement may be made without departing from the principles of the invention, or sacrificing its chief advantages.
What I claim is 1. A fastenin device including in combi-'- nation a plurality of components; one of said components comprising a base member having a threaded stem and means associated with said base for securing it to an article to which the component is adapted to be attached; another of said components comprisin an internally threaded member having a ange on one end, and a removable cap-member disposed on its other end; and means for carrying material to which the latter component is adapted to be secured, rotatively mounted on said threaded member between said flange and cap member.
2. A fastening device including in combination a plurality of components; one of said components comprising a base memher having a threaded stem; a threaded member co-acting with said stem to secure material between said member and base; another of said components comprising an internally threaded collar having at one end a flanged portion; an eyelet member adapted to carry material to which the component is to be secured disposed on said flanged portion, and a cap member adapted to be secured to the end of said collar opposite said flanged portion.
3. A fastening device including in combination a plurality of components; one of said components comprising an extended base member having a threaded stem, and being provided between said threaded portion and said base with a peripheral groove; a threaded washer element disposed on said stem, and adapted to secure material between said washer and base; another component comprising an internally and externally threaded tubular collar provided at one end with an extended flanged portion coacting with said threaded stem when closed; an eyelet member adapted to carry material to which the latter component is adapted to be secured, disposed on said flanged portion; and a cap member adapted to be secured to the tubular collar and to inclose said eyelet member between said flange and cap.
