MoANUUrLci'tizens of'the United States, residing, respectively, at La Fayette, inthe'county of Tippecanoe and Stateof Indiana, and Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Receptacle Holders and Clamps,of which the following is a specification.

Itis the 'objectofour in-ventionto provide a cheap, convenient, and inexpensive'lnean's for attaching bowls and plates having outwardly inclined bases to the lapboards of childrens chairs, or to tables, so that they may not be thrown down or upset, and the food contained therein spilled.-

The accompanying drawings illustrate our invention.

Figure 1 is an under view of a receptacle holder and clamp embodying our invention; Fig. 2 shows such holder and clamp in operative position to hold a suitable bowl in place on a table or lapboard; Fig. 8 shows a modified form of holder and clamp, in unclamped position but in proper place relative to the bowl and table top, the bowl being shown in section; and Fig. 4 is an elevation showing the holder and clamp of Fig. 8 clamping the bowl to a table top.

The bowl or other receptacle A is provided with an outwardly flanged base thus forming a neck between the base and the body of the bowl. It is to clamp such a bowl as this to the table top or lapboard B that our invention is designed. The holder and clamp C, conveniently made of flexible wire, has an arc-shaped portion 0 of a proper size and shape to fit in the neck between the base and body of the bowl A, and to extend nearly around such neck. At the ends of the arc-shaped portion 0 the wires turn outward and dip downward to form a foot 0 to rest on the supporting board B, and beyond these foot portions are curved at 0 to extend under the board B, the two ends of the part 0 under the board B being connected by a cross connecting part a. On this cross connecting part c is pivotally mounted a clamping lever D, preferably made of wire wrapped around the part 0 and having its middle part looped to form an operating handle and its two ends made eccentric.

In operation, the holder is sprung over the flanged base of the bowl A into the neckbetwe'en such base'and-the bowl'body,

and the bowl and holder are put'in place downward. By pressingthis loop'or handle upward to the position shown in Fig. '2, the eccentrlc ends of the part'D bear upward against "the under sideof the board 13 and i-p're'ss the lower ends of the parts 0 down-' ward to clamp the bowl A firmly to the top of the lapboard or table top B. To release the bowl it is only necessary to push downward on the loop or handle of the part D.

In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4:, the foot portions 0 are omitted, and'the lower ends of the parts 0 are projected farther under the edge of the board B. In this form the fulcrum about which the device operates is the edge of the bowl A, instead of being the foot 0 as in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

We claim as our invention:

1. A clamp for holding a receptacle upon a support, comprising a continuous integral loop member adapted to extend around a portion of the receptacle, the ends of the loop member terminating in arcuate arms lying in a plane substantially at right angles to the first mentioned member and adapted to extend beneath the receptacle support and under the loop member, a cross-piece connecting the ends of said arms, and a camlever mounted upon said cross-piece and adapted to be rotated to engage the underside of the receptacle support and clamp the receptacle thereto. I

2. A clamp for holding a receptacle with a flanged base upon a support, comprising a flexible continuous integral loop member adapted to extend around said receptacle,

the ends of said loop member terminating in arms arranged in planes substantially at right angles to the first mentioned member and extending beneath the loop member, said arms being each provided with an ofiset integral foot portion adapted to engage the top surface of the support, and a cam lever fulcrumed upon the lower terminals of said arms and adapted to be rotated to clamp the receptacles to the support.

3. In a dish-holding device, an attachment adapted to be secured to a dish having of the table on which the dish may rest, and a clamp pivotally connected with the said inwardly extending parts of the attachment and arranged to bear against the nndersurface of the table top, the connection between the said attachment and the table-engaging parts of the clampbeing resilient.

4. In a dish-holding device, a band arranged to encircle the dish having legs that extend downward across the edge of the top of the table on which the dish may rest, and thence inward below the table top, and a resilient clamp pivoted to the inner ends of the said legs and arranged to be moved either into engagement with the under surface of the table top to secure the device or away therefrom to release it.
